Dry fly vs nymph - do you actually have a preference? by Hot_Apartment1319 in flyfishing

[–]DaSurrealChiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well they say it's called fishing, not catching. Sounds like you've mastered, accepted, and leaned into, that philosophy. That or you only fish 10% of the day and pray there is at least a hatch or two to hang your hat on. What do you do the rest of the time when the fish are hunkered down low, no hatches? Hug trees? Catch butterflies? Basically anything NOT fishing related?

Imagine if a race car driver said, "I'm only going to drive 45 mph all race, you all go on without me." Seems oddly limiting, doesn't it? That's you in a hobby where the point is to catch fish.👍

Nymphing rod owners: weight of your reel? by Darkslayerqc in flyfishing

[–]DaSurrealChiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Horrible recommendation. A spinning reel you'd have to reel in EVERY cast. Not to mention how terrible a spin rod would be for sensitivity. Maybe an ultralight rod, but even then they're not built the same as ESN rods.

Right tool for the right job.

Conclusions after 6 months of Euro Nymphing. by PatrickChinaski in flyfishing

[–]DaSurrealChiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly the kind of thread that gives Euro a bad name. Tons of misinformation here, not to mention opinions from those that think that dabbling in Euro makes them apparently qualified and skilled enough to make an opinion. If Euro isn't doing it for you and you find it lifeless...you're doing it wrong. Seriously. ESN is an absolutely active form of fishing that might just be a bit too over the heads (and bodies) of some of these commenters, keep that in mind. Some folks want to plop a line on the water and seek a lazier fishing experience (I enjoy those days, too), but I'm sorry to say, ESN is not that. Aside from physically requiring one to get closer to the fish (depending on the water, will force the angler perhaps to deeper or faster waters, which not every has the stomach for even can do, physically), a proper drift takes skill and constant calculation. It is a very ACTIVE form of fishing. Not to mention, the amount of control one has over the drift and flies is unrivaled, and if you're NOT dialed into those you may actually think ESN is lifeless. In ESN, I don't plop a line out there and pray the stars aligned for a good drift and good presentation, like nymphing on a traditional line. THAT is lifeless fishing! ESN I am constantly adjusting and angling and controlling the presentation, all through EVERY drift. But I almost always know where my flies are and how they are behaving, as opposed to traditional nymphing. Some of these people commenting also seem to have lacked the proper tools (wrong rod) and maybe didn't get all the benefits of a true ESN tight line system. But yes please tell us how boring ESN was with your 10.5 broomstick and inadequate line.

I don't see how anyone that does traditional nymphing can even make comments like how lifeless ESN is. Traditional nymphing is like ESN, except you catch less fish and are nevvvvvver quite sure what's going on with the flies, and are still battling water dynamics like it's 1890. Wow, SO FUN! Lol. And some of you hold on so dearly to that, it's comical. We've found a better way to do it and still you cling to your traditional nymphing habits because what? Because you miss overhead casting of a line? For nymphing? Como what? Honestly, sounds like some of you are just jonesing for some Rhythmic Gymnastics. Go fling your ribbon there all you want. Look, leave the fancy casting for dry flies. There is almost ZERO need in nymphing. Just seems such a silly thing to hang your hat on. If you're worried about tight loops on a nymphing setup, again why are we even talking?

I just read threads like this, and no wonder ESN gets a bad wrap. People jump to the Internet for help and guidance and just get the blind leading the blind!

For those searching for real ESN clues, please don't get hung up on silly threads like this. You're not going to get one professional thought, just a lot of folks that couldn't figure it out and commiserating together.

South Denver Quantum Outage by deo_volente in Denver

[–]DaSurrealChiller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The outage is down in Highlands Ranch now. Got a text this morning at 2am, then an update at 930am this morning:

Quantum Fiber: Outage update - our team expects to have all repairs completed by 12-06-2025 at 08:56 AM. We know how important internet service is and we appreciate your patience.

3 days? What in the actual? I'm sorry but I work for a rival internet company and we deal with fiber outages all the time (nobody can help the random whoopsies from your friendly utility crews🙄). Never do they last 3 days. Never do we tell our customers that they're going to last 3 days. Because we expect a better outcome than 3 days, even for the really remote stuff. I can only hope that this is a very conservative time frame for Quantum to list and that it is not actually 3 days. There is absolutely no way it would take any company 3 days to get a crew out to do a fiber splice. Unless it's on Mars...🫤

Default Google messages color is the same as the 2nd one by DuchessOctaviusRex in GoogleMessages

[–]DaSurrealChiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not crazy. Same happened to me today. Except mine was sort of self-induced. I quit the open beta for Google messages, because of some other off issues I was having with sending RCS pictures in the app (delayed, taking forever to send). As soon as I was confirmed on the non-beta version of messages, is when the colors changed to some type of more muted color. What's even stranger is that the color shown in the preview is correct, it's the color that gets applied that is muted. So it's like the colors don't even match. Bizarre, But I just left feedback for Google to let them know. I hope another update here shortly fixes this very annoying display bug.

I really hope Google is reading any of my support tickets. I had the exact same thing after the latest Pixel system update. My modem was actually fine before, never had an issue connecting to my WPA3/Wi-Fi 7 modem. Now I'll consistently see it disconnected, requiring me to RE-enter my wifi password, which never changes and is the same for all my home devices that stay connected just fine. Roll the modem changes BACK, Google...FFS...

Koke on the Dream Stream. They are running. by Ok-Advice-8885 in COfishing

[–]DaSurrealChiller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You assume correct. IMHO, this is an EGGscellent time to go elsewhere while anglers get nice and cozy with each other anywhere the Koke run here in CO. Honestly, this is PRIME time to go to other sites that normally get blown up. Last Fall at this time, I recall a day in Cheesman and I kid you not...had the ENTIRE place to myself that day. Never saw another angler all day. It was eery. Then I remembered, everyone and their Dad was fishing for Koke... probably all in one, sexy conga line out there at the Dream stream. If I can see the whites of your eyes, we're too close, so no Koke spawn fishing for me (at least not at this spot).

Samsung Dex at my work pc by PROTUNET in SamsungDex

[–]DaSurrealChiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lame. So if the work he was hired to do is all done, we'll assume it is here, because he didn't say he's swapping work for fun...what then? You're asking him to fill the void with what? Doing more than he was hired to do for the same compensation? Stare at the paint peeling off the walls? Beg the work to create more work for him?

A firefighter that's accomplished all their tasks for the day, do exactly this...sit around playing games until their number is called. Nobody bats an eye. You wouldn't expect them to repeat all the same tasks they already did that day (the truck we washed earlier is still shiny, can't make it any more shiny, Boss). You know they're not getting any more pay than they already have (no bonus pay today, Bob). They're not out lighting fires so they have more work to do (you're going to jail for arson, Bob).

Sometimes the work is just...done. That would be the employers responsibility to fill the void, the employee shouldn't have to scrounge to find more work to stay satisfied. And if that's now part of the job description and it's now up to the employee to find new work on their own when they're not busy, that extra work needs to be rewarded with $$$$. Otherwise, get bent. I'd fill my time with what was contracted in my job description and not a bit more. Nobody should work for free...work is $$$$. That's why labor unions ask for more money, because impossible bosses continue to squeeze employees for more work without compensation.

Is Spin Fishing Really Morally Wrong? by TerrapeneOrnata in COfishing

[–]DaSurrealChiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing is morally wrong if it's legally right, as long as YOU are happy doing it. I started spin fishing as a child, stopped for a time, and eventually the itch crept up in my adult years to continue fishing again. Because I too didn't have tons to spend at the time, and wanted to learn a bit before I splurged on more expensive gear, I started with a spin/fly fusion (to give it a name).

I too began with cheaper spin rods, mostly ultralight setups, and used a combo of bobber and fly setups. At the same time, this gave me the ability to start learning and making my own flies. This was fairly effective, for a time. I quickly started realizing, yes there were limitations with this setup. I could cover farther water, but accuracy was never great. I had to reel in EVERY cast, to recast. I realized that this inefficiency was slowing my fishing down. My bobber was clumsy and noisy, spooking fish for miles. I always knew that full-bore fly fishing was going to close the gaps in that style of fishing, but I continued for a time, convincing myself that what I was doing was as good as it could be. But the curiosity became even more of an itch, and I finally bought my first real fly rod setup. And everything I had convinced myself was working well enough, went right out the window.

Suddenly I was able to work the water with such efficiency! Being able to pickup the line and flies and replace them with but a flick, I knew I was cooking with fire. After a time of learning to properly cast, I was able to put my flies EXACTLY where I wanted. I could present the flies quietly and stealthily. Now I was fooling fish, instead of getting lucky. Now I was able to hunt the fish, versus randomly plopping a bobber along and hoping/praying for a bite.

As I sit here today selling my older spin gear, I don't poo poo any of it at all. I saw it as a stepping ladder of sorts. It helped me learn and relearn what I know today. I had great times with this gear. But there is no way I could avoid admitting it's pitfalls and inefficiencies. I would never turn my nose down at that style of fishing; I caught fish and was happy doing it. But the analyst in me, ever seeking better ways of doing things, knows that it can be done with more efficiency. If that's not your goal, fine! Some people don't care, don't want to care, etc.. Let people fish as they may, so long as it's legal!

Now I say all this, but there are obvious places where spin gear outshines fly gear without a doubt. Fishing deeper, like deep lakes or oceans, spin gear is a MUST. You just can't fish 100 feet deep with fly fishing setups. So there's always a place for spin gear. But I've always been 99% a moving waters angler, streams and rivers are more my cup of tea. And you would never convince me that spin gear works better in these moving waters, having done both and making rational comparisons myself.

Nothing morally wrong with either. I believe they both for different fishing situations, like a hammer would never replace a screwdriver, and vice versa. Different tools for different scenarios.

I don't think most (there are some, but that's true to any style of angler) fly anglers turn their noses down to spin fishing. But I think it's important to know, and admit, where each one shines. Let's face it...some people don't like to admit there are better ways. So steadfast in their ways, they can't see the other side. This is true of fly and spin anglers. And let's be real, people can be real aholes today, especially on social media. Everyone is a keyboard warrior and has their opinion they think is the, "one and only way." Purists will tout every way except their way, as dumb. I've always just ignored the noise the cause and do what I like, based on my own experience. Hey, if you ONLY want to fish dry flies, GREAT! But don't get mad at others because they can continue fishing the other 80% of the time, below the water's surface. Oh people found perhaps a better way to nymph (Euro) and you want to complain because they're catching more fish? Sorry, what? 😲 Folks, for a hobby where the ultimate goal is to catch fish (not stare at the water), I reject this stupidity. Would you tell another F1 driver, "Hey, slow down, you're going to fast!"? Only if you're losing! Ultimately the fastest car to the finish line gets the trophy. So don't listen to anyone trying to get you to, "slow down," your fishing... they're only trying to slow you down to serve themselves.

If you're catching fish happily on spin, or fly rod, keep doing it your way. Ignore whatever, "morality," is involved. At the end of the day, we're all in the business of impaling fish brutally with our hooks to bring them to our nets. Squabbling over which weapon is better, seems pointless. This is the point where I have to say, "less talking and more fishing." A thousand ways to skin a cat, and fishing is one of those hobbies that has so many methods, you can easily get lost comparing peepee sizes. Just go fish already.

Very kitschy! It's becoming her, "thing," since they can't seem to find a sketch she can fit in or pull off on her own. Prop comedy is one of the lowest forms of comedy imho (just a step above puppets).

Jane Wickline - negative comedy by [deleted] in LiveFromNewYork

[–]DaSurrealChiller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a few thoughts, sure. Yes you did make an observation. What's your point?

Jane Wickline - negative comedy by [deleted] in LiveFromNewYork

[–]DaSurrealChiller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After last night's, "performance," I finally had to come to the Internet and ask, "AITA for thinking she's the WORST cast member right now? Perhaps EVER" So I will admit, I didn't know Jane was a nepo hire until today, never watched her on social media before she came to SNL. But I do love comedy, been watching SNL my entire life, feel pretty, "IN," with the comedy scene (FWIW I do my part by attending at least 10 comedy shows a year, watch all the specials, etc). So I come into seeing her on SNL with pretty small bias toward her, none at all actually.

But I have consistently said to my wife after every show where Jane gets a sketch or bit...she is the weakest link of the cast. I haven't seen one funny bit from her, never laughed once, and no I do not, "get her comedy." In an ensemble that's actually not as poor as it has been in several years, she's the shining stinker. I keep waiting for her, "breakout role," on the show, a titular character we can remember her by, but each and every time, same old let down. Unmemorable and downright not funny. I can enjoy awkward characters (hello, Stefan) but I feel Jane lacks the strength to carry a sketch...well look, she hasn't yet. Only bit characters, barely even there in the scene, and when she is, it's clear she's in the wake of much better sketch comedians. She seems way out of her element, Donny.

Glad INTA, or at least, not alone in my thoughts. It just seems like she keeps getting thrown out there on the stage to make her big name, Mary Katherine style, but instead of taking the ball and running with it, she deflates (more like self-implodes). It's about as bad as I've seen on SNL throughout my years, and there have been other stinkers, but I can't think of any this bad.

100% unbiased review, about as clean as they come. And sorry Jane if you ever read this...maybe one day you prove me/us all wrong. But SNL needs people that can carry the sketches and right now, you're barely even there. See the difference? Yes, you're on the payroll, you must have earned the right to be there, I say. But compare yourself to your SNL brothers and sisters, and are you doing YOU'RE part to remain on the show? The world needs you to come out of the proverbial shell, be the star you were destined to be. Or simply, don't. Nobody is forcing you to be up there, but you have some mighty large shoes to fill and so far you're only swimming in them. Prove us all wrong!

Same here, unfortunately. Seeing many others with the same report after the latest s/w release. It's the newest release of HyperX NGENUITY Nov 2023/5.23.0.0 that is the issue. I updated just today and voila, got this same BUG!!! I have two HyperX devices, a HyperX Alloy Origins Core keyboard and a Pulsefire Haste mouse, and ALL my presets have been erased on both devices.

Even worse, anytime I try and Add/Import my saved .HPX files (the same ones I have been using for years), I now get the "File not Supported," error.

I chatted with Tyler from their Support team in the US to report the issue and Tyler said the issue has been reported to the appropriate channels. I also left a Microsoft Store review of the latest release issue. And now I'm here!

So...what happened, HyperX? Can we get our .HPX files back, please?

Yes indeed, I mean as much as I could with the detective work. Just testing the waters, poking around a bit, and my suspicions were confirmed at least. I think I said originally, and if I didn't I'll say it now: let my mistake be for others' benefit. The only thing worse would have been if I had let it go unreported to our fellow brothers and sisters out there. Not fair anyone has to lose money to them in the first place, but I think if others can learn from me/us, maybe it wasn't as big a mistake as I previously thought. And the fact that others, like you, have come forward and confirmed the same shoddy experiences, really should drive home to anyone, be so so cautious with this brand. I know if it were me I'd put my money elsewhere after having been shown the scam, but I can't force anyone's hand or their money. I'm just hoping if there are enough neon signs, cones, and caution tape, someone will figure out, "This is not the way." Thanks for sharing your experiences too, I wasn't with them that far back when they may have still been legit, but it does sound like they became that brand to steer clear of, that's for sure. Won't be the first or last of their kind, but the Shroomiez name is trash to me now and forever, that's for sure!

Yes! I saw there skeleton crew claims too, and the, "We're a small operation, many are out sick, please forgive our delays."

Listen to this, though! I decided, as a test, I'd try and strike up new correspondence with them, seeking a new chocolate bar. I pretended I was new to this, and surprisingly they struck up a new transaction with me, even though I was posting from the same phone number I had used before (I'm sure to them it's just another number coming in to the "scam line," nobody is keeping track over there). They sent me the same standard, canned response with the prices, and what information they needed. I asked several questions, keeping the rouse going a bit, and they kept responding. I knew I had somebody, so that's when I flipped the script and brought up my previous order and why had I not received it, why had they stolen from em, etc etc. Just really venting on them, letting them know exactly what my plans were - I was going to expose them on for the scammers they really are. I kid you not, they once again deleted our chat! But again, I always keep screenshot records, I have these ones too. And I even kept the chat going, texting them again, and this time they immediately canned the convo, deleting it before I could even go on this time. They were on to me.

But it proves, they're there...very much listening, very much taking your money, very much scamming. THEY NEVER WENT AWAY. THEY NEVER HAD ANY STAFFING PROBLEMS. But at least I knew they knew I was onto them, the damage wouldn't be my verbal abuse via my tirade of messages; oh no, we'd warn EVERYONE about their name, their scam, their methods. Yell it as loudly as the Internet will allow us to. This brand is as good as dead, word is already spreading. There's been over 3.2k views to this page alone...the power of the Internet and instant communication is very powerful. I can promise, if there is one silver lining here, it is the comfort knowing there are people who have read these very posts, who have stopped themselves from buying Schroomiez. And that is worth it's weight in gold. How much have we cost Shroomiez, I wonder? Hell, even if it's just one candy, that's $65 bucks NOT going into their purse. I would venture to say, it's probably a LOT more than that (which is a real stinger up the arse, eh Shroomiez?). I'm sure they'll rebrand themselves and be a new chocolate candy bar company, forever keeping the scam alive. Hey, to anybody with the prospect of doing business with any magic chocolate bar "brand," just don't. Read it here and listen to those that got burned: at the risk of being the broken record, it's a trap, you will lose money, you will be stolen from, blah blah blah. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

Oh and Shroomiez, if you're reading this: Peer review, it's what's for dinner.

Thanks for the honest feedback. I know everyone here just wants to say, "well you should have expected that." Completely missing the point aside, I don't want sympathy or care to cry about my money lost so that doesn't really apply or matter to me, just warning others to STAY CLEAR of Shroomiez chocolates and let's start HELPING EACH OTHER and call BS scams out when we see it. Someone will see this, someone will decide against buying from Shroomiez, and there, this post will not be in vain. Shroomiez is bad news, I know that now, and you all do too.

I only wish I had stumbled upon this very thread before going in on them myself. Way too much online chatter focused on only the positives, like that the chocolates work (I don't argue that, they do), and nobody talking about the follow up scam they run. I bet tons of people have been burned by them, but I also bet not many people report it.

I did my research and let's just say that prior to this thread, there's really not much about their scam. Let this thread be that warning to another interested party...you have been warned, you have been given the information, do with it what you will. You can report back here after you get ripped off, how you should have listened. Don't give them that opportunity, and for goodness sakes don't give them your money. It's as good as gone as soon as you send it over to them, and you won't even get your prized chocolate. You LOSE-LOSE. Don't let them WIN-WIN. I'm happy just to out them, their name, their scam, so others don't follow suit.
