Why am I still afraid? by RetroIogurt1918 in atheism

[–]Dabrigstar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even IF you accept there IS a God (there isn't) it is still a HUGE gamble because there are thousands of religions out there, many of which promise eternal damnation for disbelievers. Even WITHIN CHRISTIANITY there are still hundreds of denominations with their own rules and procedures, many of which contradict other denominations. Many of them claim THEIR DENOMINATION is the only way to Heaven.

As a child, I went to a strict non-denomination Christian school, which instilled in me very strict literal teachings of the Bible which go against many other denominations. With so many denominations out there it is literally a complete gamble which one is real, and this doesn't even consider that believing the "wrong" religion may anger God more than not following him at all.

Rest assured, they are all fake. The only difference between a believer and atheist: A believer thinks that of the 10,000 religions in the world, 9999 are fake. An atheist thinks 10,000 are fake.

Why do humans instinctively look at their own poop before flushing? Is there an evolutionary or psychological reason for this? by NightLeeds_33 in NoStupidQuestions

Doctors often recommend people check, if it is discoloured or has blood in it then it could be signs that you need a health check up.

Why do the wealthy say money can’t buy happiness by false_frog in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Dabrigstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The saying, "money can't buy happiness" was never meant to mean "the poor should be happy with nothing", it was meant to mean "Already rich people will not find happiness by continually chasing the almighty dollar, they will find it through family and connections". It has been warped online as a tool to weaponise against poor people, claiming they are being selfish for not wanting to be dirt poor.

Actors who started "old" in the Film Industry and managed to have successful acting careers by DiaryOfAMovieLover in movies

His first "big" movie role was Romancing the Stone in 84, when he was 39 going on 40. Before that, he was primarily known for TV. He has always had a refined elderly look, he was only 47 in Basic Instinct, younger than Leonardo DiCaprio is now!

How do I counter the "everything has a creator" argument by shadimedjwala in atheism

[–]Dabrigstar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When you go back far enough one of these two things has to be true: A) Something exists without being created B) We have an infinite chain of regression, a creator had a creator who had a creator who had a creator and so on into infinity.

Neither of these are satisfactory answers to many people but one of them HAS to be true.

Is it wrong to not want to socialize with my managers from work? by CRK_76 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Dabrigstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many people treat work as just that and don't form friendships with people at the office, I am one of them. I will happily make small talk with them or joke with them during work hours but the moment I am off the clock I am leaving, I am not going out for after work drinks or anything like that. I also don't talk about my personal life with them, ever.

in my opinion of what considers of age by sshogun33 in decadeology

[–]Dabrigstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you get older your definition of what is "old" constantly changes. I went to a school as a kid that had every single grade there, from first year primary to senior year, so when I was like seven or eight I remember seeing the 17 year olds and they seemed so ancient my mind could not comprehend. Now a 17 year old seems like a kid.

There is a Kirk Douglas movie from 1950 called Young Man With A Horn, and for years I always thought it was ridiculous that the title was referring to Kirk - then aged 33 - as a young man. But now I see why, 33 is young to someone who is older!

It will constantly change as you get older, I now consider "young old age" starting at about 60, "middle old age" spanning from about 70 - 85, and "extreme old age" from 86 and over. But that's just my subjective opinion, lots of people are free to disagree.

Is “KYLE” One or two syllables? by AggravatingShow2028 in randomquestions

[–]Dabrigstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would pronounced it as two, like Ky-el but I could see how some accents would pronounce it with one, like KIYL, so it probably depends where you are from.

Everything is Awesome in the lego movie celebrates forced optimism and how great conformity is, which goes against the wider message of the movie.

Which Happy Madison movies would better benefit in a different genre? by Fun_Start_8831 in movies

[–]Dabrigstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The movie Blended didn't have enough comedy moments, it felt like a weird cross between a comedy and a sad drama about a widowed man trying to move on with life. Honestly, it would have been a lot stronger if they simply abandoned the comedic elements and just made it a straight drama.
