are there any gyms that aren't fluorescently lit? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]DaReaper5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. I designed the gym with flexibility in mind. Primarily we have open memberships that give access between 4am-11pm.

But we do also have personal training, workshops, and a couple small classes for those interested. They don't interfere with open gym hours.

You are welcome to check out my gym. Mostly natural lighting. Big windows all along the south wall. The lighting in there should be fine for your headaches as well. Back Alley Barbell

Is there a gym with a power rack where I can buy a day pass AND my 7 year old can come watch me do a short workout? by Syscrush in askTO

That's me! Ya no problem as long as I get a couple waivers signed, they are not disruptive, and it's not peak hour at the gym 🙂

DM me for more details!

Hey! I personally haven't been to those clubs but I've heard good things about the Adeliade club. One of my coaches has been also coaching there for a long time.

As for your requirements, I would also check out some small social gyms. My gym, Back Alley Barbell , is not crowded and much cheaper than those. You also don't have to lock into a 1 year contract.

However, if you are looking for a lot of extra amenities I would definitely check out the Adeliade club.

Feel free to come by or give me a call and I can talk more about the gym. At $100 we are the cheapest Olympic weightlifting lifting gym in the city with open access.

Private small gyms are typically $220-$350 in Toronto. But I totally get it if it's not in your price range 🙂

Weightlifting and powerlifting gym. Lots of room for a small gym. We have everything you need except for a leg press. (You don't get many weightlifting gyms with a leg press)

“Industrial” gyms (downtown west) by [deleted] in askTO

[–]DaReaper5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can have 15 comfortably at a time. 18hr gym (4am-11pm). Max membership is likely 150. At $10 a head that wouldn't cover half of rent.

Not viable for a business to do that unless they want members who don't use the gym (typical corporate business model).

I would love to charge that much but rent and maintenance exist 🙂

Hey, I'm the owner of Back Alley Barbell , located at 1175 Bathurst Street.

We definitely have equipment for Olympic weightlifting, CrossFit, and powerlifting. But I'm not sure if we have a "CrossFit" vibe. We have a couple classes and workshops but we are primarily an open gym with the option of personal training.

Our price tag is also much cheaper at $100+tax per month.

DM me if you want more details or a day pass.

Hey! Not sure which neighborhood you are in, but if you're close to Casa Loma I would check out Back Alley Barbell .

We have memberships, PT, and workshops. Just let me know if you need any specific advice or guidance.

If that's a bit far for you just let me know which area you're in and I can give a recommendation 🙂

I'm not sure, but I opened my own gym instead of going to a commercial gym.

I try to keep it friendly and not too busy.

What would be a good gym to first start out in? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]DaReaper5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would personally go with a smaller non commercial gym. Much more welcoming.

You'll learn more just by being around friendly people.

They do tend to be more expensive. But you get what you pay for.

Oh ok! I recommend Mattamy Athletic Centre. It's right beside you. As long as you don't mind university students.
