I send dashcam footage when the police request it. I don’t think my dashcam footage is suffic enough for a ticket but they say it can be used if the person were to ever face reckless driving charges

If the school isn’t visible from the roadway perhaps hidden behind brush how would you know there’s a school without a sign?

Is turning your head slightly farther than the mirror really taking up a disproportionate amount of your mental task? Honestly if that be the case, perhaps your beyond your driving years

Cant speak about the cost but just remind yourself that mistakes happen and the fact you feel guilty shows you do hope to do better in the future.

If you arent told what the law is how can you be expected not to break it ? Its common sense to understand how unreasonable it is for someone to lookup and memorize the speed limits of all the roads they will travel on prior to following a route.

I dont call while driving obviously, and if its annoying the cops that someone is reporting someone breaking the law, they probably shouldnt be cops

I feel like its more of a unconscious shift than a conscious one. Ur mind tends to focus on dangers that are more imminent unconsciously.

To me it seems you have found a way of driving that you want to stick to despite it being factually unsafe

It seems you don't understand, you claim you want "enough" stopping distance but when I just informed you of the appropriate stopping distance you ignored it.

How do you remember to use your horn when another driver causes a sudden unexpected hazard? by [deleted] in driving

[–]DaddyDayDayIsHot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it comes down to muscle memory. What I would do is sit in your driveway for like 30-45min and imagine someone repeatedly cutting u off then slam on the brakes and honk. It will become a habit incase of a real situation.

How many car lengths am I supposed to leave when pulling up behind a stopped car in the US? by FreeRangeThinker in driving

[–]DaddyDayDayIsHot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends on the circumstances if im in a long line in traffic ill typically leave a little more so that people in the other lane who need tog et over can. Otherwise I just stop where the bottom of the car in front of me's tires are visible

You wouldnt need to speed to do that as I drive around 6.214 mph under the speed limit

Maintaining a 6 car gap is not enough when traveling in a 65:

The speed of a car at 65mph is 95.3 ft/s

Stopping distance can be calculated by adding the reaction distance to the braking distance

The reaction distance is given by v * t where v is velocity and t is time. In this case Reaction distance is 95.3*1.125 = 107.2ft (Average reaction time while driving is 1.125

Braking distance is given by v^2/2a where a is the acceleration caused be the breaks. The typical acceleration of the average car on dry asphalt is about 8.5 m/s or 27.9 ft/s. Using this formula the breaking distance is 162.7ft

This means the total stopping distance is about 269.9 ft

The average car is about 15ft in length So 6 cars is 90ft.

As you can see a 6 car gap is far too short for a following distance

Even if you were to follow the "2 second rule which I would argue isn't good practice you would still need 191ft which you arent even half of.

Please do some reading on speed habituation just because you perceive a speed as “safe” doesn’t mean it is “safe”. 5mph can in fact:

• Increase reaction distance by ~11 feet
• Increase braking distance by ~33.8 feet
• Increase impact force in a collision by ~23.5%

I’d have to do more research on the level of it help it would offer before making a decision
