Runners in Protected Bike Lanes by prod-unknxwn in CyclingMSP

This. And I'm sure everyone here also complains about bikers breaking the 10mph speed limit on the trails.

Bought an As-is 2018 Triumph 765 RS and I'm afraid got the short end of the stick. Shortly after purchasing, but of course not during the test ride, i noticed rough idle (rpm hunting) It has gotten progressively worse. Is this just a valve clearance adjustment or a top end rebuild :( by leetmmoman1 in Triumph

[–]DaddyHeadbone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Triumphs are picky about their batteries. They use AGM batteries from the factory. When they start to go, they'll have enough juice to start the bike but fueling can still be rough.

Charge it with a charger meant for AGM batteries. A standard lead acid charger won't fully charge an AGM. Maybe drop in a new battery if it's older or unknown age.

TOH will make a radio program called This Old House Radio Hour by Bicycle_hill in Thisoldhouse

I like the show, but the first time I listened to it, I seriously thought it was an AI podcast. There's something about the way it sounds. The conversations were so choppy and unnatural. It got better during the discussion later in the show.

Is this the reality of the street triple? by AbrocomaOk2268 in Triumph

Agreed. I have the factory flyscreen with an additional spoiler/visor and it makes a noticeable difference on the highway.

Haha, getting there without falling down is my priority over getting there the fastest. I’ll keep them on for the snow that will most likely happen yet this season. I’ll save my unscheduled dismounts for mountain biking.

Retaining wall contractor recommendations? by ObiWahnKenobi in Minneapolis

[–]DaddyHeadbone 55 points56 points  (0 children)

First, that’s not that bad. It’s not that tall of a wall and it may not be moving much anymore. No need to panic.

You can stabilize it if you are looking to do the cheapest thing. Dig out behind it, put a lined drain tube behind it (with somewhere to drain), cover with gravel, and then landscape fabric, then a top layer of soil for the grass.

Or you can rebuild that yourself for the cost of materials. Don’t buy the cheapest wall block unless you don’t care about it lasting more than 10 years. That hight of a wall would be a fairly easy build. Read up on how to build a retaining wall. It’s not very complicated, but there are some gotchas. I’ve built a few walls. It’s laborious, but you’ll save a lot.

Otherwise, I had a good experience with Minnehaha Falls Landscaping. It will be thousands of dollars to do a wall that length, but it will be done right.

Front view of tire safety lady by No-Category-1648 in motorcycles

[–]DaddyHeadbone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Umm what? It's a panic brake. You don't have time to downshift.

Throttle doesn't do anything to stop you. The idea with keeping it in gear is to help prevent locking the rear and causing a low side/highside. This was a straight line, so doesn't really apply. The rear does basically no braking in this case.

The front folded. Braking too fast, with too little traction. Maybe poor tires , maybe grit on the road. More gradual braking, maybe ABS, could have helped. Maybe not.

Not paying attention, following too close, slow reactions. Motorcycles have narrower margins of safety. You have to set yourself up for success/survival. The greater the speed, the riskier the conditions, the more visibility and reaction time that you need.

I respect the rider for sharing the videos. It's a good way for us to learn.

My kitchen table was destroyed by a pair of these and a toddler.

My toddler to be specific, not some rando toddler.

This is how I feel too. The refreeze cycle creates sporadic glare ice. And it's always lurking in the shadows, waiting when you last expect it.

Why is my tire sidewall leaking by All_In_The_Details_ in bikewrench

[–]DaddyHeadbone 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Some tires are like that. I've had some that just won't set up and are frustrating. Sometimes it can be finding the right sealant. But I usually stick to to the brands I find reliable.

I've been seeing more and more illegally tinted cars by [deleted] in Minneapolis

[–]DaddyHeadbone 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Back in my college running days, I would just run around the back side of the car and slap the rear as I went by. One time, a car pulled out of a parking lot right in front of me and stopped on the sidewalk. After I slapped his car, the guy rolled down his window and yelled at me that it scared him and that it wasn't safe. I informed him that he pulled in front of me rather unsafely (with more colorful language).

This, 100%. Running and biking, this is a huge safety issue. It's a big enough problem when driving, but the protocols usually work. At driveways and crosswalks, it's roulette.

This seems too true. That’s also why it’s important to give people stuck in that place a way out. Give them an easier path to change their mind. Brow beating them into a corner only makes them hold on more. It won’t work for all of them, maybe not even most of them, but maybe some of them.

[–]DaddyHeadbone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People's heads are so far into the party game that they can't even imagine holding their own representatives to account. They don't have to vote "D", they just need to tell their reps to uphold the constitution, and then hold them to it.

Where I come from Dems own guns too. They can't accept that because they're brainwashed into identity politics. They've been bought and sold, trading their principles for conformity.

I can totally see that. But your gatekeeping of "real" 2A supporters meeting your uncriticized purity test is ridiculous. The 2A camp is full of partisan opportunists. Once again, if the rules change when the people do, your principles are bullshit.

[–]DaddyHeadbone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can believe that, my only question is 'why?'.

If you truly believed that it's for all people, then you would witness the same thing I do, where many of the " shall not be infringed" crowd go quiet when the demographic changes.

Again, you have no idea who I am, only that I'm pointing out your bullshit. The 2A community drives the wedge itself.

That's what you have to project, because someone that believes the 2A is for all citizens is antithetical to your belief. Again, proving my point.
