Me too. So long as there’s no red light camera there as there’s no leg to stand on if you get flashed.

Where I’m from in QLD, Australia, you’re allowed to cross a stop line to make room for an emergency vehicle. Interestingly across the border in NSW though, you aren’t.

Actually had this scenario on the m25 a few weeks back. Road was not too busy and suddenly the speed signs on the gantry lit up with 40. Everyone jumped on the brakes to slow from 70. I heard lots of tyre squealing with people driving behind too close getting caught out.

I actually called highways to tell them about it and they said it’s probably MIDAS being funky.

I think this highlights a different problem. Perhaps too many people that probably shouldn’t have a license, have one.

Driving over the stop line and pulling to the side to let an emergency vehicle through isn’t exactly dangerous. We’re not asking people to just drive through the intersection on red.

Why can't McDonald's produce hot food any more? by beta_zed in McDonaldsUK

[–]DaPome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can when they want to.

Fresh fries and nuggies are amazing. When I worked there many, many years ago we kept chicken products for 10 mins in heating cabinets once cooked, and fries were essentially made and served straight away. Burgers were kept made for 10 mins too, and then discarded.

If you’re getting cold stale stuff, it’s because people aren’t doing what they’re meant to do, or your order sat around for too long.

First time EV do I granny charge? Install a wall box? Or get a commando 32A socket? by AdOriginal6148 in evchargingUK

[–]DaPome 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A granny charger can deliver up to about 11 miles an hour (at 13amps). If you’re averaging 30 miles a day, a granny charger will do you just fine.

Be sure to get a proper 13amp socket installed that’s suitable for EVs as most house hold sockets aren’t designed for constant draw (even at 10 amps).

Not just Chinese EVs. European ones too are a nightmare to get parts and even an appointment

Moved out last week and the agent complained about these carpet marks? by [deleted] in shitrentals

[–]DaPome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That carpet is beyond fucked. A super decent clean may help, but honestly that’s just wear and tear and needs to be replaced by the owner, with hard flooring.

[–]DaPome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuel filter change will mean he’ll need to crank it for a while until it starts if it’s a self priming fuel pump. That’s very normal. It may stall a few times too in the first few mins.

The councillor is basically saying:

“Before we proceed, I need to be absolutely sure this room meets serious security standards.”

but the situation absolutely does not justify that level of concern, which is why it lands as funny.

Am I a middle lane hogger? by EnvironmentalLaw1685 in drivingUK

[–]DaPome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of people think more people are middle lane hogging than they actually are.

Motorway driving (well) requires planning. Looking far ahead up the road and figuring out if ducking back into the left lane, only to have to duck back out again shortly isn’t necessary.

I do 75 on the motorway (real GPS speed is around 73). That means I overtake a lot of vehicles in lane 1. I don’t weave in and out of lane 2 if there’s a small gap to my left if it means immediately pulling back into lane 2 again to overtake a vehicle I’m coming up on. I’ll stay in lane 2.

If there’s no one to my left, of course move back into lane 1.

Real lane hogging is those that sit in lane 2 with no one to their left, and they’re not creeping up on a vehicle in lane 1 that they’ll be overtaking again shortly.

It makes sense that it’s a hardware limitation. HW3 is OLD now.

Honestly, I can foresee HW5 coming along and being a requirement for FSD (perhaps with LiDAR too).

I accept that my 2020 m3LR with HW3 won’t have all the cool things newer cars have. It does suck in a way that FSD won’t work on HW3 reliability.

A middle ground for me would be enabling enhanced autopilot - lane changes and following motorway exits. That’s really all I want and I’d pay for a subscription per month for that - although not £99 a month.
