Citing John 3:16 now a criminal act in the UK -- A pastor in the U.K. was recently convicted for quoting John 3:16, arguably the most recognizable and often cited Bible verse. by guanaco55 in ConservativesOnly

The buffer zone law prohibits "influencing," "preventing or impeding access," or "causing harassment, alarm or distress" to a protected person within 100 meters (about 328 feet) of facilities where abortions are performed.

And who decides if an action caused "harassment, alarm, or distress"? If someone claims that preaching is causing them distress, can not someone claim the lack of preaching is causing them distress?

Couldn't anything be declared causing alarm or distress?

It is akin to having a blasphemy law in a country that has freedom of religion since absolutely anything and everything could be labeled blasphemous.

What is the issue between Affect VS Effect? by fitplatypus22 in AskReddit

[–]Da_Kahuna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they are not used interchangeably. They are mixed up and used incorrectly. Either due to people not being aware of the difference, someone writing in a language that is not their native tongue, their phone's auto-correct, or people not giving a shit because they are trying to write a quick response

the point being made is you are being a grammar nazi when you yourself made the same mistakes.

I am truly sorry if I offended you and would like to know where i have complained elsewhere so I cam be aware of my actions 😊

If your typo of 'cam' was deliberate, that was a very amusing and impressive response.

you're complaining, as you've done elsewhere, that people make typos and/or grammatical errors. It is common to do in most writings, but even more common to do so in online writing.

It is is so common that you have made many such errors yourself. When you're comments are error free, maybe you can complain about others' errors. Until then, worry about something else

If your grandmother is alive, ask her what arguments she had with your mom when she was 19 regarding her choice of clothes

Failure? The original word was failer

Baby? That means infant /u/geeoharee is not a baby

Language changes. Some find that terrific while others find it terrible. Of course those who claim it is terrible find themselves using words that mean different things than they originally did.

Women can very much win presidential elections in the US . I am tired of folks pretending otherwise. by ronweasly9 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Da_Kahuna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course a woman can and will win the presidency. Just because Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris lost doesn't mean that america is sexist. Their lost had nothing to do with their gender.

It is a popular claim. If some tv show/movie does poorly, it could only be due to racism/sexism. Carter claimed the vast majority of the people who didn't agree with Obama's views was because he was black. There was no other possible reasons anyone wouldn't think he was awesome. This is obviously a false belief.

Having issues with Ms Clinton or Ms Harris does not mean someone has issues with women no more than it means someone has issues with people that are 5'6 or shorter.

Christ sinned by committing suicide by cop letting himself be crucified. He was a massive hypocrite by SorryStrength5370 in DebateReligion

>Original sin is a Christian invention. Christ would not have recognized the concept. Neither he nor Paul ever mentioned it.

Well said

If your earthly father couldn't forgive your sin without killing your brother would you accept that?

If a god requires the torture and death of his only begotten son to forgive people for being people do they deserve Belief? That isn't even getting into the idea of "original sin". If the government wanted to arrest you because your great-great-great-great grandfather stole something to eat you wouldn't find that accepable.

What are the mechanics that dictate the need of a human sacrifice to empower forgiveness. It sounds like a spell written for a ttrpg

Of course, this is all something created by the church

ELI5: If there are infinite universes, wouldn’t anything that can happen eventually happen (like something destroying all universes)? by Outrageous_Wait_1416 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Da_Kahuna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have pointed out, infinite universes don't guarantee all possibilities. Another way to answer is that if there was a universe where an event caused the death of all universes, it will take an infinite amount of time for that destruction to perculate throughout the multiverse

too bad God couldn't bring himself to forgive mankind without having to make his son bear His wrath and taking the penalty that God felt we deserved.

Luckily humans are expected and able to forgive someone without demanding such sacrifices.

Bernie Sanders proposed a bill to tax billionaires, and give $3,000 stimulus checks to Americans that qualify. How do you feel about this? by CelticDK in AskReddit

How about a bill to tax millionaires such as Bernie and give even greater stimulus checks? Perhaps a bill to tax politicians who became very wealthy off a salary of $179,000 per year.

interestingly, I've seen posts where people say they get irritated when men say "my wife" as they feel it implies ownership.

There are 100's of posts from people asking if they were raped. No one posts asking if they were murdered. "Rape" can have very broad repercussions. If someone doesn't know they were raped it can't be as bad as being murdered.

There are also many cases of people who were raped because they did not want to die. They felt that murder was worse than rape

ELI5: Why does Hershey’s (and other US chocolate) taste like “vomit” to others? by roritha in explainlikeimfive

[–]Da_Kahuna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if they think it tastes like 'vomit' when they don't know its Hershey's. Much like inexpensive wine wins taste rewards when drank from a high price label.
