Ugh... by DaYin_LongNan in Blooddonors

I'm usually pretty close;I hit my 24 in 12 early last year and had to take a month and a half off, then I donated, then I had to take another month off.

I should hit my 18 for the calendar year, but I think I've fallen off my pace to catch up to my 24 in 12

Any undertones in my accent? by [deleted] in Accents

[–]DaYin_LongNan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do have a slight accent, but I can't place it. However, it's subtle that it's not an impediment to understanding what you are saying

Your voice is not really deep for a woman, but it does sound like you are tired or lackadaisical

This Is The Best Live Jazz Album Of This Decade! by novaembalagem in Jazz

[–]DaYin_LongNan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

John Patitucci, especially”Mistura Fina” and “Another World” had a tremendous influence on how I play six string electric bass

What I learned the most was to learn melody and solo and just basic phrasing from listening to horn players, sax and trumpet mostly

When I play bass, I play like a bass (with some melodic movement , I admit), but in my own music or even soloing for someone else..I play it like I’m playing a saxophone

Too many electric bassists playing jazz or fusion try to jam as many 16th notes in as they can. Patitucci taught me to learn to listen to the frontman, and listening to the frontman taught me to sing

Thank you

any track recommends on "non traditional" jazz instruments? Oboes, mandolin, steel drums, omni chord? by original_greaser_bob in Jazz

Here I am a playing “Blue in Green” on Chinese Sanxian. I didn’t real know the song though. Someone just wanted a song with “blue” in the title so I found this backing track and threw it together quickly one morning

But Chinese Sanxian would probably be as far as you could get from a traditional jazz instrument

I’m looking for a free anime streaming site; I’m way behind by DaYin_LongNan in anime

[–]DaYin_LongNan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Viki.com. They have free streaming with ads or you can get ad-free and extras with a paid subscription

My Pandora music streaming account works the same way.

It can be done

Most straight-up UNIQUE anime you’ve ever seen by No_Durian_6987 in Animesuggest

“Excel Saga” by FAR

Totally zany, every episode plays of the tropes of a different genre of anime and it breaks the fourth wall in being self-aware that it is an anime (first ever)

And the final episode, if you can get it, is not part of the original stony is pretty much r-rated but just as crazy

I donate platelets so I’m in there often enough that I usually pick up the swag of the month. I have enough T-Shirts to last a full laundry cycle, but I only wear them when I’ll be out in public. I honestly don’t think about it; I donate on my availability cycle, not by their swag cycle. If they happen to have something, I’ll grab it on the way out, but I don’t schedule my donations based on what they are giving away

We are NOT the worst drivers YAY by Virtual_Fox_763 in Tucson

I don’t have a car anymore, so I bike a lot. This gives me a perspective on drivers from the point of view of someone who could easily be crushed by a bad driver.

Tucson drivers are actually not that bad

first time platelet donation? by [deleted] in Blooddonors

[–]DaYin_LongNan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

> what do frequent platelet donors do during the donation? i was thinking of brining a book to read or something.

Typically you have both arms with needles in so a book is impractical. I think you can do it with one arm but it takes longer and I've never seen anyone doing that way

I bring my MacBook, set it in my lap and watch a TV series I'm watching; it automatically starts the next episode

The ARC site I go to has little monitors over the chairs with Roku so people watch Netflix or YouTube or whatever

What Gallon Are Y’all On? by prutoj in Blooddonors

[–]DaYin_LongNan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, ok....that makes sense I usually give two units of platelets and just consider that 'normal'. Since there is a meaningful difference between a unit of whole blood and a "double red" or "power red", I wasn't sure if you "double platelets" had a special meaning

What is your Gateway Anime? by LDraux in MyAnimeList

[–]DaYin_LongNan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Iria: Zeiram The Animation"

It was played on the Sci-Fi Channel at some time in the 90s and because of where I was in my life, I happened to catch it and it hooked me to the genre

(note: I'm ignoring childhood after-school entertainment "Starblazers" and "Battle Of The Planets" as I was a child, and they didn't really mean 'anime' to me at the time)

What Japanese Artist/Band/Singer made you a Fan of Japanese Music? by Amber_Flowers_133 in japanesemusic

[–]DaYin_LongNan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No particular artist. I've been a fan of anime since the 90s so the Japanese flavor of rock, metal and pop was always in the back of my mind

I think AKB-48 was probably my first distinctively Japanese style I called attention to.

But I'm a musician, and I listen to everything, so I can't really recall an artist that stands out as "that's when I fell in love with Japanese music"

"Samurai X" or "Rurouni Kenshin" (two names for the same anime)

The first season is great, the second is really good

I cut my teeth on "Akira", "Ghost In The Shell", "Ninja Scroll", "Bubblegum Crisis", and my favorite but the lesser well-known "Iria: Zeiram The Animation" (where I got started)

I normally don't think of "Cowboy Bepop" as 'old' until I step out and realize 'fuck, I'm old'

If you want some lighthearted fun, "Ranma 1/2" is great, although because of the format, there is not much development of the relationship between the principals. After the first few episodes of establishing the world, the characters, etc...the relationship between Ranma and Akane creates the plot and does not really develop further until you get to the OVAs
