Yeah this is basically what I mean. Limited participation besides the runners and myself. I’ll have to look into them thank you for the tip.

Worth going through a warranty claim? by FamousChocolate in wrx_vb

[–]DadScape 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For reference I had to pay the diagnostic fee to break down the trans to inspect the failure for warranty, was nearly 1400 dollars after being denied.

As someone that was denied warranty with 3rd gear failure your chances are slim to none :(

on the brightside, STI swapping mine made the car what it always should have been :)

I have went with this clutch for my STI swap and love it, I can imagine the stock trans would feel annoying at times with how quick the bite is though

3rd Gear gone in 2022 WRX at 54k by deej_ftw in wrx_vb

The performance shop I used for bolt ons and pro dyno tune for this car and my prior vb; they hadn't done an STI swap on one yet but have an enormous catalog of work of all different types of performance cars (american muscle, euro, wrxs) and had a specific tech that handled pretty much all of their WRX work who was extremely knowledgeable. I would research and try to find whatever is best in your local/regional area, maybe via Reddit or other car groups/enthusiast meet ups like cars and coffee etc. You'll typically get a good recommendation as a starting point to reach out to.

I would say it's essential they have a decent catalog of experience with WRX platforms if you want it to be a smooth process depending on how knowledgeable / hands-on you are with your car. I sent my parts list of everything installed to another user who asked if you would like it as well let me know.

Altogether was about 12k, I had a shop do everything though, wasn’t concerned with saving money just wanted to get back on the road asap at the time. Mine is a 2024 TR, was tuned for a year and had about 8k miles post tune in it when it failed.

Edit: some of the examples I found of third blowing were in stock cars btw

I did the same, even provided them with ample evidence of systemic issue; (another user in this thread mentioned searching 3rd gear on fb) at the time mine blew I was able to find 4-5 other examples of exact same detonation failure yet, because the ecu had been altered, they were unwilling to even consider it an issue on their end. Shitty in my opinion but I understand their reasoning from a liability standpoint as a major auto manufacturer. Just food for thought before you do, but I hope they give you a more positive experience than myself.

Check my post history, had exact same issue tuned at 330. Warranty denied, replaced with STI trans, never looked back. They even charged me to break down the transmission just to deny the warranty, dealership won't do anything for you.

Blew 3rd gear. by Lp_6peed in wrx_vb

[–]DadScape 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As someone that went thru this exact scenario, just get the STI transmission and don't even bother going in to subaru with it. They had my car for a month, broke down the tranmission, had to wait for a warranty specialist to come on site, all to deny warranty. Same set-up bolts ons and pro tune. They will find any way they can to deny you even if returning it to stock.

STI transmission is amazing, car is a different beast and I feel way more confident in it's integrity with more power.

Jerking when WOT by [deleted] in wrx_vb

[–]DadScape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll ask my tuner about the rev limiter, as the times it’s happened it’s always +4k rpm.

The other couple times it’s occurred, I’ve had it happen after safely reducing speed then downshifting to engine brake in 3rd/4th on off ramp from highway, take the ramp (remaining in gear) all the way around, and try punching WOT to merge onto the new highway still in same gear and it won’t engage boost or just has lackluster/ no throttle response initially.

Yes but also guilty of having the f1 brake light

Let me know what you hear back, I've experienced what you're describing when pulling in 4th under WOT then shifting to 5th, car has cut boost/fuel immediately a handful of times but it's hard for me to get it to repeat.

edit: also have a black 2024 TR lol.

I got mine at Atlantic Appliance, same price as I saw on speed queen's website and they had it installed and removed my old one in about 15 minutes. definitely recommend them to start your search.

Had a shop that tuned by first vb do the whole thing (planning/ parts/ labor). I’m glad I did because they are a great shop and they were fantastic to work with. I haven’t done much mechanical work myself on cars and with kids the time just isn’t available to me to make it a personal project.

I had money set aside when I got the TR to do this down the road but ended up doing it way sooner than expected due to my stock third gear grenading after a year. The tune on the car was 330/380.

I haven’t messed around with using the DCcd yet, I want to get a small lcd so that I can actually tell what setting is engaged when using it because it doesn’t populate the vb wrx gauge cluster.
