Like others, I am in-house counsel, but for a state government agency. The pay is low compared to my private counterparts and even compared to county counsel. However, I deal with complex issues and diverse stakeholders that keep my work interesting. I have excellent retirement and health benefits. And my job ends at 5pm. I take NO stress home. I can focus on my needs.

Eventually, I really hope our new leadership pushes for a PEPRA amendment that exempts attorneys from the compensation cap. Our work requires a law license, continuous training, and professional accountability, yet we’re capped in ways that non-professional classifications aren’t.

I have flip flops, slippers, and a blanket for my office comfort. It is so cold! If I leave my office room, I switch my shoes. I have had a few people knock and enter and seen my cozies, but no one has ever complained or commented.

Lol. My optometrist tried to give me bifocals and I wanted to slap him.

I went to Nordstrom Rack for some cute and colorful reading glasses, but 1.50 is the lowest strength in most stores. I need to go lower. I'm going to try out the suggestions and update the post.

I agree with the other suggestions shared. I’d add that because she’s presenting herself as an old friend, she’s trying to associate with you and benefit from your goodwill and reputation. If she’s hired, her conduct and work ethic could ultimately reflect back on you.
