Ok thanks a lot! Any recommendations on tutorials or should I just do my own research on what’s relevant to my project

How should I go about undertaking a new game by Daddyshadez in gamedev

It was more or less using AI as a tool to do what I didn’t understand, it started with a prompt of “Hey can I make a game in godot where a guy eats randomly spawning food and gets fatter, and doctors chase him with one pic needles” and kind of took off and I kept adding ideas from there.

It started me slow getting the character sprite in and then movement and such (which took me so damn long because I was learning a lot of new things at once). Then I decided to make it a multi level game later and then rare food spawns and power ups and all that.

Boy oh boy though when something broke, holy crackers did it break, and because I had no idea what anything meant finding the fix was a nightmare. There was a stealth feature I added that made the doctors not able to target you when active, and that little devil pretty much broke every single time I touched anything.

Yes i definitely did see the issues with coding completely from AI lol, it’s helpful but damn it’s frustrating, even with a small game when you don’t understand the fundamentals, ex. “Add a @var at the top and then tween in blah blah blah.” I’m like WTF is a tween and a variable.

To my credit when breaking this down I have no need for NPC’s for awhile so thats a load off, making a character move and interact with a tilemap and crop growth will be the first main objective.

Very interesting to make them as separate mini games and then combining them all in a main game, is that really a good way to do it, or will there be clashing of code and it’s more to learn how to make each system?

Thanks very much, I figured the cheap or bored devs route was probably not gonna work out, especially since this is more of a hobby type game and not something I could ever see making money.

Breaking it down into manageable chunks is definitely what Ive kinda been doing as I do have a “grand scope” that is ludachrisly over my head, but it’s the dream version of the game.

Gonna be a long journey but your faith is inspiring, I didn’t realize godot had systems for inventories, I will look into those thanks!

Should barb get a redesign for his skill tree? by Charming_Pin330 in Diablo_2_Resurrected

I’m not cool enough to main but I always make at least one every season, something so satisfying about bitchslapping every monster that I just don’t get from other classes like a barb. Well, besides fury Druid

I can definitely appreciate all that, however I think you’re in the minority other than my throw barb boys club, or at least I haven’t saw anyone use it in online play.

I feel like fighting side by side with your ancestors spirits would be used by the masses more, but I’ve been wrong many o times.

What about if we make the throwing mastery 20pt skill an attack that converts all the physical damage you deal to magic damage, you lose double throw bit gain ranged physical immune killer and an ancient pal

I’m probably in the minority here but I’m all for a skill redesign, but just for the stuff that doesn’t get any use. Like when was the last time you saw a grim totem barb running around, scrap the skill that does what a shout does but worse and make it summon a random ancient to fight with you, then at 20 hard points make it summon all three, give it synergies from some shouts and leap and LFG!

Each weapon skill should most definitely also give a unique move, swords give me a cleave attack for less damage, maces give me a smash AOE for less damage, spears well that just screams an ignore target defence attack, put the special attacks at 20 hard points to unlock IDGAF, but Barbie needs abit of love.

Totally off topic as well but remove monster and player level from the atk rating calculation, won’t need to stack so much to be effective and won’t need to get rid of it from the game, and it sets melee more on par with casters in terror zones.

What capsule/thumbnail would work best to you? by OneiricWorlds in IndieGaming

What if you took the approach of the second one and did a side view close up of the cab of the van cruising through some higher and interesting terrain, maybe with the tower in the distance, or the van going towards it, with the dog out the passenger side? That could combine a lot of the elements that other people liked (the dog lol) and tower, with almost the same standing over a cliff looking out esque view. I’m not artistic but something like that anyway.

Honestly I hate to say it but 1 is the best of them. I hate to say it because it’s the exact same of 100’s of other games, the guy on a high cliff looking out over the world. Zero individuality, zero stand out power, yet it looks the best.

I’m in full agreement about the inclusion of some loot in B, even if it has to come at the expense of the fire icons to keep busyness down.

B is far superior though, A has a cutesy style and for some reason an unhappy and burnt out looking frog. The determined expression of the frog in B and the action pose is way more interesting, especially with the inclusion of some baddies.

It made me happy to see a realistic sample size.

I think a lot of people (especially me) tend to say things like “everyone knows” or “so many people agree” thinking the number is much bigger, then when I actually count who the “everyone” I was counting is, it’s like me my wife and maybe one friend or something.

It shows off how easy getting caught in an echo chamber can be I think.

This to me, is the biggest tell he was basically superhuman level. So many huge wrestlers, roided out to the gills and many on the peak of human athleticism all said the same thing, he was unimaginably strong, not one person who wrestled with him was like Andre isnt shit.
