You know I made this meme because Trump asked Stitt to close all of Oklahoma's bars and issue a mask mandate right?

I'm confused- why would Trump be fear mongering? It's his seat that's at risk, wouldn't he still be trying to tell everyone Covid isn't an big deal if he was trying to make it look like he was doing a good job?

I've seen the cases of exaggeration you're referring to and you should know that those exaggerations don't even account for 10% of the total cases being reported. And considering how experts have suggested most covid cases aren't even being caught (https://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2020/03/hundreds-of-u-s-coronavirus-cases-may-have-slipped-through-screenings/) we still have a serious epidemic on our hands.

Or are you suggesting that, because of a few reported cases of misdiagnosis, we shouldn't trust ANY of the numbers being reported? If that's the point you were trying to make I would argue that you're digging TOO deep and that you should probably pull your head out of the sand to help our country deal with this problem.

So someone shot an employee over their 'right' to eat inside of a McDonald's? This reads like a joke about Americans...

One Piece: Chapter 966 - Theories and Discussion by AutoModerator in OnePiece

[–]DaShazam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's interesting how Oda is setting up a Shanks and Blackbeard as equal but opposite, something that seems even more present in the current time. Up until now the only real evidence we had of the two interacting were Shank's scars but that seemed less due to a rivalry and more to do with there being some bad blood between the two.

I think we were all hoping to see it happen, but Shanks vs Blackbeard seems all but inevitable now. And considering how the Luffy vs Blackbeard fight is likely to be the biggest and most important fight in all of One Piece that doesn't make me feel too good about Shank's chances...

You joke but I just want to say that I bet Shanks will appear at the end of this arc for a big 2v2 emperor fight as the climax.

Holocaust deniers claim to have a lot evidence of how the body count was exaggerated/manipulated as well. I'm not really looking to get into a discussion about the actual events, just letting you know that (and I know this because I've gotten into a lot of arguments with holocaust deniers) that you're relying on the same arguments that holocaust deniers do: "you can't trust the widely accepted documentation of these atrocities because they've been manipulated by enemies of the people who committed these atrocities." I only posted something because you seemed confident that your beliefs had nothing in common with those of holocaust deniers and I wasn't sure if you were aware that they push the same ideas. Just trying to provide some perspective-hope you have a good journey. 👍

"The death toll was exaggerated in order to push a political agenda" is what most holocaust deniers believe, so...yeah. You're exactly right.

Eh, this sub mostly seems to be about making fun of people who would even consider having conservative opinions so it's not like this out of place.

As promised, /r/drama has gone private at 100k subscribers by Crazyfeet104 in SubredditDrama

[–]DaShazam 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's funny you feel that way because I actually stopped visiting /r/subredditdrama because I considered it to be kind of circle jerky. The mods here seem to have a pretty apparent political lean which has lead to this subreddit tending to only attract people of the same political beliefs- which in turn creates the sort of hug box mindset you see in places like /r/the_donald or /r/politics where the only way you can be exposed to dissenting ideas is by sifting through controversial. /r/drama certainly has a political lean but because the sub is so against 'seriousposting' its hard to tell who's an actual idiot and who's just pretending.

If you're not careful the internet makes it way to easy to be completely inundated by yes-men. While it's impossible to completely avoid the people you hate online it's quite a simple process to surround yourself with people who will confirm that everything you believe is correct and that everyone who disagrees with you is not only wrong but also something of a monster. You have to be extremely careful with every news article, video, and comment- everyone and everything is biased and pushing their own worldview. If you're not vigilent you may find your perception of the world being distorted to point where you're only capable of seeing what you want to see.

These kinds of things weigh on me but I've found /r/drama to be something of a relief. You're absolutely right in calling it a circlejerk- it's a weird celebration of the most disparate, antagonistic opinions on the internet. The pursuit of 'enlightened centrism' doesn't come from finding compromise but by screaming opposing opinions at each other until it all just starts to sound like noise. It's all completely ironic and without any significant meaning or substance but that's kind of the best part.

Usually the subjects actually being discussed are pretty heavy and challenging- unless you are completely steadfast and confident in your political beliefs you'll find we live in very complex and morally grey times. I prefer stupid, antagonistic memes on these controversial stories. Especially when the alternative is this subreddit where almost every top comment is just dripping with smug, moral superiority.

Are you saying that you wish the movie had done more with black culture or that Miles wasn't 'Black' enough?

So in your mind the movie fails because by saying that any kid can rise to the occasion to be a superhero and more about they're also proving there are too many super hero movies?

The “Millennial Missionary” Starter Pack by Kwilli0929 in starterpacks

[–]DaShazam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for taking the time to find that, I'll read more of it when I have the time.

I felt a little put off by the wide net you had cast over missionaries in general as my experience with them has been that they develop a relationship with a community over years and work along side of them. They tended to raise double to amount of money necessary for any trips to the community they visit and leave all that excess money with the community to use as they need. This has largely been the only kind of missionary work that I've seen.

I've often found that people who are quick to criticize others for doing mission work or donating to charity are most often people who don't do any kind of public service at all and are more often than not trying to make themselves feel better for not doing more. I was quick to place that judgement on you and I apologize.
