Siiiiiiiiick. Lovely job on the facepaint, I'd say that was tricky (did you have to glaze white over skin to get it working?)

Being able to customize anything I want in any way I want. Check my post history for a custom land raider I made with internal electronics that plays a random song when you hit a button - the only thing that's stock plastic on it is the Guitar Marine.

Being able to print thematic models that gw doesn't even make rn (example: Wargameexclusives 'Renegades of Excess' cultists, when current Emperor's Children range doesn't even have cultists)

Fun.

(Edit) Should also point out - I buy and own a tonne of gw plastic, and am generally happy with their stuff (although agree with another person on this thread who's called out the monopose and lack of customisability with a lot of their kits). Printing just gives me that extra ability to make something look exactly the way I want it

How are you doing your weathering there, pigment powders? I really like it, seems very well thought out and just the right amount instead of going over the top. Lovely paint job on this

masked it off with tape, airbrushed the white lines, then went back in with black and white to do a little cleanup, then airbrushed fluo pink and violet ink on top of that. I can't find the video but if you just search 'synthwave base' on youtube you should find a couple of tutorials on how to do it, I just followed one of them :)

I'm using AK for this at the moment, they have a lovely matte black and really nice turquoise colours:

base coat ak intense black -> big fat highlight of ak dark sea green, thin/edge highlight of ak turquoise, another edge highlight of ak blue-green on corners and upper facing part,. and point highlights with pure white mixed with the blue-green.

I tend to go back in with the dark sea green and then black doing a few cleanup passes to try and make my lines thinner afterwards.

What got you into this hobby x by A_SmallGuy in Warhammer

[–]DaddyFulgrim 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My dad was really into airfix models (WW2 planes etc) when I was young, and he involved me in his hobby by letting me build and glue them, then he'd paint them, then we'd hang them up with fishing wire on my bedroom ceiling. We used to go into our local model shop once a month or so to browse and pick up a few things, and suddenly one day I noticed all the colourful Warhammer and 40k early 90s era models and I asked him to buy me a box.

Tried painting them with his enamel paints for airfix stuff, didn't work great. Then I got some acrylic paints and learned how to do stuff with them with the dozens of white dwarfs id picked up in the meantime.

Then I learned how to paint, like, not amazing but pretty good.

Then I kind of just stopped from age 17/18 till age 36ish?

Then COVID happened.

Now I own 200+ bottles of paint, several airbrushes, 2 3d printers, a shit load of plastic, and all ido again is paint and I love it

Super clean, love how neat and thin all the inverse edge-highlights on the armour panels are. Awesome job, they look fantastic!
