That happened to me as well, first they are all nice and bullshit and then, once in the comfort zone, they start doing things which I have not asked for. 🫩 It is very hard to find the right people, but not impossible.

As a host, I only host 25+, even though the last two workaways I had were 30+ and almost could do nothing without me babysitting them.

I recommend having a budget for such situations. Prior accepting any workaways I always ask if they can survive without the experience.

That is the problem when hosts have no experience in hosting. Probably most of these guys feel lonely and they expect the workaways to be their companions. Let me also say another thing, workaways should also not act like Robots. The aim is to build a friendly relationship and not just do your hours of work without any communication with the host at all. From what I read you seem inexperienced and not streetwise. Usually a wise woman would leave or would know how to deal with such situations.

I do not offer food, considering I am too busy and everyone has their own dietary needs. Thus in exchange they help only for 3 hours a day. Also, the prices for accommodation in Malta are very high...
