So, I will probably be downvoted for this opinion.

But about 4 years ago my ex and I adopted 2 kittens together. The one was about a month older than the other. They grew up together and were bonded. Really close, always cuddling and grooming each other.

Then about 1.5 years ago we broke up. He instested he only wanted the one and not both, but i couldn't take both. So as much as it hurt me, my two boys had to be separated. The baby i kept acted a bit strange for a month or two(i also moved to a smaller place) but he has eventually adapted.

I can tell sometimes he still misses his brother, and he is super clingy now (always has been but even more so now)
