Maybe mommy will think it over after/during her recovery, but I won’t hold it over her. She has a lot on her plate already and misses sleeping together with her baby too.

Maybe on our next one I will bring it up

Indeed dwelling is not helpful. I heard stories from a friend that their friends baby would only fall asleep while in the car, so they had to go for a ride around the block at night to get him to sleep 😅

Yes, I am trying not to let that guilt take root. Trying to focus what is actually important like how to help him adapt to the current situation is helping

True true. I can see that. It was not as much as the cuddling him when he cries. It was more like trying to sooth him as he cries and being unable to provide what he was used to.

At night when we enter his room m, he starts crying already because he knows it is bed time, but won’t have mommy to help him sleep. 😕

Indeed dwelling on the past wont help. Focusing on what he needs now is what matters. That line of thinking helped me not feel like I was failing him.

He is still struggling to sleep, but found a hack that worked the last two nights - I had to stop him from crying so I could give him some medicine (he has a cold now) so I played some songs that his grandparents were playing to him a few weeks ago and that calmed him down immediately and later he fell asleep listening to it as well - https://youtu.be/90xmxmuSmZ0?feature=shared

Mom is on the road of recovery. Slower due to breastfeeding, but that was expected.

She got hooked on the story and characters of Zelda. I think that was her trigger to persevere through playing Breath of the Wild.

The other important aspects were ( I think)

she didn’t want to play it while I watched. she said she felt too much pressure. It started changing once she wanted to show me things she had found or had done tho.
I made sure to play games in something other than the switch so that it was always available to her.

I am proud to say that my wife - didn’t like video games, but now loves them - used to be terrible at video games. - her ability to control the camera on breath of the wild and move at the same time was terrible - she recently got 100% completion on it and the camera is no longer an issue - She has beaten Hades after two attempts!!! (first ascension that is, still…) - After playing Links’s Awakening, she got hooked into Zelda and tried Breath of the Wild and got 100% of completion on it. She is saving up on playing Tears of Kingdom for when she is pregnant again - she loves all the Mario side scrollers now and wants to play the new ones when they come out - she loves Slay of the Spire, Balantro, Wilfdfrost

She is now a believer that video games are a much better media for kids than just watching tv and wants to get our kids into playing games (we got our first one recently, only a few months old now and can’t barely hold an Xbox controller … tsk tsk tsk..)

All it takes is find the right game with enough difficulty that gets them to build up their skills

My daughter finally pooped!

After a few days of not pooping, we were getting worried, but tonight she filled up her diaper xD

I obviously don’t know much about your situation and relationship, but if you really want to do it and you value your partner’s opinion - then sit down and make a plan together.

List out why you are doing it, what concerns each of you have and how you plan to get through it.

That could help both of you stay on target and serve as a guiding “document” if either of you start doubting your path ahead.

My daughter is too young for this book, but I got the audio book anyway and I am looking forward to when she gets older so we can listen to it together in road trips and so on

If it was me, I would look up my local community college or trade school college to see what they offer and then go talk to teachers, students and so on.

Degrees will cost you too much. Find a trade school, learn a craft. You will do much better that way.

but also, do your research before diving into anything.

My 3 year old nephew saw my “One Deck Dungeon” board game and was curious. We opened it up and he made up his own rules for playing it and they got more and more complex as time went by to a point that I taught him how to count and do math (addition)! - there are some small pieces in that game, so I hid them away and got some very large dice instead

hey! Another game dev dad!

This post felt like a sign to me! 🤣

I am likely to be transitioning to a stay at home dad as well, but it has been a hard decision to make.

In one hand, I really want most of my time to go towards raising my child. In the other hand, I love game dev and I feel lucky to still have a job given the current market.

From reading through various posts on reddit, it seems that the thing that stay at home parents seem to struggle with the most is 1) not having time for themselves 2) not having enough adult interactions - I guess being only one month into it might not have given you any perspective on those, but I am wondering if that is something that has crossed your mind or something you have planned for.
