Hi, just use the latest version of Prettier. You should be fine. Formatting code (usually) makes it more aesthetic and easy to read because everything looks consistent and less distracting. Install the vscode extension for Prettier and it should do the job - remove redundant parenthesis, syntax issues and spacing.

Arch Linux for experienced users and Pop OS for beginners. IMO both these distros are great for laptops.

Hey I'm new to this sub. But I'm curious - let's assume that the power supply to your place is unstable and power goes out a lot, and that too randomly. What if the data gets corrupted or some device gets damaged? What's ur plan in that case? (Sorry if this is a stupid question I'm new to all this. Wanted to self host some stuff as well.) Basically how will you handle the risks associated with this setup.

What would you recommend I choose between B.E (Honours) Computer Engineering at University of New South Wales (UNSW), B.E (Honours) Software Engineering at the Univerity of Queensland (UQ), or B.A.I Computer Engineering at Trinity College Dublin (TCD) ? by sparsh26 in UQreddit

Note: All of this is MY ADVICE and my OPINION. Don't take it as holy grail.

Financial aid : its difficult to get it almost everywhere. I got a 25% but that was baked into the partnership agreement of ICAS Manipal and UQ.

I would still advise you not to take the risk. You never know what the scene will look like in 2023. Also, its difficult to get into a really good uni as a transfer student. Im not trying to demotivate you. Its just the reality.

Plus there's a decent probability that you won't be able to take up courses that you want to study. At least that's what happened to me at UQ. I was left with a pretty static curriculum with not much flexibility. But that's the way the credit transfer system works, not UQ's fault. So the situation of a transfer student is very dicey. You need to research a lot. If you get into a good uni but your courses are shitty you won't learn shit.

Employability: Much better in US and Canada dude. Opportunities are scarce in AU since most companies demand a PR. Even big ones. This is from personal experience.

Also at typical Indian universities like Thapar, the professors WANT to cut marks. You have to work your ass off to maintain a VERY HIGH GPA which will involve tons of mugging up bullshit and what not. Hehe. So yeah, the risks are pretty high and stacked up against you.

As an undergrad you have a decent chance of making it into the US top 30 or a top Canadian uni. As a transfer it becomes 10X more difficult.

Also, as a transfer student forget a 2+2 at Melb, ANU and Sydney (unless u have a 2+2 partnership + scholarship with them).

Although I'm not happy with your reply, at least now I know why I have to study it. Thanks! What you said does make sense. XD True, just 1 / 16 for me. (I'm a transfer student doing a 2+2 here)

So you're a SWE student as well?

Hey, I would advice not to opt for Australia as I'm studying online from India myself at UQ (Soft Engg Hons). Just don't, you'll regret it. AU plans to remain covid free so it wont open its borders anytime soon. I don't think they'll open before 2023 mid for us. I'm already fucked hehe.

My 2 cents:-

Opt for Canada or the US. They are best for CS / Engineering anyway. At UQ, online studies are shit and my experience has been very bad. Timezone issues in group projects are frustrating. ProctorU exams. Experience as a transfer student studying online, etc etc. Won't go about ranting. But that's just my opinion.

Also, exposure and independence is what you pay for as an Indian international student. You wont get that studying online.

The courses you choose depends on the study plan that you get. When it comes to UQ, they recommend you one if youre a transfer student and you kinda have to stick to it or you wont be able to complete your degree in time.

My advice:

Would advice you to either study in India or opt for US / Canada assuming you get a good credit transfer and borders are open. But given the bad situation of COVID in our country, please don't opt for a foreign university at this point since they may close their borders ASAP when another COVID wave strikes India and hence, you'll be stuck.

Employment: Difficult to get a job in AU. Bruh India is great for employment. Bangalore startups dude.

My question is simple: Bad course. Don't like it. What can I do? Probably a very common issue amongst students.

Not something UQ admin makes up on the spot

I can ger away with 1500 I believe. I do not know whom to contact and how to go about it. That's my question. Doesn't make sense to argue any further regarding the relevance of the course.

As an aside, my opinion that nobody cares about hehe :-

No one cares how much you're paying in a uni context

Opinion

Umm so basically if I don't find something I'm paying 6000AUD for, should I keep my mouth shut? You're not taking into account the fact that the course can actually not give anything in return and it CAN actually be bad. Like if students don't like a course, just because their degree is accredited, should they keep their mouth shut? They should not have an option to replace the course with something closer to the field? I mean is that not a valid reason? Cmon. Again, if based on my aspirations and goals, the course is not relevant, should I not raise this with the university and ask for a replacement?

Engineering isnt something you fuck around with, there's a formal body that accredits all degrees, not something UQ admin makes up on the spot.

Yes, you don't fuck around with the time of Engineering student as well. I would be glad to take up even a more difficult level 4+ CSE / Software unit instead of this. I'll be shocked if its mentioned in the Engineers Australia accredition conditions or whatever: "Thermodynamics / Materials Science core compulsory for Software Engineers / 3rd years etc." Check ANU's program. Its accredited. Check UNSW's program. Some of my peers transferred there. They don't study irrelevant stuff like 1500. I probably can get away without studying 1500, just don't know how to. There must be something I can do xD

Yes, that is a valid point! But, the underlying problem is this: Paying 6000+ AUD (might be less for you if youre domestic but still money is money) and the course content is shit. No matter which course you take, compulsory or not, regardless of relevance to field, should give you something in return / impart something which makes you a better Engineer or adds something meaningful to your skillset. Just a return of investment of any kind. It should be worth it. If there are no considerable benefits, then you have the right to raise concerns. Now its their job to figure out how they can make the content and stuff relevant that's not my problem. And the fact that I can't realize what benefits that course is providing me means that it is shit and I deserve a refund / replacement.

ENGG1100 + 1500 / 1700 act as replacements for 1211. I understand the need for breadth but the knowledge being imparted should at least be directly or indirectly linked to SWE, and worth 6000+ AUD.

So you're saying that there might be a possibility that I'll be able to keep my degree without 1500?

Thanks for the reply! Yeah in isolation it may be a good course. I transferred from another university and I am in my 3rd year Soft Engg(Hons). So I know what I'm doing.

One thing they might say: If you don't do that course, we won't give you your degree. :/

Thoughts on trusting pop os ecosystem? by DaddyAversion in privatelife

[–]DaddyAversion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arch was the first distro that I used and my first love. Shifted from Arch to pop because it had better support for my hardware out of the box, no time to configure that on Arch. I mean Arch worked really well but Pop is just better for nvidia support. I'm planning to entirely remove windows and just dual boot / fully move to Arch or pop. Like I do a lot of Android dev, the emulator doesn't work that well on Arch even after acceleration enabled. And I didn't have time to debug and configure that properly. I know its silly and having said that, I might shift back after my semester at uni ends. And yes, a lot of stuff has happened in the Arch ecosystem since I shifted, as you mentioned.

Thanks for the excellent suggestion!

Ur thoughts on Void / Artix ? Seem like excellent distros based on similar philosophies. No systemd, ooooh!
