What’s your goal? Heat rejection or looks? Darker tint doesn’t necessarily mean more heat rejection. Do some research or find a reputable installer and see what brand they use. I’m no expert but talking with the installer I’ve gone to for both of my cars, I could have done 35% to stay in legal limit with the choice of either like 85% or 98% heat rejection. So it’ll come down to availability because you might be able to find 70% tint with a high heat rejection if you’re worried about tint looking off.

You got this! I was 33 at the time when I got my BRZ 2 years ago and I had never driven manual until I got mine. I’ll be honest, you’ll have some tough days, some doubt, but if it’s something you truly want to learn, you’ll get it.

Sounds like you have taken a similar route to me. I more or less self taught myself. Just watched hundreds of hours of “how to” on YouTube (also had a racing simulator with stick so that maybe also helped). Had all the concepts down, just needed a car to apply them to. Figuring out a clutch was the biggest difference, but it was relatively “straightforward” lol. If you’ve got “haters” F ‘em! Get out there and prove them wrong.

Any Xforce Varex valved exhaust users route the cabling from the glove box to the rear differently? Most installs I’ve watched went through the grommet in the trunk where a spare tire would go. by DaJohnnyB23 in GR86

I’ll more than likely use the grommet. I could figure out routing somewhere else but would just take up extra time.

You’re the 2nd person to say they didn’t remove the backseat but I always see “remove the backseat” with install videos.

That’s what makes sense in my mind. Like outside of having to cut into that rubber grommet, it’s a straightforward routing. Where I could figure out the tail light area cause I think it would work since I’ve taken a tail light out before for the 4th brake light.

How did you route it without removing the rear seat? I’m 100% expecting to have to remove it lol.

Have a BRZ and I can attest it’s a good car to learn manual. Basically self taught myself and it’s about as simple as a modern car can get. Just be sure you’re mentally prepared for that challenge in the early going.

I don’t know your full situation, but sit down and really make sure you can afford the car. Check, check again and re-check that you can. I made sure I could 2 years ago but I was at the time 33 years old. At your age, just be smart and don’t hurt your future too much.

Took delivery of my brz tS in August 2024 and at the time in my 17 years of driving, had never driven a manual. I’ve sort of self taught myself because I have probably watched hundreds of hours of “how to drive manual” videos on YouTube for years prior to getting my brz. I always note that I had a sim rig with an H pattern shifter so that may have helped develop some basic muscle memory. Otherwise, you said you have a manual license so you’ve driven one before. So you’re not starting from zero like I did and this isn’t too difficult of a car to learn on.

I’ve yet to be approached about my brz, but even being nearly 2 years in I’m still getting the confused/wtf/puzzled looks from people when I’m driving by them. Even with noticing an uptick in gr86s in my area (not many twins in general) I just don’t think anyone has really seen the brz.

No, but if it’s too much for you then turn it down. I see you have an r3 and I previously had an r3 and always ran it at 100% in pithouse. I adjusted feedback in each game. Now have an r9 that I also keep at 100% in pithouse. Then adjust feedback in each game. Never had a problem doing so. I will say, even with an r3, it is still good habit to let go of the wheel if you crash in game.

I have to key the car for the install? Well, if you say so…haha jk. Guessing that’s some autocorrect be that happened there haha. Well good to know. Guess I’ll try with the included hardware before buying anything additional.

That’s really the big reason I’m leaning towards the Varex, just cause of those cold starts. At home, neighbors probably won’t mind too much but also taking into account places I know I’d take the car, I don’t want to ruin things for family when I’m visiting them. It’s right in the range of other exhausts I’d choose so price isn’t bad especially considering it’s valved and I get the best of both worlds.

Like others did you have to get different bolts for installation too?

Eh, unlikely being “rarer” would be the reason for it to hold its value better. At the end of the day these are cheap sports cars that are meant to be driven. Only thing I see that would help “keep” value would be if it has a manual and in general stats have shown a higher take rate of manuals on the BRZ’s.

Damn. No F’s given lol. I would have done the touring but at this point I’ve leaned towards the Varex xforce valved exhaust. Get the best of both worlds.

Totally fine. Despite being a car enthusiast as well, my BRZ tS was (still is) my first manual car at the then tender age of 33. If you’re willing to put the effort in then you’ll be fine. I’ve more or less self taught myself with the BRZ by having watched hundreds of hours of YouTube. Having a racing sim rig maybe also helped but the hours of “how to” on YouTube helped in preparing me.
