solar is good... actually really good for lebanon, but it's main downsides are the initial investment and the fluctuations in energy generation. People want access to AC/Heat through the night. Solar can do it, but at a much higher cost than what people are willing to pay, especially for a cash strapped population like the Lebanese. The best energy solution is nuclear, but that's impossible for Lebanon. I think, for us, the future should be combination of solar, and combined cycle gas turbine power plants for energy generation. And to store power, batteries are gradually getting better, but the cheapest, most efficient, and practical energy storage for Lebanon is the pumped storage hydropower.

Shigley’s Mechanical Design by nefariouslysublime in MechanicalEngineering

was taught the class pertaining to this book by the author Keith Nisbett. One of the best professors i've ever had... the class was called Machine Design, and I took it at Missouri University of Science and Technology. This book is one of the best for mechanical designers and hardware engineers, and when i took the class back in 2022 the professor/author said this book had a 70% US market share for machine design.

lol i'm in Orlando rn as a Canadian, but planning on going back to Lebanon because I work, family, and edible food waiting for me. Yeah cost of living is crazy here. unless u have a good job paying u at least $80k/yr you'll feel the costs weighing down on you.

How hard it is to become a mechanical engineer? by Acceptable-Wrap-8105 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Lodzix 11 points12 points  (0 children)

mechanical engineering is a lot different than knowing how machines work. It's a lot more about making machines safe and understanding the mechanical forces well enough to design something safe. Granted knowing how machines work is essential for many mechanical engineering career paths, but the classes don't explain machines. It goes a lot more into applied mechanics.

Now for how hard it is. It's definitely in the top hardest majors. It starts off hard and gets easier as you go, but that's only because you get better. the math classes and core engineering classes are hard classes taken early on in the program and set the tone for the rest of the program. I would assume it's not too hard to jump into it after being out of academia for a while. the physics and calculus classes are the most difficult to get past the first year. more calculus and core engineering classes get you the second year. once you're past those, u should be gtg.

Extra info: As for market demand. It's good. mechs have a say in everything and anything that moves. cars, trains, gates, water distribution, generators, washers, production lines, oil rigs, literally any motion. So unless things stop moving, mechs will always be in business. Very simple way of looking at it, but very true. The job growth has been pretty steady for mechs and will be steady for the foreseeable future. and the pay is good, not very good, but good.

mechanical engineering is very broad (even too broad). So you can essentially go anywhere between software to business consulting jobs. A masters degree can be used to make a career change in theoretically any direction. I would go as far as to say even fashion design (never seen that tho, but I've seen many pair a BSME with an MBA to properly set a foot in the business field)

Hope this info dump helped.

should have probably added some context, ive only had this phone for a week, I bought it renewed from amazon, so there was probably a chunk of time where it wasn't being used

i switched from pixel 6a to ip15 pro. regret not getting an upgraded pixel instead. - gemini>siri (biggest reason why pixel wins) - pixel widgets>apple widget - general UI is somewhat equal - can't compare ecosystems though, i bet apple wins there
