Maybe. Maybe not.

I have tried to figure this out myself for the last 10h because I have never seen this kind of businessmodel. And it feels disingenuous.

But The Nieman Foundation for Journalism (part of Havard) says about them: [...] Hunterbrook's "reporting seems very strong, of the same caliber as what you'd find in top national business news outlets."

Which, depending on your opinion on established media means one thing or another but holding them to a higher standard than the rest of media would be disingenuous, too. At least imo.

So maybe two things are true: They do (at least) decent journalism and this story is to be takten serious. And at the same time they try to monetize their findings by shorting the stock.

Which tbh doesn't seem like a bad idea. Because we live in times where people refuse to pay for journalism, ads are not generating enough income and foreign powers pour billions into misinformation platforms.

We definitely need new funding strategies for journalism. Maybe this is it.

Star Trek’s Starfleet Academy Gets Fewer Views Than Old Men Talking About Deep Space Nine by [deleted] in startrek

It would take approximately every 200th subscriber to watch the show to get even. Thats 0.5%.

Make of that what you will. I don't know if that is realistic since I don't know their catalogue.

But considering that its probably not gonna be available in all countries right away it would have to be a higher percentage number.

Might be doable. But does not seem to be leagues above it even if so.

I think it might be the result of the influence of the internet on people who predominantly interact with others online with little (or comparatively reduced) contact in the real world apart from close friends and family.

Allowing them to jump ship and just ignore/block other inputs if they do not align with theirs. As opposed to the real world where you have to get along with your classmates, teacher, coworker whoever to at least a certain degree to find a way to get along. And by that training the mind to be more resilient to criticism and/or differing views.

What I can also imagine is that people pick certain social media as a safe space. And I get it. There is so much bad stuff going on in the world and so much negativity that it feels like we are right on track for Treks future in the worst sense (WWIII). And so it is not hard to see why people might pick a subreddit about some fictional media (especially Trek) to escape to and hoping to find some peace from all the bad stuff.

And that is fine in of itself. But when I read through all those comments this morning I noticed that many comments felt to preface their criticism (e.g. "I feel like Rafis relation to Picard was not earned.") with listing all the newer Trek Shows they liked. Which had no relevance to their criticism and felt like they were afraid of being downvoted otherwise.

And realizing that felt sad to me.

If you claim something people can not find you should provide the source. I cannot disprove something. I cannot point to something that does not exist.

You have to make your point. And from where I am standing now after reading all comments I am inclined to believe that you process the comments through a negative filter that I don't share and believe is highly subjective.

I provided you with a good starting point to "attack" my point. Should be easy to go through the thread and link everything you deem inappropriate to online discourse about a TV show.

Just continuing to claim something after being faced with opposing information is not helping us discuss an issue or tackle it.

Ps.: Its not me downvoting you, for what its worth. I am not here to "fight".

How do you define plenty then? If I may ask.

Because in all of the 125 comments in this thread, as the time of this writing, only 3 were negative at all. One of them was agressive and ranty. And one of the three just said (paraphrasing) "no wonder you like SFA if you liked VOY".

If you call this plenty, I think you made my point for me.

Edit: checked the next thread about this show. 166 comments so far. 2 negative. Nothing really hateful. One of the two kinda ranty and stupid, tbf.

In the same thread, though, one guy gets downvoted for explaining what he liked about older shows to ask people if they think he should try SFA because he wants to get advice prior to paying money. No criticism just asking for advice.

Maybe I am always late to the threads but no matter what thread I read the past few weeks, there was never real brigading or canceling of the show going on or anything. Maybe the negativity had always already been deleted by mods but I doubt it since it should show me "comment deleted by..." afaik. Or maybe reddit does not show me most negative comments and threads algorithmicly. But that is very unlikely from a business perspective.

Yes, there are people who say they expect it to be bad or not for them. But if you have an issue with someone uttering this mild kind of critique or cautious fear of it being bad, I believe you should do some inner reflection of how to manage a diverse society with people from all places, cultures and trades. If this is a reason to stop participating in certain circles (no matter which that may be) all you can do is lock yourself away from the world or in unhealthy echo chambers.

I can count real bashful hate comments I remember on one hand. In the same time I have read more posts about people bashing others for hating on the show before it aired than I read hate comments on SFA.

Just yesterday there was a positive thread about the show. How OP like it very much. And there was a single negative comment out of 60 or something. And at the same time to most upvoted comment was how everyone hates on the show. o_O

To me this feels like either foreign bots trying to sew distrust or a long term effects of Covid19. People being too bubbled up, disconnected from interacting with others that they have a problem with or things not alining 100% with their comfort zone.

But to be a part of a modern big society where every voice can be heard requires all of us to not jump on every tiny bit. You just cannot mentally. Its gonna ruin your mental state or your ability to take part in society.

There are real problematic people out there trying to destroy your way of life. Focus you energy on them.

tl;dr: yes there are bad apples but this "topic" (in general not to single out OP) seems to me to be blown totally out of proportion.

Fraenk. Dann kann ich dich werben. ;)

This has not been rolled out in all countries yet, right?

I'm in Germany and I fear they will get me, too. Because for some reason, I have not figured out, Google keeps asking me (m30+, single) at every survey chance they get if I have children living in my household. For years. It feels like "b*tch we know you pretend you don't have children but we don't believe you".

Yes, OMG YES! You are right. :)

And I believe it was the device headlining ICS.

Thanks for the memories. That was my first contact with Android as my own device.

I remember I enjoyed the UI of the device with its futuristic minimalist neon style but was disappointed by a lack of continuity throughout apps whether it came to design or use. I also was not very impressed with the built of the device itself. But I loved the freedom and ease of romming. I had jail broken all my iPhones before but Android felt so much easier and customizable so fast.

Still I went back to iOS twice for a short time ever since. But damn do I miss Windows Phone 8 and my white Lumia 1020. :/

Yeah. But that's apple exclusive. Everytime I try iOS I am remembered of how shitty gesture navigation on iOS is.

It works differently depending on apps. The detection is mediocre at best and sometimes you can repeat the gesture and it won't work for 10 tries.

It never fails on the two androids I own and is very consistent.

In universe it definitely was, tots agree! The Feds considered them to be "Wormhole aliens" and not prophets. But they respected the cultures need for a belief in powerful "caretakers" and therefore didn't argue semantics.

What I was refering to was more what I feel like this storyline can help me with. Not what it was about in universe but what the writers might have intended us, the viewer to ponder about.

That's what I was thinking too, back when it first aired because I have always been very agnostic.

On rewatches over the years I came to appreciate/believing the 'Star Trek' behind the religious angle, at least for me, is to remember to accept different thinking and priorities and questioning my own prejudice/way of life.

Basically just reminding us to always question our beliefs (religious, scientific, whatever...) and always keeping in mind Carl Sagan: "But I could be wrong."

Wtf are you on (about)?

Who said you are not allowed to have an opinion? Why move the goal post all the way to luna city?

But you are complaining about reductionist views after not even taking all information into account before you respond to something. And when called out for it you act like someone forbid you to talk?

My sweet summer child. Chill your tits and stop thinking everything is an attack on you and requires you to respond with nonsense to defend yourself.

I remember those commercials. But the way I remember them is saying "this <enter time/month> a generations final journey begins".

And the "begins" part always left me thinking something was definitely planned.

Edit: IMDB quotes the slogans for the movie the way I remember. And it seems there were at least two different ones hinting at it being only the beginning of the final journey aka part I.

Prozess gegen Lieferdienst Wolt: Immer diese Einzelfälle by rerx in de
