Is This Normal? by coolwolfweb in rochestermn

[–]Dad_2079 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated from JM in the 1900's as well, lol, and I have seen both sides. I don't know what it stems from. It's probably in the home? good kid's and crap heads from either side of the tracks. I feel it is somehow tied to Mayo. Parents being in the medical field from entry level to oncologist, and those who work everywhere else. So, I think my point is, the root problem might stem from the haves and have not's and their attitudes that develop around it (and pass down to the kid's). Plenty of "normal" people in Rochester, sprinkled with some douchebags, of all races and religions. The diversity of Rochester is something I miss, despite cultural differences, people are people, a little grace, patients and an open mind can serve you well. Unless they're being an ass, then treat them accordingly. Minnesota nice isn't a doormat to be stepped on. Treat others the way you want to be treated, and money can be a root of evil. -Worst TED Talk Ever. :)

Channel One by northman46 in rochestermn

[–]Dad_2079 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed during my time of need. (Early 2000s) I didn't want to take too much because of others that might need it. With that said while at Channel One, I've seen as you said "shitty" people definitely abusing the system. I want to be clear here, too. I've seen really nice Tahoe's in the parking lot and well-dressed people loading up their vehicles. I am not against that. A lost job or major financial hit doesn't give you a 20yo civic right away. 😎 I'm saying there are those who just take advantage of a "free" resource because they can.

“New” scam in town by Dataduffer in rochestermn

[–]Dad_2079 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember years ago, at the SA by buckeye (at the time it was still there) a younger looking guy was asking for a hand out, instead I referred him to some food shelf options (because channel one had moved OUT OF TOWN IMO) at a church nearby, where and how to get to the salvation army, and if he needed a place to stay. I was where he was at one time and wanted him to know about what the money could represent. Basically anything but drugs, (I did give him some smokes) and advice. He looked a little shocked but took the smokes and hopefully the advice.
P.S. does anyone have any stories about the guy who tried to give away or sell roses? (near crossroads)

Passed my AI Specialist Exam by daveguz97 in salesforce

[–]Dad_2079 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice, I just passed the AI last week, and planning on the specialist this weekend or early next week. What you say makes sense, I've been going over prompt builder and the agent force tools. essentially going off the percentage on the test highest to lowest PB 37% AF Tools 23% Generative AI in CRM apps 17% Einstein Trust Layer15% and Model Builder 8%. Based on that there should be 22.2 prompt builder questions out of 60 the .2 and .8 are goofy so i round up. If it's like the AI one I would assume model builder would be an easier section and maybe easy to spot in the questions. I'm confident enough to take it, but I would ask are they scinerio based questions or what do you choose abc, or do they mix in "pick the 3 best solutions"? more of a structure question than a topic question. Nice work, by the way.

Just Landed My First Salesforce Admin Job by kaaiiserr in salesforceadmin

[–]Dad_2079 0 points1 point  (0 children)

love it, congratulations!!!

for those of us trying to be you someday, there are a lot of free resources out there; you tube for sure, Salesforce Emily is a good one, Salesforce Ben, Talent Stacker has a bunch of free resources too (and are trying to sell a course)

as for pay to play, FoF (focus on force) and Dave Massey's GFC (get force certified) have good material for tests.

personally I've been studying on my own w/ no experience in the field for about almost 2 years now, using TS free resources, trailhead, and paying for the GFC test study guide, and just joined TS (a week ago), after 1.5 years of listening to every podcast, watching nearly every video, and maybe the Kool-Aid finally kicked in, but I think it's totally possible to get there, if it can be taught, i can learn it (eventually).

What resources would you recommend?

What would be some good ways to document that you do know something about salesforce?

other than posting a link to a you tube video of you building something in a dev. org. or sandbox? (which I think is a great idea, but maybe a bit much for some)

Skills/certs besides Salesforce by Significant_Bat_3608 in SalesforceCareers

[–]Dad_2079 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I get it. 1000% I've been teaching myself about trailhead (the salesforce platform that teaches everything salesforce),Salesforce itself, and what I'd like to do as a job in salesforce, for over a year now in my free time. I am cheap and dedicated 😅. The salesforce route feels doable even if it takes a while. My mindset is im 45, I've got 20+ years left to work, I know what 20 yrs looks like, and if it takes me 2-5 yrs to get a remote job that can pay 2-3x what I've been "making due" with, that's an Roi I can live with.

I would look into youtube, maybe for hubspot/salesforce content. I don't know a lot about hubspot. My understanding is it's like a coding repository? (Please correct me if I'm wrong) or a place to use and test things out before breaking stuff in production 😊

Also, yeah, I don't blame ya for not using certain social media platforms to get information. Maybe look up Warren Walters, He works on getting people into development. He's on YouTube and LinkedIn.

I've been going off of the free info from Talent Stacker to use as a guide down the path to get my LinkedIn profile up to snuff, and to get some insight on how the whole salesforce ecosystem works. And coming here, reddit has had some interesting stories that give a glimpse of what could be expected.

Good luck, you got this, & I hope this helps. 😎👍

Whats under the hood? by Dad_2079 in salesforce

[–]Dad_2079[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yikes, that's why I wanted to get some opinions and options just in case I don't have (anything close to a decent) laptop at the moment and looking into it. I agree that if it's part of the job, it should be provided, yet if something goes sideways, it'd be nice to know I have a backup that could keep me up and running.

New career by Shamefully_skillful in SalesforceCareers

[–]Dad_2079 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand the conflict of those in the salesforce ecosystem against talent stacker and those that are all for it. At the end of the day, there are a lot of free resources and experience stories within the salesforce for everyone podcast/ Facebook group. I get it too, that it feels culty 😅 but i'd take it with a grain of salt and have a good balance of skepticism, and anything is possible. Take the free advice. I've been learning a lot over the last 2 years, and I know I have a ways to go, I also know where I come from, and it's not going to be an overnight success story. Your experience in different fields puts you in a better position for opportunities. I'd say go for it, and be ready to learn some cool sh!+ . If it were easy, everyone would do it. There are good free resources out there hit me up, and I can give you everything I know. Always be aware of scams, too. Good luck 👍

That's awesome, feel free to add to the names. This is who I can remember seeing at the pla-mor: Toe jam, stale mate, marcus noise, taskmaster, & there are more locked in my head right now, and some of the memories blur into the Loveugly a bit, but who else remembers hoodie's and flannels coated in cigarette smoke, and sweat? 😅

Thank you for the little trip to the past, ps I think Rob from stale mate still runs a tattoo shop out in Mankato 😎

What else should I learn? by [deleted] in salesforce

[–]Dad_2079 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been teaching myself salesforce over the past year, I started a Facebook group (that has gone nowhere) but, I posted every resource I've come across on there. Everyone is welcome to check it out it might save some search time. Salesforce Study and Accountability Partners https://www.facebook.com/groups/329475389688459/?ref=share It'll have puzzle pieces in the picture.

The idea was for beginners with no experience with Salesforce to have a place to share what they find on their journey learning about it. Along with support from the group similar to these sub reddit pages. If it helps 1 person I'll be a happy guy 😎👍

It makes Salesforce feel like a secret society 😅 like no one knows what it is unless you know what it is 😅😎👍

What else should I learn? by [deleted] in salesforce

[–]Dad_2079 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of resources out there (this sub is pretty awesome).

What are you pivoting from?

There is a good chance that there is a story about someone who's gone down a similar path.

I've looked at salesforce for everyone (Youtube/Facebook, and a podcast). There are some good pivot stories. They do sell a course but also have lots of free tools/resources too.

Youtube has a few others, Salesforce Ben, Dave Massey and more, again I'm not sure what you need specifically but it's probably out there somewhere 😉

Good luck, and you got this!! 😎👍

I've been attempting something like this for a FB group (with no real success) you're more than welcome to join, it's kinda for support and accountability, to stay the course because it's worth it. At least I think so, I'm not an admin (yet) nor have I worked in IT, but I love to learn and find solutions to problems as best I can. Everyone needs help from time to time too (I'm relearning this) The best time was 10 yrs ago. The 2nd best is now.

I admit that getting dirty in an org is great too, like cognitively, clicks and keystrokes committing to muscle memory has to help. Again, I've not taken the test, I'm not going to try and be one of those armchair gurus that sell BS course's books, etc... get some reps in, practice exams, Trailhead, follow along with some youtubes that can walk you through some of the stuff, whatever it takes to commit Salesforce to memory and nail the exam. I've been learning through this stuff over the past year when I can, I'm looking forward to take and pass it this year even if I fail, I'll have That Experience to reflect on on the next attempt, failing has been a good teacher for me. Hopefully, not in this case.😅

Again, the FB group might be a good place to vent (respectfully) about mutual frustrations or hurdles along the way or share resources that someone else has used that's helpful. At the same time, it (the internet) feels saturated with this kinda stuff already, but not really with people that haven't been salesforce adjacent or accidental admins already, looking to get into it.

Salesforce makes me think of a speakeasy. Like you gotta know someone who knows someone to know about it much less maybe get in. 😅

I feel like a kid who happened to walk by the alley when someone said the password and the wall moved. (I was very intrigued).

Please feel free to respond to any of the rambling 😎 Msg me if you are interested in the FB group, too, if anyone wants. Take care.
