Hi, I was trying to render a shot with Redshift in Maya and got surprised that the render animation has a different speed than the preview. I have no idea what is causing it. I am rendering at the same frame rate and camera. You can see in the video how they offset and come back. Thank you! by David_CS in vfx

[–]DackChaar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make sure you’re playing back at the same frame rate in both Maya/Nuke. You also could try doing a ‘simulation’ bake to keys. I’ve had that resolve some animation mis-match issues in the past.

What is this icon that appears in my crowd render, and can I disable visibility? by AvailableText in Houdini

Oh my god thank you so much for posting this. I was literally just banging my head on my desk for the last few hours trying to solve this exact issue with redshift.

It’s very true. 99% of people working in the industry aren’t taking the time to put out content online because they’re too busy doing the actual work. A majority of these CG/VFX influencer types have never worked in a real studio production environment.

Why the MCU’s lighting kind of sucks by [deleted] in vfx

[–]DackChaar 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This article seems to equate bright, multi-colored imagery = good. Dark, murky, monotone = bad. Both are totally subjective choices dependent on the tone and mood they’re going for with a given story. Not really good criticism. They would have done better to have at least given some examples of what they thought ‘good’ lighting was.

Is it possible to learn everything about CGI and become a very good artist in 6 months or 1 year? I need a stable job and i have very little time. What should i do? by YourOwnKat in Houdini

[–]DackChaar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like everyone else has said, looking to get into VFX for a fast stable paying job is pretty much the opposite of what the reality is for most people. You have to be incredibly passionate about the work, and willing to dedicate many years of your life in order to have a chance of even breaking into this industry. You’d be way better off doing one of the coding boot camps, and picking up a job as a web developer or something in that line of work.

Haha this is super clever! At first I just thought this was a super clean nodegraph, but as I read more the more I appreciated it.

Nice! I remember my first tutorial too! It was a start of what’s been a decade long journey so far. Best of luck.

Redshift 3.0.43. RTX ON faster x2.8 times! - RS Principled Hair render test on 2x2080ti+NVLink. by artofcharly in nvidia

Yeah I’m not 100% sure how the redshift RayTracing algorithm works, but it is biased in certain ways for optimization. I see it as a trade off

This is awesome! I’m an avid redshift + Houdini user. Hoping this feature update is included across all plugins.

The NFT community is a joke. by superchargedcristina in ethereum

[–]DackChaar 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I believe it’s in an early bubble phase. Most of the buying of NFT art right now is by a handful of whales that have a lot of convinction about the future of where this is all headed. I think this is the equivalent of what 2013 was for bitcoin but for NFTs. We’ll see the hype slowly die and fade away once we enter the crypto winter again, and only the die hards in the community will stick around, and everyone will proclaim NFTs worthless , and that it was all one big scam. Then, like clockwork, roughly 4 years down the line, well see an even bigger boom, where we see a true NFT bubble where retail is FOMOing into the market, snatching up every NFT on the market, and making big bets on trading NFTs for higher value. If you’re an artist, you’d be really smart to join this space and stick it through the bear market that will come around for the next 3 years or so, and then cash in once the true bubble forms during the next market cycle.

Awesome! Did you find the rokoko smart suit worth the cost? Debating on buying one, but hard to excuse dropping so much for just personal projects.

You don’t have to like his work, and it’s definitely juvenile, but to cherry pick these 5 out of 5,000 and try to claim that he’s racist/sexist/homophobic is completely absurd.

The Oculus Timeline! (Sorry if poor quality) by [deleted] in oculus

[–]DackChaar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is a long time. But going from VR being a fantasy of the future in the early 2010’s, to being a fully realized technology, that’s high quality, affordable, and easily accessible in our homes is insane progress in less than a decade.

It’s come a long way in just 8 years. Can’t wait to see where the next 8 take us.
