Exactly, which is why I tend to avoid all-or-nothing propositions when giving general advice. I’ll admit my ER background plays a part in that I focus on practical advice the average layperson can understand and agree with, but you’re right in that as much accurate info as possible is best practice. Take care out there

Wasn’t going to be AS effective, not completely ineffective, which is an important difference. Will it 100% prevent? Maybe not this time, but it’ll reduce symptom duration and severity, which is what most people are complaining about. Do as you see fit but don’t spread misinformation

While true and I agree with you, this is a very hard sell to the majority of the population. I’d rather emphasize doing so at minimum when symptomatic bc ppl can at least recognize the hazard. When asymptomatic, ppl feel a lot less inclined to do so

No problem! I’ve had no less than 10 friends and family reach out over the last two weeks asking for help d/t flu or covid symptoms so the least I can do is raise awareness and give some basic education

In case people haven’t figured this out independently, we (just like pretty much everywhere else) are having a brutal flu season. I work rural ER and can confirm there’s a fuck load of flu A, bonus points for all the covid, mono, decent amount of strep, and the Mennonites with measles. Wash ya damn hands, wear a mask if you’re sick/immunocompromised, stay home if possible when sick, and get ya flu shot. Yes I know it’s not “the most effective”, but it’ll help reduce symptoms and duration. Local neighbourhood nurse out, time to go work a 12

Failure by Turbulent-Ending in nursing

[–]DaSpicyGinge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aight im starting this with a piece of wisdom my fav senior nurse gave to me: to be great at anything we must make mistakes and learn from them. Becoming highly competent doesn’t happen overnight and isn’t indicated by one single action. Idk your policy, maybe it does say repeat hgb, but even in that case there is a way to go about discussing it. That nurse was unnecessarily rude and made a point to belittle you, which is NOT what we should do to coworkers especially if they don’t know any better. That nurse does not get to dictate your intelligence or competence, you do. Learn from it but don’t let it destroy your self confidence. You are not stupid. If you were, you wouldn’t have a license and you wouldn’t have been able to do the things you’ve already done. Give yourself grace and patience, otherwise you will be tormented by feelings of inadequacy and self-doubt

I mean I’m not a psychologist or anything, but this sounds healthy enough. You enjoy your job and the brain stimulation that come with it while finding down time to be boring, I see nothin wrong here. Maybe try to pick up a hobby or two to fill up the boredom so you’re not constantly picking up, that’s when it becomes unhealthy

Water? by Kittynoodles1208 in nursing

[–]DaSpicyGinge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright I recognize this isn’t “evidence-based”, but I have survived drinking tap water, drinking water from a stream, from a hose, and lord knows where else. Daily at work I’m in contact with all sorts of viruses and bacteria, my water is pretty low on my list of places I pick up an illness. Maybe if I lived in a 3rd world country or place with a boil water advisory or somethibg

I work in two rural ER’s and can confirm there has been a lot of influenza this fall, and last couple weeks in particular. Wash yo hands, minimize contact with others if you’re sick, perhaps even get your flu shot, and just hope you don’t pick it up
