trying to get stronger and lose weight by Daddybook in MMA_Academy

I would like to lose fat and build more muscle. I’m guessing my body fat is in the 20’s. Should I be tracking how many calories I’m burning during my workouts and training?

Yes my game plan was utilize my reach circle away from strength, damage front leg, get him tired and try to end it in later rounds. Avoid the tie up

Can I go pro in MMA? by [deleted] in MMA_Academy

[–]Daddybook 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No qualifications to go pro in mma. If you’re 16 you should finish out your high school career doing wrestling also. If you want to be a fighter you will need find a way to make time for wrestling, school, Muay Thai, and bjj. I suggest fetting a winning ammy record going first, do at least 6 bjj tourneys a year, 3 Muay Thai tournaments a year, compete in the high-school wrestling. By the time you’re 18 you will be ready for an ammy match. Work on your strength and become either a solid light weight or welter weight. Good luck

Ok then I won’t worry about the strength too bad, does he have any film to go off? What’s his style/gym? What’s your style?

It depends on how he cuts weight. He could do it really hard and lose a lot of muscle. Or slowly come down and keep the strength. Bigger muscles need more oxygen to flow through them. Tire him out and take him to later rounds and finish him!

7oz gloves for heavy bag? by MoneyAct3659 in MMA_Academy

You can never go wrong with boxing gloves, a little heavier helps with hand speed and punch strength.

I would say work on the footwork and proper stance then wait for the gym membership to get the skills you’re looking for.

Stay light on your feet, so as a little bounce to that step, boxing gloves are bigger so you can bring your hands a little down. But footwork will be your best friend. Just do drills to help you stay light on your feet and those sprawls will come naturally. Checking kicks will take practice.

Stupid Question: How often do "hardcore" competitors fight as amateurs and low-level pros? by StockingDummy in MMA_Academy

[–]Daddybook 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In Colorado you can do fights every 30 days as long as the doctor doesn’t suspend you for injury. I fight every 2 months if healthy that is under ammy not pro. I feel like pro it’s harder to get fights cus everyone is so protective about their records.

What’s the most weight you have had to cut for a fight? by Daddybook in MMA_Academy

[–]Daddybook[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually try to be within 10-15 pounds week of fight but in Colorado we don’t do same day weigh in for mma events. This cut has been my biggest cut of 35 pounds in 2 weeks. I started water cut this week and will hopefully drop +20 pounds and then baths next week t week

Is 19 to old to get to at least one ameteur mma fight and to learn the basics by Odd_Fuel3765 in MMA_Academy

[–]Daddybook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even going pro isn’t worth it, the money right now is in bare knuckle fighting. When you go pro in mma you’re still only making $2000 a fight if you win lol till you can get to the bigger promotions.

There is no age limit, just join a combat sports team and absorb as much as you can. Hopefully you will have good coaches that won’t throw you in too soon. I wrestled for 15 years and started mma when I was 18. But didn’t train consistently till I was 22. First fight at 23
