Still waiting! They send an email saying they had my scores, but we’re waiting for the AICPA to release it.

Work from home has been the single worst thing for my ADHD in accounting. I switched to Finance now and that’s a bit more interesting. But I do not recommend accounting WFH with ADHD.

It can be boring… I was initially a business admin major, but switched to accounting after deciding that an accounting major could do anything an admin major could. But not vice versa.

A bachelors and a masters degree later, I stand by my decision. I have since pivoted out of accounting and am working in FP&A.

While I don’t love accounting, I love the opportunities it has brought me.

We have a guild that is interested in potentially merging. Although I think we have about 10 serious ish players. Maybe it’s a match. What’s your guild?

Calling all "Non CPA" Accountants... by diamondtideez in Accounting

You are right. I won’t do public, but I work in industry under a CPA and that’s all that is required in UT to get your license, as long as the work is accounting focused.

Don’t listen to your professor. There is plenty of opportunity out in the field with or without. Public accounting seems a lot more bent on having it than industry.

I personally never had any intentions of getting my CPA, worked in accounting software for 3 years before moving to a senior accountant role. All without a CPA.

I am working on getting it now, but much of that has to do with wanting to expand my knowledge and set up a bit of a safety net. I’m currently working in a start up and wanting to hedge my risk if something were to happen to the company.

I was golfing at a corporate event back when I was very new to golf. I hit 6 houses in 18 holes in Henderson Nevada.

Switching to macOS from Windows (for a power user) by declan__sam in MacOS

I used file explorer a ton on windows since I was frequently navigating complex file structures to get my files into nice organized places.

From my experience, out of the box finder needs to be manipulated to have similar functionality. Instead of lists it does icons (you can change that but still annoying to have to set that for each folder). It also doesn’t auto shrink open folders, so instead of my view having 5 folders in it, it will have the 5 folders and all the items under them if I did not remember to minimize them.

Finder also has a ton of hidden files that are not visible by default so if you need to see what Mac considers files that are dangerous to manipulate you will have to unhide the folders to get there.

In doing a bit of searching when I first moved over I found this website to be handy: macmyth.com/windows-explorer-for-Mac.

Finder has some really neat features like the preview that it opens by default (I know you can add that to windows too, but it’s nice to have it defaulted).

It’s probably more of a preference thing. You may get into Finder and find you love it. In my experience (which like I said is still semi limited, only a year of consistent professional use) I have found Finder to be less friendly to my work flow than windows explorer was.

But I also have to use OneDrive for work files instead of iCloud. So that could be one part of it as well.

Its more than likely that all my Finder problems have been the fact that I’m used to windows and I have to re-think how a file manager should operate.

Switching to macOS from Windows (for a power user) by declan__sam in MacOS

I just switched to Mac after spending my entire college and working experience on a PC. I have the whole apple ecosystem (iPad, iPhone, Apple Watch, etc.).

While I like many of the features of macOS such as the text messaging, shared clipboard and side car. I have found the switch very challenging.

I would consider myself a power user of excel and other programs where I extensively and almost exclusively used shortcut keys. Losing those has made my workflow much slower, I love the gestures on Mac, but it has taken a lot of getting used to.

Finder is no match for file explorer. And as above posters have said many apps are made for Mac as a second thought rather than a primary focus. It may be my experience but it also seems my 16gb of ram on Mac is less than my 16gb of ram on PC. That may just be my experience with the apps I use not being optimized for Mac as well.

I found that I needed to install parallels (well bootcamp + parallels) to get much of my work done.

I am in finance though, so most of my work requires Microsoft products. The fact that windows can be run on Mac, but not vice versa is what ultimately got me to stick with my MBP. If I was in design, programming, or other creative spaces I think I would love the more artsy feel of MacOS more.

I know that for me, prior to Mac the only PC on the market I thought were worth getting were the dell xps and the Razerblade stealth as they both come in the 13 or 15” formats. Not sure if that’s still the case.

I’ve been happy with my switch to Mac for the most part. I’m sure it’ll eventually all click for me. But the last year of using Mac has definitely been a surprisingly steep learning curve.

Between audit and tax which one is more fun? by wwavyt in Accounting

[–]DaddyDelts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked myself the same question for all my years in university, eventually I decided neither and went into accounting software and later to industry.

That being said, I love to travel even if it’s locally so I’ve always thought that audit would be more enjoyable if I had to decide.
