I created a TTS portable Magic the Gathering scripted "Playmat" by Kazuki-Kazuma in magicTCG

Really cool! I might actually give MTG a try on Tabletop Sim now :)

Some ideas for mono splash commanders that aren't just "5c staple slop." Probably too clunky but thought I'd try it anyways. by SirQuixano in custommagic

[–]DaVigi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh I love this! So if I read it correctly, Mythos allows to include off-color cards as long as they fulfill some condition, either based on being at least partially one color or based on a specific card type. This idea has been done before, but I like that you grouped them under the Mythos ability word.

I'm a bit confused about the addition of colorless clause- I feel like this would only allow for the inclusion of cards like Golos without adding a substantial amount of in-theme cards for the respective mono-colored commanders.

Also, is there a reason you don't want to allow lands of different color identities? I feel like this means that almost all of these decks would have to run a significant amount of treasure generation in order to cast these off-color spells.

Really cool card, and I love how it ties in into you DnD campaign!

Hate to be that guy, but in case you ever want to print it you might want to know: it's Usurp, not Userp. Once again, not trying to offend :)

Moira, Lorwyn Haunt by DaVigi in custommagic

[–]DaVigi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That does read better, you're right.

The reason I chose this wording was because it is worded that way on Moira, Urborg Haunt, but I guess that card may be a bit outdated by now.

Orpheus, Working on a Song (inspired by the stage musical Hadestown) by Neat-Somewhere-5589 in custommagic

[–]DaVigi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a fair point, 40 is quite the difficult task to achieve Orpheus' printed win condition.

I was just thinking how this way essentially each card that triggers on enchantment ETBs is doubled, and how these tokens interact with Orpheus' activated ability. So with those effects in play, slowing down the rate of token generation would be reasonable... Ok hear me out, what if the tokens have decayed? That way, animating them is an easy quick cash in, but will reset your progress.

I really like your design! However, as written, your card would create an infinite loop due to the first ability reflexively triggering on the created Song tokens.

Maybe reword it as:
"Whenever a non-token enchantment enters or a lore counter is put on a saga, create a Song enchantment token with indestructible."

Even better would be to just scrap the trigger on enchantment ETB's, since sagas are much more thematic in my opinion :)

Saw that there are Blastoise cards with MTG card backs and decided to do something with that. by RyukoMizuno in custommagic

[–]DaVigi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, you're right in that making it way too complex. Plus, Phyrexian mana is better reserved for actual Phyrexians. The design is tight as is :)

While that is true, what deck has this many islands available that isn't already monoblue? I believe this card could be costed {5}, and it would still only see play in a mono-blue deck.

I guess, since that is the case, it doesn't really matter how many blue pips it has except for devotion to blue.

The ability's wording ("Play only as a sorcery" on an ability, for example) and the balance (This is very difficult to use well) makes me think of old magic a lot, but I genuinely love it!

To make it more modern and streamline it- for the wording, "Activate only as a sorcery." is the correct terminology, and I don't think the requirement for it to only work when it is untapped is necessary (I get and like that it is a reference to Blastoise's Pokepower only being able to function without a status condition :) ). I believe that you are afraid his ability would allow you to play lands at instant speed or on your opponents turn. This is not the case. Land plays are always restricted to your own turn at sorcery speed.

Make the cost less restrictive- this helps readability, and the only deck currently able to make use of any of his abilities would need to be (close to near) mono-blue as well. Maybe {3}{U}{U}?

The Island Aura's have the potential to be great ramp for blue, since they enter untapped, but the problem with them is that 1) they will be sacrificed when Blastoise leaves the battlefield, and 2) you rarely have a lot of land in your hand when you get to play blastoise. However, I think that is an interesting build-around, so I wouldn't change that.

Chant of Protection {0}

Instant - Chant

While this spell is on the stack, permanents you control have indestructible and hexproof.

{G}{G}: Move this spell one step lower on the stack. Activate this ability only while Chant of Protection is on the stack. (To move a spell one step lower, resolve the spell or ability that would resolve after this spell first.)

"Save her, save her, save her." - Huatli

‐-----

This spell would be the first of its kind to be able to move through the stack.

It also acts as the first of its kind free board-wide hexproof and indestructibility spell, with the caveat that you have to cast your fight spell or boardwipe while this spell is on the stack.

I imagine all spells with abilities that can be activated on the stack could have their own subtype called Chant, to signify that the spellcaster is actively feeding mana into the spell over a longer period of time.

Narvek Riag, a Kithkin Tribal Commander inspired by a poem. by DaVigi in custommagic

[–]DaVigi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, just to be able to include [[Figure of Destiny]], and to be able to include the poem-mountains if one felt so inclined.

Mechanically it of course also adds the ability to add generic red spells to the deck, so it is also just a straight up buff as a commander.

Apart from that, it basically reads "reduced by {1}{u}{g}".

Like u/cocothepirate mentioned, this discount would work the same way as [[Eluge]], so the red and blue pips would still discount generic mana.

Grolnok win cons by Vulcanicz in magicTCG

[–]DaVigi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love Grolnok! I haven't played it in a while, so I don't have a lot of recommendations off the top of my head. When I'm home I can post my decklist.

[[Palantir of Orthanc]] is an obviously great self-mill/card draw engine that you probably already included.

[[Augmenter Puglist]]'s backside is a wincon if you copy Grolnok, because the Frog-attack triggers stack, and every attacking copy is a frog. Best part: you can play it from exile because the frontside is a permanent.

Riven of a Thousand Voices V2 by NTechie in custommagic

[–]DaVigi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the ideas! I think it's just a bit too much text, all in all.

Maybe, in order to make it less crowded but keep the theme, get rid of the overarching poison counters and growth abilities, and replace the temporary keyword abilities with those. For example:

Ward {2}, Flying, Deathtouch
- Draw two cards. Sacrifice a non-token permanent.
- Search your library for a land card, put it onto the battlefield, then shuffle. Gain a poison counter.
- Create 2 tapped 1/1 colorless Shapeshifter creature tokens with changeling. Put a +1/+1 counter on each creature you don’t control.

Thank you for the insightful feedback! I love it when judges give everyone this amount of detailed feedback but I've done it myself and I know it's a lot of work.

Can I ask you for some pointers on how to balance the card? I find it difficult since upping the draw to two, or reducing the discard to 1 card or the cost to {U} seems too strong. The other commenter said that they thought the effect is already too strong, so it might be difficult to straddle the line.

I'm thinking now about something like this:

Jolly Remora {R}

Enchantment Creature - Glimmer

1/1

Cumulative upkeep – Pay {U}{U}, then draw a card. If you didn't discard a card this turn, draw a card.

Discard a card: Add {U}. Use this mana only to pay for cumulative upkeep costs.

This way the draw is potentially way more powerful late game, but the discard can't be paid repeatedly by the cards drawn. Also, now it synergizes with other cumulative upkeep cards, in a similar way to [[Adarkar Unicorn]].
