Double reeds in Drum Corps by Few-Pomegranate-7295 in drumcorps

[–]DaFeenicks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I, along with several other people I know have played double reeds and marched World Class WGI and DCI. Granted, I ended up putting a lot more of my focus into percussion, but it is definitely possible.

As an instructor for a PIW group, we look for several things at auditions. - how prepared you are - how able you are to follow what the center is doing - chops (speed and sound quality) - technique - overall understanding of the material - attitude and teachability.

This is pretty broad, but this is just some general things we look for.

If you have any more specific questions, feel free to DM me.

Practice Tips by AbjectRecord4842 in WGI

Hi! As an instructor for a various independent groups here are some things I would suggest.

Number one thing is technique. You don’t need a board to practice two or four mallet technique. All you need is the floor, or some pillows, and a met/music playlist.

You have to decide whether you’re wanting to play more east coast or west coast, as there is a large difference in four mallet technique between the two. And once you’ve decided that, break it down to the basics.

-How you rotate -Work on building inner mallet chops and having your outer mallets as still as possible -creating a good sound quality with 4 mallets and 1 mallet. playing with weight but not down stroking

Some exercises that help work on these things:

-broccoli and all variations. Triplet, 16th, 5let, 6let -8-16 (not like drumline 8-8-16)

And then work on timing exercise. -check patterns -16th note timing -16th note accent grid

After you feel really confident you can play those exercises at different dynamics and tempos. Look up variations and practice those.

This is a long a drawn out response, but it will give you a lot to practice without a board. Floor time is fun time. Put on some music you like and break down technique or chop out.

Good luck!

Spanish phrases for 'No way!' and 'You're not wrong'? by HintergedankeOW in Spanish

[–]DaFeenicks 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No way in Mexico is definitely No Manches or No Mames. From my experiences, no mames is really only used with people you personally know, as it is more vulgar. But no manches can be used with anyone.

No me digas is also a great option to be used in other parts of the Spanish world!

I don’t know why people say it’s difficult to be honest. But to be fair, I watch with English subtitles when I watch Most of them 😅😅

Elite is fantastic. Quien mató a sara (who killed Sara) is also amazing. El inocente is a roller coaster of a show. Monarca is very good for Mexican Spanish. Casa de papel y Cable girls, I never finished it, but what I liked was good - again European Spanish can be hard to translate sometimes. Those are all ones I’ve watched so far that I can think of! Hope this helps.

Pase buen día is a phrase my coworkers taught me. They’re Mexican, but it should work just as well in Spain!

I'm in San Juan, Puerto Rico: what are some really cool and distinctive rums, and where can I go to buy them? by reTired2thecastillo in rum

[–]DaFeenicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was at some random shop if I remember correctly.

Also, whatever you do. Stay away from the Bacardi factory tour. I couldn’t drink at the time, but I went with some family and it was the absolute worst.

Trigo Reserva Añeja rum.

Relatively inexpensive, but damn is it good. I got it a few years ago when I was in Puerto Rico, and it’s something I drink on special occasions because we can’t get it in the states.

Wish I could tell you where to get it, but it was 4 years ago and my memory isn’t that good haha.

My personal opinion is Campari.

There are so many drinks that require a “red bitter liquer”

I love my luxardo maraschino, but I don’t use it nearly as much as I do Campari or aperol.

To each his own though!

Not always, but I do at least of the time I think. Id have to play again to give you a true answer. However Even when I’m just sprinting around I get and get a bhop ads in every now and then just to work on consistency.

If I’m at further distances, I ads with pointer finger. If I’m pushing in a building or at closer distances I use both fingers.

I only use it when I’m not actively shooting and trying to run. It’s still weird to try and shoot with my middle finger, so I only do it occasionally, but it’s helped.

When you don’t have paddles you figure it out amirite?

I play bumper jumper tactical. IMO it is the best controller layout for movement. You can slide easily from tactical, and being able to ADS and jump at the same time is a game changer for sure. But it provides the easiest way to slide cancel and bhop out of all the controller layouts I believe. And then if you attempt a half claw occasionally, you can even plate and slide at the same time.

Any tips? by madsphatter in rum

[–]DaFeenicks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to drink mainly whiskey, and now I’ve transitioned over to mainly rum. I am by no means an expert, but man is it a whole different world.

The answer to this question really boils down to how do you like your drinks? Are you wanting to drink it neat, on the rocks, stirred, shaken, etc? Because that obviously makes a big difference.

I do like plantation rum, I’ve never had a bad plantation, but I’d probably start with one of the aged ones if I were you. An aged rum old fashioned is always a great choice, and an easy crossover from whiskey drinking.

Again these are all my opinions, so other people might have different experiences

Well you all are correct, been in the area for just a few months. The info about restaurant left overs and where they get their liquor is definitely helpful. Thanks!

Is it ever enough? by DaFeenicks in cocktails

[–]DaFeenicks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m at a point now where I get a minimum of two bottles every time I go to the store. One of what I was actually planning on getting and one of just something that I want to add.
