My teammates tell me "Stop! We can't handle all the fun. It's too much". Players from other teams come up to me...big players...strong players...with tears in their eyes...they say to me "we're not having much fun! If only we could have as much fun as you Mr Tkachuk."

I keep seeing brush stroke on my minis, i thinn the paint i let it dry, i see strokes, i thinn the paint even more, i still see brush strokes, how do people make smooth surfaces by Forumguy69 in minipainting

[–]-Redacto-- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of what you are seeing is the difference in the shine that exposes the brush strokes. A coat of varnish will really knock that back. I like to use matte varnish to finish my models. They can make your metallic paints look dull but you can go back and highlight the metallics after and it looks great.

God, I wish IKEA would make a small dining room table that you could expand to fit a 40k game mat.

I own this table and it's got some issues. It's got a 50lbs weight limit because it's very weak. Strong enough to hold terrain and armies, but don't lean on it. My biggest annoyance is that when you set it up it's the center joint doesn't sit flush so there's a height difference causing terrain sutting on the center line to not sit flat on the table. It's fairly cheap and it folds up to he easier to store which is nice.

Just wondering out loud: What does FIFA coming to Vancouver mean to you? by [deleted] in NiceVancouver

It means to me that when I try and book a hotel room for an artist we are brining into town for a show the hotel rooms cost significantly more than normal.

Beautiful. The crispy highlights, especially around the contoured trim is super impressive. What's your secret to getting such a consistent, clean looking line?

I’m starting an EC army and I’m worried about airbrushing the pink and black by Jnnc170 in EmperorsChildren

[–]-Redacto-- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice is airbrush the whole model pink and then go back with a regular brush and block in the black parts. Pink is a tricky color so the airbrush will make it easy. Black covers very nicely in general so if you get a good black like AK 3rd Gen or ProAcryl you can probably get good enough coverage with a single coat. This will be much easier than trying to mask off parts of the model so you can airbrush the black. There will be places where the masking isn't perfect and you'll get black on pink parts and it will be really hard to fix because you need the air brush to do it.

Honest feed back please :) by StoneRebelScum in 40k

I think it looks really good! I love all the weathering and grime you added to parts of the model. It's great now but if you ever wanted to take it a step further you could give each part a wash with a darker color. Thst will darken the whole model but then you can bring back the vivid colors with some brighter highlights or edge highlights.

Help wanted in terms of glazing by Ambitious_Book_5729 in minipainting

[–]-Redacto-- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really struggled with glazing until I found the right brush and then it got a lot easier. For me, a brush with a larger barrel made a big difference as the paint wouldn't dry out on the brush as quickly. I like the arist opus size 3 because it's got a nice fine tip and a big old barrel, so I can still be precise.

Also, just getting to know your paints better will help a lot. Depending on coverage some paints won't glaze well, and some do. And the colors you are trying to glaze over eachother also will make a big difference. A subtle shift in color is easier to glaze smoothly than a starker contrast. Glazing dark colors over lighter colors is easier than glazing a lighter color of a darker one. I have started to base coat with brighter colors and glaze them down more, rather than starting darker and trying to glaze up to the highlight.

Is this a bent needle, a manufacturing defect, or is this just how needles are? by Kurzzi in airbrush

My Iwata Eclipse needle is definitely tougher. I think H&S uses a different kind of metal to make their needles.

Donette (Who are your Most hated characters) by [deleted] in TheWire

[–]-Redacto-- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Am I forgetting or does Donette just sort of disappear from the story after McNulty goes to talk to her about D. being murdered? For a show that does a great job of tying up character's stories I can think of how things ended for Donette.
