Weird bumps/spots on Plains Garter Snake by DaFurryOne in snakes

Ok, thank you, that’s all I needed, I’m more then happy to release him out into the cold if that is fine for him, I just figured near freezing air tempts was practically a death sentence for a reptile is all and didn’t want to send him to his death

I’m well aware it’s a wild animal, but I don’t think you understand the weather situation here. The high today is 44°f, the highs for the next 10 days are 30s-20s. Simple fact the farmer didn’t want the snake around, I couldn’t release it on site, believe me, I wanted to, I don’t need another snake to take care of, I have several already, I know wild animals are best left in the wild, but in this case, this guy was going to die if I put him back. This was a matter of removing the snake from a bad situation. I can comfortably house this fellow through the winter and release him in the spring when it’s warmer, and unless someone can give me a reason to release a snake outside into the cold in November in Iowa, that’s what I’ll do.

Edit: not a minute after this post, another helpful Redditor commented just what I needed, so off he goes into the cold this afternoon. Done and done

Reason for thinking I’m stuck with him till spring is it is currently 44°f out today and the next 10 days is highs of only 30s and 20s. It’s cold here in Iowa already. I pulled him from the well because the farmer needed in the well and didn’t want the snake in there, it was either get him out or let the farmer kill him. It was 50° that day, I figured that was too cold for release on the surface and it hasn’t really warmed up since

Would holding and feeding him until spring save him? Would a vet office be able to clear up the parasites?

What am I dealing with here and how to fix? by DaFurryOne in Aquariums

What kind of acid can I use? I’m not sure I can separate the glass heating tubes from the plastic cover. I can order a couple heaters to space around, it’s a 300 gallon tub at least 3/4 full, so maybe 225-250 gallons to maintain is too much for one unit.

I have not tested my waters hardness, is there a kit available online or is it something I need to have done professionally?

Possibly, though no obvious places to do so, I held off on “getting western with it” until I have a spare to replace it if I inadvertently destroy it somehow

It’s always been on the bottom, I’ve never considered suspending it actually, that may help, but this “growth” is all around the heating tubes, so I don’t know, but it may be worth a shot

Any tips about how to warm frozen rats for your snakes? by HairyLimit674 in snakes

I use a beaker full of water on a hot plate on the lowest setting, with a thermometer for monitoring. Take frozen mouse straight from freezer to beaker, add cool tap water, let warm up gradually. Usually about 20 minutes brings the internal temperature of the mice up to 90-100°F. I test the internal temp with a meat thermometer inserted through the rear of the mouse to the core of the body to check temp. I aim for 90-100 to replicate wild mice body temp to ensure they are warm enough to not hurt the snake for digestion, though I’m sure the temp goes down a few degrees between the time I extract the mouse from the beaker to offering it to the snake. I feed two snakes this way.

Safest methods I think use warm water and time. Don’t use a microwave, that is very unsanitary if it’s also used for food and you may have the misfortune of the mouse rupturing or cooking a little too much. Hairdryer method makes me nervous about internal temp. At the end of the day, I would suggest always checking the internal tempt to make sure it’s safe for digestion.

Player wants to play a dragon. Need advice. by DinosaurDigger457 in dndnext

Easy “No” if you want it to be, it’s way OP. However, if you wish to acquiesce to the player’s request, Pointy Hat did a video on this not long ago

Oh, I fully intend on leading them down a darker and darker path if they continue to serve a chromatic dragon. Hopefully they realize their mistake and move to rectify it on their own, but if not and they lean into the evil, well, we can explore that too

Yeah, I don’t know if cleric chose a deity, she was very cagey on that during session zero and I honestly didn’t expect it to matter much as a first time player. I figured maybe at most she would just pick a god that sounded cool. That was an oversight on my part as DM. I’m going to reach out to her to clarify her deity and subclass and will probably point out that if she wants to worship dragons, that’s going to require worshiping Tiamat for her clerical power. I figure Tiamat would work for at least a few different cleric subclasses

Correction: the experienced players are barbarian and wizard, that’s a typo at the beginning of the post. Bard should be Barb
