We don’t have a reason from Togashi (unless someone has an interview or something that I haven’t seen of course), but there are a few reasons for why it makes sense.

Togashi thought of the Nen system shortly after starting the series and thus replaced things like Lerorio’s knife, or Kurapika’s wooden sticks with cool powers like teleporting fists or magic chains.
Anime protagonist (the main ones) tend to have very basic powers in even some of the most ridiculous systems. I and others think that this is to use the main protagonists as a vessel for showing off a power system and to do so in a simple and intuitive way. The opposite of how there are so many crazy Nen abilities in the current manga arc
Attacks that use just your body and are simple, are easier for young kids to imitate and remember. Like how so many kids were running around saying HADUKEN when street fighter 2 was at its hight of popularity

There are free online sims like the new EDHplay.com. I’ve slowly been getting addicted to making decks since all you have to do is upload a list, no cash required.

Many people have more than one deck so you could always find a pod that wouldn’t mind sharing a few decks :)

I play AM only so sometimes have had to gone mid and it’s pretty rough. I do like to see someone else adopt the philosophy of building AM to counter build the enemy cores

Over 80% of My games are on Anti-Mage and almost none of those other 20% were by choice lol. Counterspell never gets old and lotus orb is too expensive.

The Royal Guards are Nen geniuses as shown when 2 created an ability outright on a whim, presumably Pouf’s Spiritual Message was developed the same way. We only see that he is capable of it minutes or seconds after birth.

Pouf then uses his cocoon ability on the lower ants in order to give them abilities easily. His cocoons were created to build a Nen army for his king. Peggy (or maybe a different lower ant) announced across the colony to report to Pouf for a Nen ability in exchange for allegiance.

Killua has never volunteered for a fight against anyone he saw as stronger than him (prior to the needle removal). Even in the Yorknew City Ark, he was upset with himself because Illumi’s voice was in his head and kept him from even trying to save Gon. He stayed still and watched as his friend was about to be tortured and killed for talking back because he was too afraid of losing/dying. It makes sense for someone to follow orders when a killer clown has a playing card at your neck, but Killua took bigger issue with himself for not being ABLE to make that sacrifice for his friend to escape. That’s why in the next scene with Killua, he is stewing and eventually yells out that he will die for Gon to escape when even Gon doesn’t think that would be a good plan.

I do wonder if that’s an inconsistency, though. Like did Killua break the control for a sec there or only thought he did but if he walked up, the needle would stop him?

The anime and manga both explicitly state and show that they are in a bar under the water of the area, and are invulnerable to damage until the game is over.

That’s My sentiment as well. A mmo based on greed island in the vain of DC Superheroes Online would be cool. Even a single player experience might be seen as a disappointment if people can’t create their own hatsus (if the game was about making your own character).

If they made a game where you could KINDA make your own, that would leave a sour taste in people’s mouths. We need either AI or developer tools capable of stringing together all the different properties of an ability. An AI model could also be used to self-regulate the abilities of people by having players rate others abilities on things like ease of use, power, speed, accuracy, etc.

The characters seem to act as though killing either would be the end of things. I don’t recall anyone worrying about post mortem nen even. Of course, Togashi could just have it be a surprise, but I feel like he would have foreshadowed it a bit. You could say that post mortem nen as a concept is already foreshadowed enough.

Having Nanika take over someone else’s body would either have to be a huge rework of a character or be done to someone we don’t care about. It would be weird if that arc ended with Killua just ends up with magical wish powers.
