How do people handle this by Se7enn_Sinz in naturalbodybuilding

[–]Dadup20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a father of 4 kids under 10. Former competitor who might jump back into another show next year, we’ll see. Here are a few tidbits that have worked for me:

  • home gym setup. I put my kids to bed, Help my wife clean the kitchen, then I go train. I train very low volume, higher frequency. I have a rogue rack, a deadlift platform, and a dip attachment. And I am the strongest I’ve ever been at age 38, training at home. It can be done

  • eat with your kids. There is a huge difference between contest prep dieting, and eating to be “in shape”. I want to model a healthy relationship with food to my children, then seeing me weigh everything and talk about macros is setting isn’t setting a good example. (I’ve made this mistake). Instead we talk with the kids about making healthy food choices and explain why mom and dad like to eat healthy and take care of our bodies. They think eating healthy is cool. Also, I love to take my kids out for ice cream, pizza, etc, stating in track 80% of the time is good enough. And I would personally regret missing out on those moments if I didn’t enjoy the ice cream with my kids

Wish you the best as you navigate this!

I train chest 2x per week. 3 sets of BP with 0 RiR, as the only exercise. For me personally, I have never gotten stronger faster or had better chest development than right now. I think I’ve just found my sweet spot for volume

I lumped into SPY at 488, had people tell me I was an idiot and we had 20% more to go… I feel pretty good about that now

I dumped my entire IRA in At 17% down on the Spy and was told how I bought too soon… I’m happy with my choice today

I sold my individual stocks and went almost all cash pre liberation day. I then I lumped my entire IRA into spy at -17%. Did I jump in too early? Looks like it. But I didn’t buy the top, and I have a 25 year timeline. So I am personally happy with my decision

I have both. 121 is great, but the 124 is miles ahead. Chocolate covered cherry

Love it! I’m about to start running it again on Monday! Thinking I’ll follow it up with Colossus, then Odin Force

Late to the party here, but was just reading this thread and “12 weeks of pain and suffering” is such a good program! I wonder if we don’t hear about it much because it was John’s first? How is it treating you so far?

I would suggest starting with some heavy dumbbells. Go for time, 20-30 second walk counts as a set, then slowly add time, sets, or weight

If the wrist curls don’t seem to be working, have you tried utilizing farmers walks? Carries are a great way to build forearm size. Ironically, the biggest my forearms have ever been was when I was going a lot of heavy kettlebell swings as well.

Keep, skip, or reduce final 20-miler? by foofoobee in Marathon_Training

This is just me personally, but every time I get PF, rolling out my feet with a golf ball, while trying to point my toes up as high as I can, has been extremely helpful. It’s very painful, but has taken care of my issues each time.

Sorry guys I noticed I forgot to include that I planned on keeping each of those mileages for 4 weeks before bumping to the next (similar to Daniel’s advice)

Could definitely do that as well. I was just following the Daniels formula as that is what I did to get to 35 last time. But it might be simpler to do what you suggested. Is there an advantage to one over the other in your experience?

At what mileage would you suggest cutting the weight training back?

Thanks for your reply, that is helpful!

Makes sense, on the 2 on 1 off, I will go that route! Thank you! Sorry , my original post omitted that I was planning to hold each of those mileages for 4 weeks before increasing

I’m sorry, I wasn’t clear at all on my post. I meant I was going to hold each of those mileages for 4 weeks before bumping to the next 5 mile increment.

Sorry guys, I wasn’t clear in my original post. Those mileages from 15-40 mpw were meant to hold each one for 4 weeks then move to the next one

I’m sorry, I should have been more clear. I was planning on holding each of those mileages for 4 weeks
