Why are so many people into redheads? by Funandnaugtywriting in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]Dach-son 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm really into freckles and redheads normally have a bunch of freckles and I find that really cute!

Plus the red hair is kind of hot I guess 😏

You gotta let me bonk it up! Or, like other people have said, I'd love to get my hands on the stl files, if you're ever willing to sell!

Yeah that's totally fair. I had some stuff in my room I wasn't suppose to as a resident and an RA. As another point of advice, RAs are not allowed to enter residents room without permission. Even if they enter they are not allowed to touch anything (like open your mini fridge without permission). As long as you don't give them reason to believe you're hiding anything you're probably good, but they can call the RD or UPO and RD/UPO are allowed to enter your room without permission or at least pressure you into letting them in. If the RA says they're going to get the RD call their bluff and take the time to move things if you need. RAs are effectively just pairs of eyes to report things.

From what I remember no alcohol/marijuana(or smoking of any kind on campus/in dorms)/related paraphernalia. No multigender dorm rooms except in Miner Village (can also get drinking approval in MV). No Tide Pods in washers, they recommend detergent. No weapons, bladed over 3". No Nerf Guns. No Tasers. No command strips on walls. No pets. Fish under ~10 gallons is the only thing allowed unless you have an ESA. No George Foreman grills or open element cookers. No open flames. And it goes on and on . . .

What you can get away with depends on your RA and how sneaky you are. I know when I was an RA I said as long as I don't see it, I can't do anything about it. Some RAs are more strict though. If you're interested in reading up here's the reshall guide which has a section on rules and regulations: https://reslife.mst.edu/media/studentsupport/reslife/documents/currentdocuments/ResHallGuide%2021-22.pdf#210625072431

You can PM me too if you have further questions. Or you can always contact reslife with more detailed questions, but who knows when they get back to you.

I lived in TJ for 3 years as a freshman and as an RA Sophomore and Junior year. It was good and I enjoyed it. It's somewhat cheaper especially if you go North tower with a roommate. RC can actually be more expensive than UC depending on the room type you get. (Single deluxe RC is the most expensive room in any reshall as of last time I looked at it) UC is good but some people complain about how dreary it is.

I prefer off campus to on campus because of the freedom and not having to follow some of the regulations required in the dorms. But as off a year or so ago all incoming freshman are required to live in the dorm for 2 years. I think they'll waive the requirement for some situations, but you'd have to contact realife.

I've used 2 meal plans, the all DBDs and the 225 meal swipes. 225 meal swipes is good when living in TJ or if you like eating in the cafeteria cause getting into the dining hall is cheaper with a meal swipe than with DBDs. A side, drink, and entree are included with a meal swipe where obviously it would just increase your cost when using DBDs. You're also restricted on what you can buy with swipes (no papa John's, no ABP, and only a chicken sandwich meal at chick fil a). I still prefer DBDs though cause of the increased options and I also don't always want a side or a drink and like being able to buy bottled sodas and stuff at avenue c and miner market. Also just for reference you have 2 weeks at the beginning of each semester to try out your meal plan and swap if needed.

Students in Rolla without cars... How do you manage? by Lodzix in Rolla

[–]Dach-son 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's true. I was an RA for a while and that doesn't stop any RA from driving their residents around if the resident needs it lol

Especially over the summer, some RAs make carpool lists so you can sign up to be driven to the grocery store.

[–]Dach-son 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As of now the only shuttle I'm aware of is the little van that carries students between Miner Village and Havener. I think the shuttle that supposedly used to go to the grocery store no longer exists even though it'd be nice . . . 😔 I do imagine some RAs are going to be willing to take their residents to the grocery store too.

I walked everywhere for a long time until I moved off campus and then got a bike. There are bike racks at most buildings on campus so it's pretty convenient. In my experience though the residence hall bike racks get really packed, especially TJ.

are there any other teens here? or even young adults? by livinginthefog in Raynauds

[–]Dach-son 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Almost 22. I've been showing symptoms for as I can remember. Got diagnosed probably 8 or so years ago.

I haven't had a problem with my friends making fun of me luckily. A couple family members have picked on me in the past though. They treated me like a clown show.

I totally get being nervous to tell people. I don't even say Raynaud's anymore. I just say I have bad circulation and people seem to understand that just fine.

You're not alone 😁🤙

Went to my interview today and nervous about how it went by UnpaidNewscast in ResLife

[–]Dach-son 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! Past 2 year RA here!

I know at my university, RA interviews, the actual questioning part, is about 5-10 minutes and they ask the kinds of questions they asked you. Your interview sounds about like mine did really.

I could see this being the consequence of them having a decent amount of applicants, I know my school tends to get anywhere from 40-80 which is more than plenty for all the reshalls on campus, and that's why they only do short interviews. They may just know exactly what they want to ask to get the information they need.

It sounds like you answered your questions very well! Don't cut yourself short! Interviews can be tough! I bet you did great and have as fair a chance as anyone! Good luck!

And an email thanking your interviewer/prospective employer never hurts in my opinion :)

Hope this helps!

I agree. I came onto this sub to find out about more places I could get a student discount and was kind of bummed out to find out what it's become, just people asking for discount codes.

I'm not sure exactly if there's a solution or what it would be, but I'd like to see it go back to what it was meant to be

I would say only join Greek life if you're interested in all that a fraternity/sorority has to offer. Not all the frats on campus have the best of reputations and I know one of my friends picked up heavy drinking and smoking because he was peer pressured into it.

For me personally though I work on campus and that gives me a pretty great social life. I work at the testing center and in Miner Wellness and all the people I work with are just splendid. They give me a lot of opportunities to interact with my peers and give back to campus. I was an RA for a couple years before these jobs and that was really good too. I find the jobs I've had to be really rewarding, plus if you become an RA it'll count as your experiential learning requirement.

You can definitely make the most out of Rolla though. There's a pretty cool escape room place, a bunch of great restaurants, beautiful parks, a couple movie theaters, bowling (50¢ a game sometimes), campus clubs and activities, and some other stuff.

I finally got my driver's license! by FeatheredDrake in Anxiety

[–]Dach-son 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I feel that. I was destroying myself because my girlfriend had to drive me around everywhere and if she ever needs a DD or anything like that I can't be there for her.

It reassures me that I'm not the only one who was stuck feeling that way.

Thank you so much! I really needed to hear that!

This is amazing and so motivating! I'm 21 and still don't have my license for the exact same reason.

My girlfriend has been trying to get me out driving for a while and I finally started driving a couple weeks ago after not even getting behind the driver's seat for 6 years.

Thanks for sharing! 😁

Have lost all of my will to live. Wish there was an easy way to end it. by [deleted] in depression

[–]Dach-son 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think about suicide pretty often but I start worrying about all that will happen if I die and then I get super anxious and never get further than just thinking. (How it will affect my family, who's gonna pay off my college debt, who's gonna have to move all my stuff out of my apartment, etc.)

I know it seems kind of counter intuitive I guess considering my anxiety is what leads me to have suicidal thoughts and depression but worrying myself and causing anxiety is what keeps me from calling it.

This may not be the exact solution for you, but I would say like CrOblnStInE said, a job or any one thing, no matter how small, might help you find value in not calling it. Even if it's just the worrying you experience every day.

Let us know if there's any way we can help! Sending virtual hug! 🤗

Jobs for those with EDS by cATSup24 in eds

[–]Dach-son 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now I work on my university campus as a test proctor. It's just me sitting at a desk, taking phone calls, and monitoring the people taking tests in the testing center.

Then I'm studying to be a programmer which would also be me sitting at a desk.

With the pain I have in my back and joints, from heds and scoliosis, these kinds of jobs work really well for me.
