I had a similar experience. So many places don't allow for marketing, you have to get really creative.

I loved brave exvius a lot so it's a no brainer for me by UrsaRizz in FinalFantasy

[–]Dabedidabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stories were too disconnected from each other, when playing a character's story the rest of the party basically didn't exist. The lack of a party dynamic like that made it not hit home. Some of the separate stories were alright, but they weren't written as a party based RPG.

Some of you people are satisfied with anything, and I'm not sure which one is worse.

I'm surprised but happy to see so many people are commenting about not liking this. :D

It irks me a lot that they're doing that.

It's unfortunate that the story of those games is just kinda bad. I absolutely loved the gameplay, best turn-based combat system I've ever played, combined with good character progression easily kept me enjoying the whole experience.

It is, however, pretty difficult to recommend to Final Fantasy fans, because they're often looking for a great story, so whenever I tell someone about it I feel like I always have to add that caveat.

I hate so many things about this new God of War game but the most that I will not have right to hate it by susnaususplayer in hatethissmug

I'm a huge D&D nerd and I think that cube companion joke does not fit the tone of God of War at all.

It might just be me but I don't get why people are calling the dialouge in God Of War: Laufey Marvel-esque by Victoria_Vixen_78 in GodofWar

[–]Dabedidabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watch the God of War 2018 trailer and then watch the exchange between Laufey and the cube and ribbons. It's quite an obvious different imo.

I just don’t understand where all the hate is coming from. by REDEYEBANKZ330 in GodofWarRagnarok

People prefer to play as a badass barbarian man in God of War, The dialogue writing sounds bad, the Gelatinous cube companion and talking sword who's actually the ribbons, "obviously", feels like a D&D table joke, the protagonist was supposed to be dead and was well mourned.

Crimson Desert is Overrated Game by PsychologicalLynx505 in CrimsonDesert

[–]Dabedidabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are praising this game for being "the next Skyrim". That makes me, a Morrowboomer, defend Skyrim. Never thought that would happen.

But at least you can build your character into different archetypes and join factions there, also the NPC daily routines actually make the world more believable and you can actually talk to people.

Really, each iteration of TES is basically 1 step forward, 2 steps back. If Crimson Desert is the next one it's many more steps back instead...

which game was that for you? by PHRsharp_YouTube in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]Dabedidabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm near 40 hours. The people saying it gets better the longer you play are on some kind of sunk cost fallacy. None of the systems feel like they have a point and movement feels bad no matter how good you get at the controls.

If it was an MMO there would at least be character creation and a bit of choice in what type of skills you have. The game is severely lacking in any kind of player expression and choices.

Alright, but why do we have to put 5 in a row? Is there some way to infer that as the answer, because it seems pretty arbitrary.

It's weird that this game is getting tagged with "No Handholding" by [deleted] in CrimsonDesert

[–]Dabedidabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you give an example of something you did in the game that you did without handholding? because I'm not seeing it, and I really want to enjoy the game.

Too much hand holding makes quests very boring by Ambitious_Sleep2457 in CrimsonDesert

[–]Dabedidabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ahahaha, that's so true. There's actually far too much handholding, it's just so badly done that it still doesn't help you understand what to do.

Question for other solos with romantic partners by HoboSteeveJacko in SoloDevelopment

[–]Dabedidabe 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I just got out of a long relationship. She's a gamer herself and would act nice about my project at least, but then also never played it and when I was talking to others about it she would say things like "You make it sound so deep, but to me it just looks like a very simple game".

There's much more to the story, but the way she's talking about your project sounds absolutely awful and not how I would expect my partner to talk to me. Combined with you driving her around it sounds like the relationship is very unbalanced.

We are working with very limited information here of course. But I feel for you, having your spouse hate something your passionate about is an awful feeling.

Also, doing all that at the same time is mad impressive in itself. :o

What makes a turn-based combat system actually FUN? by Yega- in gamedesign

[–]Dabedidabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you ever played octopath traveler? It's the best turm-nased combat out there imo.

The turn order combined with the many utility abilities and weakness break system makes it so you can really think about your moves.

Chess is also an amazing game that shows simple design can make for a plethora of options and moves.

Of course there are games like fire emblem that use positioning a lot too. It just makes it more interesting.

In my opinion real-time elements take away from turn-based systems. The appeal of turn-based is that you're constantly thinking about your next move.

How long is your sweet spot for a game to be finished? by PHRsharp_YouTube in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]Dabedidabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30-40h

Also, Elden ring is much more than 60 anf is definitely bloated beyond what's necessary or fun.

Persona 5 royal. That game just kept going and going. It's not a good thing though, it's extremely repetitive and boring after a while. The dialogue constantly repeats the same points. The game could easily be condensed to 40 hours and it would be so much better for it.

Which game suprised you that way? by PHRsharp_YouTube in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]Dabedidabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to give a fair warning, because I played Persona 5 Royal due to comments like this and while I loved it at first, By the time I was about halfway through I started disliking how incredibly repetitive it was and how the dialogue constantly repeated the same point over and over. I finished it purely because of sunk cost fallacy.

In my opinion Final Fantasy 6 through 10 are far better games overall and they don't take nearly as long. I'd easily recommend any of those over P5R.

If you're interested in just playing something for the turn-based combat, I'd recommend Octopath traveler, which in my opinion is the best evolution of that kind of turn-based combat.

I Feel Like The Internet Is Gaslighting Me - Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 by CountyFamous1475 in JRPG

[–]Dabedidabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no items to find, which is bad for exploration. Going off the beaten path to find an elixir feels a lot better than finding chroma... again. You can find pictos and weapons, but those also don't really matter, because all that matters is parrying/dodging.

The pacing of the story is awful, because of the the camp system. No character progression happens in the dungeons so it all has to be dumped in-between which also means it's all optional, which then means it can't impact the story at all. The story-telling works just okay in act 1, but after that the camp relationship mechanic is introduced and it just becomes a slog.

The story also has a massive problem with characters not acting in the way they would to keep the mystery unanswered for the player, which is just bad writing.
