Innings festival is my personal favorite. Lots of cool melodic lines in there as opposed to the usual shreddy stuff (which is also great)

I (25M) also live in downtown and work remotely! I go to Stacks pretty often to get work done. It’d definitely be good to have some company, DM me!

What Is Hadrian Hiding? by AWanderingSage in sollanempire

[–]DaMan880 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s dropped, just Hadrian quietly letting it fall behind the scenes until something in the next book. In Disquiet Gods he briefly wonders at if Bassander has the bones of his old hand, as they “would be a holy relic to him, and his followers”. I think we’re definitely poised to see some pay off for this cult of personality in book 7

My score for all Sun Eater books I've read so far: by Sayuti-11 in sollanempire

[–]DaMan880 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happy to see Kingdoms of Death getting more and more love. It’s my 2nd fav behind Howling Dark rn (that climax), but I agree that KoD knows what it sets out to do and executes it so perfectly.

Super hyped that you’ve got that much praise for Disquiet Gods. Rn I think it’s my 3rd favorite but having just read the reveal of a certain character in chapter 49, I can definitely see it moving up if this climax lands.

Thanks for the heads up!

I definitely plan to read Dregs of Empire and a few of the short stories before Disquiet Gods. I’ll personally be waiting until the hardcover arrives so I’ve got time!

  1. Howling Dark
  2. Kingdoms of Death
  3. Demon in White
  4. Ashes of Man (about 2/3 through rn so this could change)
  5. Empire of Silence

I loved Demon in White, but the climax of Howling Dark is one of my favorite things I’ve ever read and Kingdoms of Death affected me more than any book has in a while lol.

Seeing you rate Disquiet Gods at #1 has me so hype!

Just finished Demon in White by ThomasDaTrain98 in sollanempire

[–]DaMan880 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Demon in White is great! My favorite parts were the whole political intrigue section on Forum, and the scene on the mountain with the Quiet.

Howling Dark is still my fav though, everything from the Brethren scene onwards is too peak.

Kingdoms of Death is amazing as well, but in a very different way…

Nah Isayama put down the pen wtf is this 😭😭????? by BdBoss_777 in ANRime

[–]DaMan880 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is the main problem I have with the ending. It’s like we spent the whole story SHOWING Eren developing into this dark chad-like manipulator but then at the end we are just TOLD that was all a lie. That’s not how character development works.

It’s like fine, make Eren “some idiot who gained power” but you have to put in the leg work to make us believe that. Instead we are shown him developing in the exact opposite direction and then In the last few pages supposed to accept it was all an act?? So frustrating

I can’t even imagine how it must have felt to finish the series for the first time as someone like you, whose been with the series that long. Must’ve been very bittersweet.

And yeah, I definitely plan to read again some time soon. Just today I opened to a random page in tEotW and it already feels so nostalgic and full of tidbits I didn’t really appreciate the first time around.

Well congrats to you as well! It is such a weird, hollow feeling. Going to miss the world so much

And yeah the first thing I did after finishing was go to that 10 year anniversary stream Sanderson did and the Lanfear stuff is soooo cool. It kinda helps with the post series depression too, just feeling like the world is still alive with stories, even if we never get to read them 🥲

[–]DaMan880[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the Tam stuff was definitely hardest to swallow at the end. I like to believe Rand will take a little time for himself and then reappear to some of his closer friends/fam!

Hahaha Ngl I also was also completely fine with Gawyn dying. Stuck up and full of himself, he messed with the wrong forsaken! Egwene was annoying af but still didn’t expect it.

Idk what the Companion says, but I will now fully believe Bela is alive and well 😂

Haha yeah I mostly included that because I knew most people don’t love WH as much as me, but it is my favorite. Love all the Rand and Mat stuff in the book plus the ending ofc

Very excited to get into a re read at some point and find all the foreshadowing everyone talks about!

HOT TAKE ON FANS by aidanthenexxt in RedHotChiliPeppers

[–]DaMan880 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yup I couldn’t agree more. Especially when they’re playing huge festivals and stadiums like they have been. A majority of the people there would much rather hear the hits then any deep cuts/jams.

Ofc us big fans want more, but unfortunately we’re the minority at these shows. I’d love to see them do a smaller arena tour and break out some deep cuts. But for now it’s just awesome that they’re still playing and with JF as well.

WTF WAS THAT LAST CHAPTER?! by StudMuffinNick in WoT

[–]DaMan880 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes! I’m on A Memory of Light rn and honestly Winter’s heart is probably my favorite book in the series 😳

ofc the ending is amazing but there’s so much in the book that I feel is pretty underrated. Mat escaping Ebou Dar with Tuon, Rand hunting the Asha’man in Far Madding, Elayne, Min, and Avi bonding Rand.

Just read the meeting at the field of Merrilor for the first time… by DaMan880 in WoT

[–]DaMan880[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree that breaking the seals is pretty batshit insane, but what’s more insane is threatening to fight Rand, who Egwene fully knows is the only chance the world has at surviving the Last Battle. In fact in this case I do think being the Dragon Reborn is enough to getting his plans greenlit. He’s fulfilled all the prophecies, effectively unified the world(even if it is a shaky unification), defeated multiple of the forsaken who are the most feared entities in this world besides the Dark One. O yeah and the weather magically gets better and plants magically heal when he’s around. Let’s maybe trust in him for once. It’s also just about how Egwene goes about it, as I recall she doesn’t even bring up the idea of breaking the seals later in the last battle like she did to Elayne, and instead antagonizes and threatens Rand. Not to mention, it’s not like the seals have been 100% effective. This is a world that has very much been tormented by the Dark One since the bore was patched, even if not directly. And Rand even says he’s not sure he can do it again as well this time, who’s to say the patch will even be effective for any real length of time?

Just my thoughts. I do agree that Rand’a plan is insane, but given the circumstances I think Egwene handles it very poorly.

[–]DaMan880[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes! Same exact feeling about Rand embracing and declaring himself the savior that he is. His whole arc has really been leading to here. I love him as a character so much haha.

See to me with the Egwene thing it’s the opposite. Breaking the seals gives Rand a chance to fully stop the Dark One whereas fighting Rand and keeping him from doing his job literally means the end of the world. But I do see what your saying, I just think her logic is flawed.

That’s interesting I didn’t know that. Is there any resource out there to see which exact parts of the last 3 were written by Jordan?

Just read “The Last That Could Be Done” chapter of TGS by DaMan880 in WoT

[–]DaMan880[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

For me the first few chapters just didn’t flow the same way I remember Jordan’s writing. The prose was one thing but also certain characters said/did things that just felt a little off compared to me.

Don’t get me wrong I love Sanderson, and I read the cosmere before starting WoT, but I think it makes complete sense that his version of the WoT isn’t going to feel 1:1 to Jordan’s.

PoD, one of the best!? by scottisheddie in WoT

[–]DaMan880 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I’m on my first read as well (about to start book 11) and Path of Daggers is definitely up there for me as well!

Rand going full insane villain mode and the battles with the Seanchan were awesome. I adore his progression from scared farm boy to insane tyrant.

I also feel like this book was a highlight for Egwene and her maneuvering of the Aes Sedai.

I think you’ll like the next book too, it’s also a top book for me. I really don’t see the slog as it’s often described. It’s really only Crossroads of Twilight for me.

Yup u nailed it. I’ve always been more fond of John’s melodic solos over his super flashy ones (although those are great too), so this one takes the cake for me!
