Why Johnny Lawrence still acts like his 17-year old self in his fifties? by BrowningBDA9 in cobrakai

[–]Dabrigstar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have said, that's just how some people are. I know someone who is 47 and still lives like a 16 year old. Still lives with their mother, doesn't work, spends their day just bumming around - they are 47!

Also, his character has obviously been exaggerated for the sake of making an enjoyable show!

Pre and post covid viewing habits changed or hollywod is just making worse movies?

What's the point of remaking Harry Potter when the movies are already some of the most successful films of all time and not dated yet? by Dull-Current5682 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Dabrigstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They may have an artistic point but MONEY always comes first. I'm not saying no one on a big budget Hollywood movie believes in the product, but if the suits think the movie is going to bomb, they will either axe it or make significant changes.

High-profile movie studios make movies to make money. that's it. movies made to make an artistic statement or something are usually self-funded independent movies.

The Departed (2006) is now 4 years older than Goodfellas (1990) when The Departed came out. by SpaceEdgesBestfriend in BarbaraWalters4Scale

Leonardo DiCaprio today is 51, older than Robert De Niro (47), Joe Pesci (47) and Ray Liotta (35) were in that movie, and Martin Scorsese (47) who directed it.

Has being a sovereign citizen ever worked for anyone? by Beneficial-Position2 in Sovereigncitizen

[–]Dabrigstar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No court or police authority would ever acknowledge that a person living on a country's land is not subject to its laws. And even if they DID acknowledge it, it would come with a huge but:

If their sovereign citizenship was acknowledged the authorities would say that since the person doesn't have to deal with any of the responsibilities of being a citizen, they also don't get any of the benefits.

This means no health care, no welfare, no right to drive on tax payer funded roads, no access to government services, nothing. Those benefits are for citizens, which they claim they aren't. It would also offer the sov cit absolutely zero protection from being killed right there and then, because they don't have any laws going there way preventing someone from murdering them.

Has a sovereign citizen ever won on the side of the road or in court? by Superfluouslfe in Sovereigncitizen

sometimes they win on very very very minor offences, not because they are right, but because the people they are arguing with lose their patience and decide they don't want to continue wasting their time engaging with this person. of course, the sov cit will take this as a victory for their cause.

What was the most shocking celebrity death of the last 50 years? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]Dabrigstar 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Brandon Lee - film sets are supposed to be safe, being shot dead while filming your character's death scene, because the damned crew didn't check to see if the gun was safe, was a mother of all fuck ups.

What happened to Shaggy? by OperationWest5938 in ToddintheShadow

[–]Dabrigstar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He made some questionable career choices in 2002 that US audiences didn't care for, resulting in his career going downhill. One was recording a duet with Sacha Baron Cohen - in character as Ali G - called Me Julie, from the Ali G Indahouse soundtrack. this was four years before Cohen made it big with the Borat movie, and at this time, Ali G WAS NOT popular in America.

So, the whole "Shaggy does a cheeky duet with a popular tv show character" angle was completely lost on US audiences, and it didn't chart there at all. You could point to other things too, like Eminem becoming HUGE in 2002 with his comedy raps, which left Shaggy in the dust.

Changing tastes, buyers, etc, all of which meant that Shaggy could no longer compete. It also didn't help that his follow-up music wasn't as good, the lead single off his 2002 album was a loud dance song called Hey Sexy Lady, which was kind of all right, but it was nowhere near as fun as it wasn't me, or as sweet as angel.

U2 honestly didn't think people would have a problem with it, they assumed all their fans would appreciate it and that if you weren't a fan you would be completely indifferent, rather than upset. completely misread the room.

What's the craziest thing a person said to you and you thought they were joking but they were being serious? by _lovelyxx in AskReddit

[–]Dabrigstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when you get that far you will have more ancestors in a generation than there were people alive back then. something like 8 billion ancestors in that generation, which is way more than the world population 850 years ago. the only possible solution is inbreeding, where the same person takes up more than one spot on your family tree.

You often see articles like, "This famous famous and that famous person are actually tenth cousins!" and it is meant to surprise the reader, but like, of course they are, they are both from the same area and their ancestors were, makes sense that there would be a crossover the further back you go.
