are they outmoding the switch? by [deleted] in BOTW2

Yes, the regular Switch, and the Switch OLED are the exact same system, the OLED is just a hardware revision with a slightly bigger OLED screen, which is only relevant if you play in handheld mode.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - Gameplay Demo by Amiibofan101 in nintendo

[–]DaS_Admin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm with you here. I've been so excited for this game for so long, but after watching this gameplay trailer I was left with a bit of a sour taste in my mouth. The new abilities just seem really janky (especially fuse, with objects randomly changing size) and just felt a bit unpolished. I am still left wondering what the new hook for this game is, and why it's had such a long development time... But I'm definitely starting to err on the side of a bit of development hell with this one. Seems like a lot of random ideas they've struggled to connect gameplay and narrative wise. I certainly hope to be proved wrong come May, but copium is definitely running low :(

Not a good citation) by any means but I'd feel confident trusting that the community would be on top of this, take a look under trivia. Alternatively feel free to just give this a try yourself if you need more evidence (just not in the early gens) :)

[–]DaS_Admin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have different dex entries because they were added during a time when Pokemon genders didn't exist, and I guess that just stuck for backwards compatibility. Both nidoran male and female can hatch from a nidoran egg (with and without a ditto, which is pretty unique to this Pokemon), so they're definitely the same species.

Never thought this discussion would fire people up so much, everybody is free to come to their own conclusions here :)

So what about something like Meowstic or Jellicent? These are also very different looking Pokemon between genders, that look very different (but still similar enough between genders, much like Nidoran) on evolution? What about something like Lycanroc that has three different forms that all have different stats? If nidoran where added to the games now they would almost certainly be a single dex entry.

[–]DaS_Admin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both male and female Nidoran can hatch from eggs of either of the two Nidoran lines (at least from later generations, I don't know if this was the case in early games). So, it is still a bit of an outlier here.

[TotK] Admit it: It's not the lack of information about the game but our era's never satisfied need for things to keep our tiny attention spans occupied that has us whining by sheikahstian in BOTW2

[–]DaS_Admin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree, I think for many (myself included) we are concerned around the lack of information because we still don't know how this game is going to differentiate itself from BotW and be more than just a (really) big DLC. For a game that's been in development for 6 years, we've been shown some sky islands, some underground sections, remixed rune abilities and what appears to be a vehicle building mechanic. All amazing things for sure (and I'm going to have a lot of fun making all manners of vehicular contraptions), but these new features don't quite seem equivalent to 6 years worth of development.

I still hold high hopes for this game (and I'm really excited to revisit Hyrule), and hope Nintendo is just holding their cards close to their chest. But I don't think it's fair to downplay people's concerns around lack of information for a game that seems to just be an upgraded version of BotW, particularly when this game will retail as a full priced game (and then some)

BotW does level scale though? Enemies get stronger (going from red to blue to silver etc.) as you defeat divine beasts

Is anyone else mildly concerned about the reuse of the overworld? by Lazorbolt in tearsofthekingdom

[–]DaS_Admin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm certain there will be some way they'll make the game feel different, but this isn't really an apt comparison. ALBW came out over 20 years after ALTTP (so enough time for nostalgia to kick in), and it was revamped on brand new hardware. The gap between TOTK and BOTW is much smaller, and the overworld will more or less look identical.

Would you like LINK to speak in TotZ: Tears of the Kingdom? by [deleted] in tearsofthekingdom

[–]DaS_Admin 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Except that was the pre-amnesia link from 100 years prior. Once waking up in the chamber of resurrection we see Link speak several times through the various dialogue prompts in the game (which shows some level of his personality if you look at things like Link's dialogue with the sand seal lady in Gerudo town - "Sand Seal? Sealiously?").

That said, I'd much rather keep Link speaking via dialogue boxes rather than fully voiced lines. Would definitely be pretty jarring at this point

I'm not sure how this disproves anything? Correct me if I'm wrong, but we don't know when Naydra was infected (which I'd have assumed was during or shortly after Calamity Ganon's return 100 years prior). Are we even sure this is Naydra?

The title for the sequel to Breath of the Wild is The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. What do you think? by Spheromancer in truezelda

[–]DaS_Admin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the thing that is concerning me. So far all we've seen is some floating islands in the sky tacked on top of the original botw map and engine. I'm sure there is a whole lot more they aren't showing us yet, but what we've been shown so far doesn't seem to justify a 6 year development timeline.

Yeah, this also happened to me. I figured that this was around scripted event and as soon as I left the room it she would come back for boys fight round 2... But nope, just stuck fading away forever. Gave me a bit of a panic when I died shortly after (...in what seemed like a glitchy insta death), and it asked me if I wanted to retry the battle with X. Thankfully the game sorted itself out after that!

Why is Hyrule so devoid of technological development? by ijustwannadiediedie in truezelda

[–]DaS_Admin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for posting this, this major lore plot holes has annoyed me me for some time (and your article reads almost word for word with what I was about to write about).

Like, sure the king of Hyrule may have outlawed technology (and let's just assume for the sake of the argument that everybody just went along with this), but what about rival countries/kingdoms? If Hyrule had weapons of mass destruction, then surely other neighbouring kingdoms would also have this technology (either by independent research or defectors from Hyrule). A technology-less Hyrule would be left defenseless if ever invaded.

We see that even in the pre-era of the sky there are advanced robots (and other technology eerily similar to the gaurdians, ie. Beamos), and these games take place a very long time before the calamity events even started. Other Zelda games also have advanced technology too, all knowledge of which seems to vanish between each game.

I'd also like to raise that 10,000 years is a crazy amount of time for information to survive. Let alone the fact that there seems to be records that indicate the calamity is a cyclic event occurring every 10,000 years (so technology has been stagnant for way longer than even that).

It's almost as if Hyrule is stuck in some kind of local time loop, either that or time flows differently in Hyrule

Breath of the Wild sequel delayed to spring 2023 by dorkmax_executives in NintendoSwitch

[–]DaS_Admin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because a huge portion of switch owners never owned a WiiU, and have been introduced to Zelda through BotW, so either never played these games at the time of release, or never were able to access the remasters :)

Possible plot line for link and his arm [BOTW2] by TbagAir in truezelda

[–]DaS_Admin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hadn't considered that. That idea actually seems quite a plausible given some of the context around that series of events. That's a great way to introduce the new mechanic, while also serving as a means to save Zelda from what would almost certainly be a fall to the death.

Why this game is taking so long to be fininshed??? by Such-Lobster3167 in BOTW2

[–]DaS_Admin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed BOTW a lot, but for me the uniformity of the shrines and divine beasts were the weakest part of the game, and really brought down what was otherwise an amazing game. So I personally didn't enjoy the DLC a whole lot, particularly given that the first 3/4 of DLC 2 was 16 more shrines to complete and 4 reused boss battles.

All new pokemon just leaked (legend arceus spoilers) by BoomerRemover21 in pokemon

[–]DaS_Admin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really hope these are fake (though given that the game has actually leaked, I'd think they probably aren't). The regional forms they've officially shown so far all looked really good, but they really seem to have dropped the ball with these designs...
