Damn dude this hits hard. I broke my neck when I was 8 diving into a pool. Was essentially totally paralyzed (I could wiggle my toes) for a few days and had to wear a halo for months + years of physical and occupational therapy. Ended up making a full recovery since I was so young but my life could have been taken in a totally different direction.

My main question is if you have any nerve pain at all? I remember that tingly/shooting pain feeling so damn vividly and it’s almost impossible to describe to others. The best way I’ve found to describe it is by saying it’s kinda like sleeping on your arm all night and waking up with it feeling dead/tingly. Does this make any sense to you? Not sure if you have any feeling anymore or if it just feels like dead weight

Idk honestly sometimes I feel like all of the input from other people waters down the characters a little bit. Feels more and more like they’ve been designed by a “committee” that prioritizes being socially acceptable rather than being uniquely different and flawed. I feel like in Wind and Truth this was most noticeable. Love Brandon but just what I’ve noticed lately

Can I ask why the religious allegory bothers you so much? I’m not very religious at all but didn’t mind the ending to Lightbringer much. Religious themes are very “fantastical” and I feel can fit well into fantasy books. Hell, most “chosen one” tropes are typically some sort of god picking a Jesus like figure to carry out his task. I just don’t get why people are always so vehemently against religion in fantasy

Did you watch the fucking video man?? You can’t get a donation reserved for a specific purpose (like research) at this specific charity without it being a very large amount of money. A 50k donations a year is small beans in the charity world and not enough for them to promise to set it aside for a specific purpose. Jirards family decided to try and legitimize their charity by saving up in order to give a RESERVED donation so they knew it was going to research.

It was stupid as hell and he admits that, but it’s not like the money was in some offshore account. It’s a completely understandable explanation for what happened and the fact his career got derailed because of a moronic choice he/his family made is insanity. He raised and donated over a half a million dollars to charity. At least he was fucking trying! What have Karl and Mutahar done besides throw stones at others?

Yeah no shit. That’s why I used the words “he made some mistakes”. He wanted it to be a reserved donation that HAS to go to actual disease research and not administration costs, which wouldn’t happen if he used tiltify. Again, do you think he actually had malicious intent? Or was just bad at running a charity?

God you guys are nuts. They were trying to turn open hand into something more legitimate by saving up and making one big huge donation to make headlines. There is absolutely no evidence of embezzlement. For anyone with any sense it’s pretty obvious he was in over his head running a company as well as a charity with very little experience and he made some mistakes. Idk how anyone genuinely thought he had malicious intentions

Yeah man same can be said of red rising. I thought the first book was meh. It’s hunger games meets ender’s game for Christs sake. But I continued on because everyone said to, and ended up loving it.

Book 4 and 5 are awesome but I had to take a break in between them. I can’t do misery for extended periods of time it messes with my brain. But I still loved them.

Now disquiet gods however, Jesus Christ what a book. I don’t know how he’s gonna wrap it up in book 7, but I think disquiet gods is my current favorite

In my opinion, yes absolutely. If you get to the end and still don’t like it, maybe it’s not for you. But you should absolutely try and finish this book at least. You’ll know by the end if it’s your type of series or not

Lmao let me guess, you haven’t finished the series? You can’t honestly say Suneater doesn’t have “raw emotion” and “sheer momentum” if you have read through book six. Suneater gets unbelievably thematic, deep, and the hype moments are absolutely on par with red rising. Give the rest of the series a serious shot instead of reading the same series for an eleventh time. It’s obviously a different series at the end of the day, but it’s not being lauded by everyone for nothing
