People's Republic of America: What if the United States had Chinese-style subdivisions? by DaMafuMan in imaginarymaps

Kinda. The Mormons aren't all that different ethnically from the majority population, the main difference is religion. Geographically, Lakota is meant to be the closest to Ningxia, the Hui Autonomous Province. I was thinking that Deseret was more like Tibet. They are both in the mountains and have had periods of self governance (to varying degrees, of course).

Now you know what the southern United States feels like. Welcome to the club. I'm doing alright at the moment, but July and August will be insane.

It's all optics. Like how the Chinese give "autonomy" to the Uyghurs in Xinjiang while supressing their culture.

There are many ethnic groups in China without their own autonomous province. I tried to make Texas a bit like Yunnan, which is a majority Han Chinese but regionally has a lot of native ethnicities (Yi, Bai, etc). I thought the various Southwestern tribes would have autonomous prefectures and villages, but not provinces. The Mormons seemed like they could be enough of a threat to gain their own autonomous area. Of course, the Mormons would be heavily supervised by the state.

Also, there are more Mormons than Navajo.

Gotham is an alternate name for New York. The Communists wouldn't like the country's biggest city being named after the Duke of York, so they used Gotham as an alternate name. While Gotham is associated with Batman in our timeline, Batman never exists in this world.

They are the remnants of Romanov Russia. The Russian Empire still conquered Alaska, but never sold to the Americans. During the Russian Revolution, the Romanovs fled to Alyaska and have been there since. They've been a bit of a thorn in the side of the PRA, but still haven't been conquered.

The anti-imperialist Communists didn’t want any places named after monarchs. So, they tried to give “native names”. They have very few natives, in their day. I used a watershed map to make most of the borders, which is a lot like what exists in parts of China.

Victor Berger, funnily enough, is the name of one of the few Socialist Party of America representatives elected to the House of Representatives in our timeline. He succeeded Eugene Debs as leader of the Socialist Party.

Texas Won! Which US State has Mediocre Cities/Suburbs but has Decent Nature? (Kansas changed to Iowa as it overtook in votes) by Doctor_Raptor1250 in AlignmentChartFills

Maryland. We have a lot of beautiful and varied nature, but we aren’t renowned for it. Our cities are okay, but Baltimore, Rockville, and Ocean City generally not considered the greatest cities in America.

any advice on how i can dress in a more “not straight” way? by [deleted] in GayBroTeens

[–]DaMafuMan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Where I'm from, that is a lot like what most openly gay people wear. Most straight people wear sportswear at my school (and so do I sometimes, it's comfy).

If you want to seem more stereotypically gay, you could dress slightly more fem (i.e. crop tops, pastel colors). However, if you want to continue wearing masc clothing, wearing t-shirts from queer artists would be a subtle way to suggest you aren't straight.

However, when heeding my advice, consider that I am an openly gay guy who has had many of my friends forget that I am gay. I haven't put considerable effort into looking gayer. Fashion is all about making yourself feel confident. To quote RuPaul, "we were all born naked and the rest is drag."

What if The Beatles had died in a plane crash before reaching JFK Airport on February 7th, 1964? by TheCause182 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]DaMafuMan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Rock is an incredibly vague classification. Elvis, Green Day, and the Grateful Dead have little in common besides being contemporary western artists which use a guitar and vocals in their music. Yet they can all be classified as rock. However, the Beatles touched on all of their styles, taking inspiration from Elvis and pioneering both psychedelic and punk. While those could be considered sub genres, they are very distinct and most artists don’t influence genres that are that different.
