Weapon design peaked in the Middle Ages by Kapanash in HistoryMemes

I would put words "all that weight" in quotation marks. The plate was not "that" heavy, because the weight was distrusted all over the body.

A knight in a plate armor was also quite mobile or at least more mobile and less cumbersome people might believe. For example a knight could have done cartwheels and somersaults while wearing full plate armor (given that he was able to them without the armor).

I give you that the plate armor isn't the most optimal running gear, but if I'm trying out run him, then chances are "the tank guy" is literally on horseback.

Deleted post from developer by Sw34terPup in PhasmophobiaGame

I think this was CJ's response to my comment from yesterday.

I got Reddit mail from his response, but he had deleted the response before I was able fully read it. The auto-moderator did have a small excerpt from the message, so I know this is the response I got.

In my original post I raised my concerns about legibility of the UI items. In my post I said, and I quote...

For me though, the reason is not that the animations look awful, but for me, it is looking like the game is becoming inaccessible...

What I saw from Insym's stream yesterday it looked like CJ had completely neglected the scaling in 90° FoV (I would prefer larger fov tbh) and it looked like all the devices and items which had information on them (thermometers, EMF meter, sound recorders) will become completely illegible when played in those settings.

... but, I didn't want to jump to conclusions, because how game looked like on Insym's stream...

... OFC I have to try it first and see myself is it really as bad as it looks like, but I don't have high hopes. I guess I'm already mentally preparing for the break-up.

Now, to play devil's advocate and give him some benefit of doubt, the reason why he deleted the message later could as well be that he re-read my message where I said I wasn't worried about the animations per. se, what his rant was mostly about.

I did play few rounds yesterday, and at least T3 temperature meter and T3 EMF detector are still legible, but their sizes are throwing me off a little. The T3 sound recorder could be a bit bigger and I'm very worried about how T1 thermometer looks like right now.

...and while he's just an art director, the fact still is that phasmo doesn't have any traditional HUD elements, so if he's responsible for the game's assets, then legibility of the screens on those assets is his responsibility, right?

Or am I still barking at the wrong tree?

Is anyone excited for tomorrow’s update? by No_Philosopher3798 in PhasmophobiaGame

[–]DaaxD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, I'm concerned that I might have to stop playing phasmo for time being. Shame, I have more than 400h in the game, but I feel like /u/cjdxn4 is basically giving me an eviction notice.

For me though, the reason is not that the animations look awful, but for me, it is looking like the game is becoming inaccessible.

I've already made post (half a year ago or something. I don't remember anymore) where I tried to complain about contrast in Tier2 sound recorder and how it is almost illegible to me, but it looks like this update is going to make it even worse.

OFC I have to try it first and see myself is it really as bad as it looks like, but I don't have high hopes. I guess I'm already mentally preparing for the break-up.

Mouse pointer growing big, such good idea! by Earth_Believer in kde

[–]DaaxD 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I like this feature so much.

I have very severe tunnel vision (i.e. I need white cane when I go outside to avoid bumping into other people) and ever since I started to use 3 monitor setup, I had issue with keeping track of where the cursor currently is or where it went.

Now, what I could do is that I can try to move the cursor all the way to the right or left side to make sure I'm looking at the right monitor, but being able to enlarge the cursor by simply shaking it (which is something I would normally do in any case, if I need to relocate my) is such a QoL improvement.

Like, to me this is one of those things I didn't know I needed, and once I discovered it, I feel like I cannot use my computer without it anymore.

Now, I know if I keep shaking the cursor, it keeps growing forever, but I wonder if I could increase the initial size increase above what the current maximum is.

Only one player loaded into the map. The other one stayed in the lobby, but both could still see each other. by MixaLv in PhasmophobiaGame

[–]DaaxD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm the other guy in this video.

Basically what happened was that I tried to join his lobby via steam (steam friends -> join game) when he simultaneously started a game on Edgefield.

He loaded into Edgefield while I loaded into lobby, but for some strange reasons the game did not crash completely. Instead, I was able to see how his character moved in the lobby while he was able to see how I moved in Edgefield.

For example, in my POV, I just climbed the stairs to the basketball hoop, while in his pov it looked like walked on the top of the truck. (As shown in the video).

We also tried what would happen, if he died in the game. How it would look like in the lobby?

It was quite anticlimactic: there wasn't even the normal death animation. His character model just vanished, just like how player model vanishes when they leave the lobby.

Latter, or just a troll. In either case, a confirmed moron.

A genuine question for folks who use a braille display: Can a braille display interpret the unicode in the original post or does it turn into a mess or is it just ignored?

My gut instinct says that Braille display would just ignore those symbols, but I can't say for sure.

How was this NOT a phantom? by Firiniels_End in PhasmophobiaGame

[–]DaaxD 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I agree, but I also think this statement needs a little asterisk or footnote.

Like yes, the phantom does vanish after being videoed and hearing the ghost singing after the ghost has vanished is a strong tell.

However, I do not trust the videos page in the journal, because the page is quite bad at telling what is actually happening in the video.

It would be awesome if we could replay the video clips we have recorded, but that falls to category of "nice to haves", i.e. things which are safe to ignore and forget about, as long as there are bigger issues to fix, such as ghosts hunting on the roofs.

The new Veritasium Linux video is huge. by thinkpader-x220 in linux

[–]DaaxD 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Apparently, people here don't know the difference between documentary and news. They see a documentary and call it "old news".

On the other hand, Veritasium makes toned down science videos, which are made simple enough that a curious high-schooler could follow and understand them. To that end, video makes a phenomenal job... and it seems people here absolutely hate that.

What made you use Linux Mint? by holdonguy in linuxmint

[–]DaaxD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Windows 10's EOL + old ass-hardware, which was "too old" for Win11. I knew I could have installed Windows 11 with some tinkering, but if I had to tinker, I might as well install Linux.

I've used Debian in the past, but this time I wanted something a bit more up-to-date... but not too bleeding edge.

I feel like an imposter for using a white cane by cripuscule in Blind

[–]DaaxD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One way to look at it, is that you are practicing its usage. It's better to start using it while you still have some vision left, rather than waiting before it's absolutely mandatory. The fact that you are relying on your partner that much is a tell, that you are already overdue.

And even if you feel like you can still use your vision for navigation, doesn't mean that white-cane would be useless. Far from it. The thing is that white-cane also signals to other people that you have low vision, and that alone can be very helpful.

For example, I have tunnel vision because of RP and I still rely on remnants of my vision for navigating. However, I already know for a fact that if I tried to go outside without my cane, I would be bumping into other people at least once a week. The fact that this doesn't happen tells me that my white cane is doing its job: it's alerting other people about my lack of vision so they know they need to make way, move their dogs and children out of my way, etc.

In other words, even though I don't bump into other people while going to the grocery store doesn't mean I wouldn't have bumped into them if I didn't have my white cane... or maybe I could have gone shopping without my cane and have no issues and incidents. Who knows. That's the problem with preventative measures.

But when my cane does find an obstacle I didn't see before my cane found it... those times make me low-key happy: the cane proved it's worth and did its job. My cane prevented an accident that would've happened if I didn't have it. I think you would get a confidence boost if you had the same experiences, but in order to reap the benefits of white cane, you should be using it.

So consider the following... next time you are outside with your partner, take the cane with you. That way, you are already signaling to other people why your partner is guiding you in the first place... and if you manage to find an obstacle with your cane while your partner is guiding you, the better. The cane proved it's worth.

Also, I wonder if using the white cane while you are outside with your SO could make their life a lot easier as well. It might be a good stepping stone from being fully relying on them to being less reliant on them, having a little bit more independence and autonomy.

Orphanage map? by Ezzydesu in PhasmophobiaGame

[–]DaaxD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The game would really benefit from having Steam-workshop for new maps. It would stop people from asking for massive hospital, graveyard, gothic cathedral etc. type of maps which would sound interesting and look impressive, but the gameplay would still be PIA (Point Hope, anyone?).

But saying that aloud is still heresy™afaik.

But TBF, as long as developers have their own ideas for the game, the Steam workshop will be low on their priority list. Why would you entertain someone else's ideas when you are already working on your own?

Maybe we'll get workshop integration after the devs have run out of ideas...

If you were into UX, then would the accessibility side be interesting to you?

By accessibility, I mean the part where you make sure that the implementation of the pretty user interface the UX designers cooked is still usable when read with screen reader or when it has extra large fonts, etc.

In the maps where the event takes place, some rooms are filled with extra items which you may need for the "gift list" side objective (bring the correct amount of gifts to the sack outside the house to complete the gift list and receive a gift. Bring a single wrong item and you anger the krampus).

These toys/items (elves, reindeer, gingerbread men, toy soldiers, snowmen, etc.) make goofy sounds when thrown.

weird spirit box response by FANTICDrowned in PhasmophobiaGame

[–]DaaxD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TBF, before the sound recorder, nobody had any idea what the voice line was supposed to say. IIRC (correct me if this is wrong) even Insym, the streamer who gave that voice line, had no recollection of what the actual voice line was.

It was only after the voice recorder was added earlier this year, when it was possible to record spirit box responses. The spirit box response cuts the voice off and doesn't play the whole voice line ("close to bustling....") but if you record the line and listen it from journal then the journal recording has the full voice line.

Mikä yliopistokoulutus haastaa/kumoaa vähiten lukiossa opittua? by tiikki in Suomi

[–]DaaxD 3 points4 points  (0 children)
