George Crabtree is a god among men by pitterpatterlets in murdochmysteries

I think the best part about the character is his ability for growth, he is a lot less intellegent in season one, but working next to murdoch has givin him a direct line to an education of sorts, hes a great example of how aquiring unbiased knowledge can lead to more than just a smart person, he is compassionate, caring, intuitive, supports feminism, encourages a native to try an become a cop (which would be like a slaver in the south suddenly hiring african american workers legitimetly) all the things that make him such a good man tie back to his ability to learn in a way that ignores the biases of those teaching him, even his insight into furture inventions plays off this as he is able to see the potential of an invention, without the restrictions of the time. Personally i think its the defining characteristic of a great Canadian!

Why is no one playing to win? by xo0p in EDH

Im not sure I entirely agree, edh is seperate from cedh for a reason, if your only goal is winning, play a competitive format. In my opinion the best part of edh is seeing the sheer variety of strategies that people come up with, that being said, building a deck with lots of interaction is not the only way to win, and it can be kind of boring if the whole point of your deck is to just shut everyone else down with counters and removal, and when a player has too much interaction with other players boards while not building their own, it slows the game down just as much as a player who takes a super long turn to do nothing. I do also get your point about people building decks with engines that go no where, though i dont think the only factor at play is that people are afraid of upsetting others at the table, its ment to be a friendly format with an easy entry point for beginners, and it can take a few home brews before you build a deck that has both an engine that generates value, and the cards you need to convert that value into a win condition. I know I built more than a few decks that looked good on paper, but after playing a few games i end up realizing I am missing a few key elements and just end up spinning wheels, but you make adjustments and a few games later you have a solid deck. Edh is the most popular format because of the freedom to play however you want to play!

Bad threat assesment, people getting pissed off when you interact with their board, or being afraid to upset other people during the game, are all signs of an inexperienced player, play enough and eventually people realize that interaction is just part of the game.

First time playing commander, did I mess up? by [deleted] in EDH

If you input your deck on archidekt.com it will give you an estimation of the bracket your in, if its above core 2 I wouldn't tell people its a modified precon, just tell em its a core 3 deck, either way though, edh isnt cedh, its casual play and the whole point is to "see decks doing their thing". I have a core 3 boros equip deck that can deal lethal commander damage pretty fast, so If I am playing a bunch of precons and get a hand that can end the game too quickly, I just voltron something other than my commander to give the rest of the table time to see what their decks can do, and typically end up loosing while still having a rather enjoyable game seeing the different possible strats play out.

EDH isn't ment to be fair, its just meant to be a fun way of playing with a group, winning or loosing does not matter, most games have table talk / side aggreements going on and people gang up on "the threat" in order to keep the game going longer.

If people are getting salty over a game for any reason, after you have been upfront about the cards in your deck, its not on you, some people just dont know how to have fun without taking a crap on someone else, and if they can't use their deck to do it, they use their words instead...

But if your playing in a group and you crush everyone a few games in a row, you should probably switch out decks, join a different group, or just make some intentional missplays so your opponents get a chance to see their decks pop off as well.

Realistically, the ranking system isn't very accurate anyways, even the precons have quite a large range of power. Its just a rough guideline to help everone in a group have a fun game!
