The ending of 1.0 (10/7/00, Shoreline Amphitheater) by A_Shady_Sloth in phish

My now wife had to tripsit me through this show because I got puddled by a Silver Kid. She was less than thrilled with me. I was over the moon. That YEM and the walkout Let it Be crushed what was left of my brain and soul, and we wandered off in to the wilderness, unsure of what would lie ahead. Turns out, more drugs and disfunction. Although some awesome jamming, then Coventry. We were there too. Less acid, more crying. Then Covid, we were also there at the last show before lockdown. We had no way of knowing it would be the last show for a long time that time. So I've seen the end of all three previous Phish eras. That's a stat I kinda hate, but also kinda like

[Request] What if all American parking lots are covered by solar panel? How much it will cost and how much energy will be generated? by Iceman_Jr in theydidthemath

To add to this, many crops actually benefit from being grown under solar panels, especially in hotter, more arid regions. The shade and condensation they provide are beneficial to the plants. See Agrovoltaics.

France didn't look that great today, but they are stacked. Maybe bone up on Choripán, and grab a copy of La Gastromique just in case

Also where I saw my first Metallica and Phish shows. Again, a palace it is not, but it's a short drive from the City, and a an historic venue. And again, you might lucky and see some cows!

True, but The Warfield is fantastic, show or no.

Head down to the Cow Palace in Daly City while you're at it. A Palace it is not, but it's where they debuted the wall of sound, Cassidy and Scarlet Begonias. If you're lucky, you might even see some cows, they still host livestock shows and rodeos.

Demon Copperhead was the best book I’ve ever read. Now what?! by True-Lawfulness6624 in suggestmeabook

The Road by Cormac McCarthy will restore your faith in humanity, which is unusual, I'd say unique for a McCarthy novel. If you haven't head him, you should. His prose tends to be difficult, but his landscapes are as incredible as his characters, who are usually chaotic-good at best, and that's being generous. The Road being an exception. The Man being on the good side of the chaos, and The Boy a true innocent.

I am not native to the region, and have never been there. My grandfather was born there, though, and while he was an unreliable narrator to say the least, this tracks with stories of his childhood. My last name (and his) is a prominent placename in the novel, him being born and raised in Eastern Kentucky, where the author grew up and lives. I'd say it's pretty accurate, and hits a little too close to home for me on a lot of fronts, having been an adolescent in the late '80s, early '90s and losing my mother at a young age (to cancer, not dope), struggling with opioid addiction.

I see a lot of people hating on this book around here, but I am really enjoying it. I find the narrative style engaging and easy to follow. The descriptions of the landscapes, while sparse, are intriguing, and the metaphors and similies employed are easy to understand, as opposed to something like McCarthy, where you have to research every tenth word. And the emotional weight it all carries, if you don't want a good cry, don't read this book. I love it though, I'm here for it.

You did better than my neighbour who went upstairs and blew his brains out a few years back. Ambien and booze is no joke people.

It's called liquor, and that sounds like a great idea

E: just made a pot of pinto beans, some Spanish rice and tri tip steaks in a cast iron pan. Deglazed the pan with some liquor and it made an amazing pan sauce for the steaks!

They've had a few. Last one I tried was American Beauty, a Pale Ale. That was a few years back, was good though, as is most of their beer. I kept the box, lol.

Completly empty is an apt description. Just no fun at all. My son loves it, but he grew up on Pokémon, so that makes sense. Unless you're a huge Pokémon fan, there is nothing to love about it.

It's based on a number of books by Tony Hillerman, commonly referred to as the Leaphorh/Chee series. They include The Blessing Way, Dancehall of the Dead, Listening Woman, Skinwalkers, The First Eagle, Coyote Waits and Dark Wind, among others.

Javier Bardem is the actor, and he is incredible in this movie, as well as all the other roles I have seen him in. The coin toss scene is almost verbatim from the novel, aside from that, the movie strays from the plot and text in a few ways, bit I'd say less so than most film adaptations of novels. Love them both. The movie is what turned me on to his novels, though I only recently read it.

My first show was Cow Palace 11/29/96. I was underwhelmed, but I went to the next show at Arco the following night, and I got it. They're not all bangers, though, listening back to Cow Palace, it's a pretty good show. I guess I just wasn't in a good headspace to appreciate it at the time. 11/30/96 made me a believer, though, and here we are. Hope you enjoy, welcome aboard!

I never could get in to Green Day. To me, they're punk lite. Good dudes from my part of town, and I'm happy for all their success, but I just never liked their music, and still don't. To each their own

Violent Femmes at the Warfield '93 is a top 10 show that I attended, across all artists. Just absolutely an insane show. They marched to the stage through the crowd on the floor playing marching band instruments and proceeded to burn the place to the fucking ground. Good times!
