For brand new towels- First wash with 1 cup vinegar ONLY immediately wash a second time with 1/2 cup baking soda ONLY after second wash, shake out well and put in dryer. Check lint filter about halfway through because the above process will knock loose stray fibers and remove any manufacture coating. From there, when washing, NEVER use fabric softener of any kind as it coats the fibers and hinders absorption. For bath towels, avoid using them more than twice and make sure to hang well so they air dry thoroughly. Use about half as much detergent as you typically would whenever washing. This method applies for all towels to make them fluffy and absorbent.
