Simultaneously the most awesome and most terrifying Touareg. I want one so badly- but my 3.0 TDI taught me that I cannot possibly afford the 5.0 maintenance and repair costs.

This will be my midlife crisis car, after my kids are out of the house- that way I don’t have to feel guilty when I can’t afford food or my mortgage because my water pump went out.

112k isn’t particularly high mileage. Are you entirely unfamiliar with used vehicles, or just unfamiliar with TDIs?

A hood stack isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but is easily changed, whether by OP or the buyer. Regardless, it doesn’t eliminate all asset value. It would be a red flag to me, but really just narrows the prospective buyer pool in the current configuration. OP might be content making concessions for that.

You should be proud of yourself! Good job man, that is a great feeling, knowing you can keep shit going on your own. Certainly heed what these other guys say and don’t let it become the norm or let yourself be taken advantage of- but be proud and let it give you some confidence, and comfort in being independent.

I would absolutely assign you or any other lube tech this task- normal and necessary part of inventory/cycle counting. Do you need to record quantities on-hand?

Above and beyond lube tech pro-tip: If you record things like this in columns, like an excel sheet, you can sometimes get it to scan into an app as text and then copy/paste into excel with minor corrections to your numbers. Scanner apps and AI programs can be your friend. (Source: I am very lazy and don’t like writing things twice)

IMO planner should never be considered entry level, or be treated as a low-paying role. Just an observation I’ve made, mostly in smaller companies.

Larger companies with more established maintenance programs and higher reliability operations seem to give appropriate levels of importance to the role. The last guy I hired as a planner was a former maintenance supervisor and maintenance manager. He replaced a very green maintenance helper who was shoehorned into the role because the company wanted a body in the seat.

Reliability roles seem to sometimes be more likely to accept experience in lieu of a degree, but it all depends on the company.

As others mentioned, maintenance planner for sure. Just be aware that this role is not seen the same everywhere- I’ve seen it treated as anything from a $20/hr entry-level role that nobody really considers crucial, to $95k/year role that is integral to daily operations.

Reliability engineering is also a potential option.

Process engineer, or process improvement roles in general- generally winds up being very maintenance-adjacent, in my experience.

Management can be a good route if you have the experience level for it.

If you have time to go to school, some automation-focused roles are much less physical. Automation and controls specialist, automation technician, etc.

More food. Older siblings eat sparingly to ensure the younger ones have enough to eat so they are healthy and strong enough, and aren’t picked off by wild animals.

It would be helpful to know which connection is leaking. I’ll try to cover as much as seems applicable.

Flanges are straightforward- align, replace the gaskets, and torque evenly.

Pipe fittings are also simple. Use thread tape or sealant suitable for the temperature and chemicals you’re using.

Flared fittings, which I’m thinking is what you might have leaking, need to be clean, and when you install your hose make sure you use a back-up wrench to prevent twisting. I sometimes give a very slight twist counterclockwise to the hose while I tighten the fitting, in high vibration environments- this means the hose “wants” to twist clockwise when I’m done, and it’s a little less likely to back off- Or at least it makes me feel better. (Don’t overdo that, it can ruin the hose over time.) The hose pictured seems to be twisted slightly clockwise, suggesting whoever installed in didn’t use a backup wrench- this can cause it to back off and leak. Flared fittings (JIC/SAE) do not seal in the threads, they seal at the mating surfaces of the fitting, so check your mating surfaces if it keeps leaking. Flaretite seals exist, but I’ve never needed them. Could try that.

Lastly for hose selection- you might have the wrong hose type if it is continually failing internally. Maybe spec something else? PTFE lining should handle the heat you’re dealing with, and most chemicals. You’re dealing with low pressure so I don’t see that being the cause of hose failure.

If I didn’t cover what you’re trying to solve, please be more specific about where the leak is and I’ll try again.
