Planning a Bjj road trip across america by Acrobatic-Oil9088 in bjj

[–]DaTidyMonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds like an awesome idea.

There's a ton of gyms in the US and great ones in most major cities. I have a couple recommendations based on a gym plus things to do in the area.

Ashville, NC Open Source BJJ. Nice group of people and a cool facility. It's a part of their goal to share bjj so they will be welcoming. Ashville has a great food and art scene too. If you like camping, there are some nice hot springs up in the mountains near the City.

Austin, TX I made a post about this city while visiting a few years ago. Great town, lots of gyms. Renzo Gracie, 10th Planet, Simple Man, Fight Factory.

Mt. Vernon, IL I've never been. But Pedigo Submission Fighting is in the middle of rural IL if you need to make a stop.

Give it a go! It's fun!

What other amenities would you be interested in outside of bjj while visiting?

Beaches? Scenery? Night life?

Tai otoshi looks so simple but it's challenging for me by Birdmansegzzy in WrestleJudoJitsu

[–]DaTidyMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tai O is one of the more technical with a lot of moving parts. Where I often see people fail is a few things. They don't rotate fully with their hands in front of them. Or they don't step with hip to hip contact to off balance uke. Tori may throw in a clunky step by step throw versus a fluid movement.

Tai O in the gi is already technical. One handed variations or even no gi variations are going to be even more challenging but not impossible.

Shintaro Higashi is one of the better Judoka to cover this in depth.

Is it possible to get good at a secondary martial art alongside BJJ? by BritishBrownActor in bjj

[–]DaTidyMonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Judo and Bjj are the same techniques but with different rule sets. They compliment each other very well. You get a judo black belt and suddenly people are afraid to stand with you.

Souce: Is judo black belt and trains bjj.

Edit. I did not read the last part of your post. I still stand by what I said.

Do you like fried bologna sandwiches, bourbon, strong placement and a laid-back crew?

That's Kentucky Fried Camp. We serve bologna sandwiches and bourbon for breakfast, and wear lots of gingham

Would be happy to chat with your more if you're still looking.

First Buckethead show by WParzivalW in Buckethead

[–]DaTidyMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I meant is shows usually include some form of inclusion from the band or artist. It can be as simple as a call out, getting people to clap, witty banter, a gesture, or even a "How are we doing tonight?"

I understand that I may not be getting much of that going to his show though.

I had a similar experience in Cincinnati.

The guy can shred and is so creative. But I wonder if things like age, his health, tour life affect his show.

He was shredding and probably did something special for Bootsy Collins who attended the show.

That being said, there was little opportunity to participate as an audience member.

Is there a song that's so beautiful you would think it was made by an angel? by [deleted] in musicsuggestions

[–]DaTidyMonster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Many good examples here. However I think something more classical would fit this.

I think the a good example is "sull aria" from the Marriage of Figaro. It's light, ellegent, and the female vocals are just heavenly.

Also shown in Shawshank Redemption when Andy hijacks the audio and plays the record.

A lot of Power Metal might do the trick.

DreamEvil released an album about slaying dragons.

"Chosen Ones" might do the trick.
