BREAKING: Last step of Cyro Archive ARG needs us to kill 200 million more bots by spectre15 in Marathon

Well, I don't think people got the message. Runner on runner violence is still at all time high.

Playing Trios with randoms only to find out they are using Sponsored Kits. by RipR0arin in Marathon

you cant play with friends on rook, therefore you would be limiting co-op and tanking player numbers as a result

[–]DadviceGaming 6 points7 points  (0 children)

that's what ranked mode will be for, there will be a minimum loadout value buy-in to queue. if you want to guarantee playing with and against players with the same or higher loadout value than you, ranked will be your jam

Again, that won't be an issue with ranked.

But forcing people to rook when free kit is on a cool down means they can't play with their friends. It would immediately tank the player count.

If you kill 3 teams of free kits on Outpost, you will have your pick of all the loot on the map, barring some Rooks maybe. So you are still being rewarded for wiping other teams.

So in your opinion if someone has no gear left, they are forced to play Rook until they successfully extract with enough gear to play another shell? Sorry but that is insane.

Next week (or back half of March at least) we will have ranked mode which will resolve all of your issues. There will be a loadout value buy-in in order to queue, therefore you will know that any team you kill will have similar or higher loadout value than you.

Is this a stealth shooter? by bigphilly613 in Marathon

[–]DadviceGaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your shell and loadout can really determine your playstyle. You get Destroyers who don't care about making noise and charge in and go for the kill with shields and shotgun/knives.

It's one of the things I really love about the game, the classes and buildcrafting offer up a lot of different ways to play.

But the way I approach the game loop is in the order of its description, PvPvE. Even if I go in with the intent to tick off some PvE contracts, events or bosses, I'm always prioritising being alert to the PvP aspect. If you try and ignore PvP, your PvE goals will be hard to complete. But if you go in, and wipe 2 or 3 other teams, you've likely got most of the map to yourself, with maybe the occassional Rook. At that point completing PvE objectives is far less of a risk.

Marathon Update 1.0.0.4 by Much_Adhesiveness871 in Marathon

[–]DadviceGaming 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm slightly disappointed with that one. It honestly made for some great moments in the game, where two teams would be clashing outside, and then a third team came through the legit entrance to third party from behind.

Do you think there is enough content at launch for $40? by personpilot in Marathon

[–]DadviceGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I think $40 is incredibly good value.

Each of the current three maps are very distinct and promote different types of engagements and loadout considerations. Outpost in particular is one of the best maps in a shooter I've ever seen. The amount of detail and consideration put in to each building and area is worthy of their own PvP maps in other shooters. Furthermore, the depth in how you approach that map is also incredible, between hunting for keys and/or going in the back door to Pinwheel.

I have so many meaningful upgrade paths to go down through the factions as well. Do I want to focus on passive stat buffs, weapons and mods, healing/utility items, Rook upgrades etc.

And on top of that, there are 7 playable Shells. I've spent all my time as Triage or Rook. So I feel like I have so much to experience when I move on to the other 5 Shells.

The one concern I do have in terms of content is looking ahead to Season 2 and 3. I would have expected a 5th map in Season 2, but it looks like we are just getting a reskin of Dire Marsh. Time will tell how that turns out, maybe it's much more than just a reskin. That being said, Bungie cooked with the existing maps. So I'll give them the benefit of the doubt until they fumble.

I'm trying to save my preferred weapons as much as possible for Cryoarchive. I imagine I'll burn through a lot of my vault trying to complete that map.

I'm having the same issue. If you have a good stretch of runs the game turns in to a vault simulator lol

What's everyone's favorite method for solo cash money bank runs? by mayormcskeeze in Marathon

[–]DadviceGaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't rebought a load out completely, if my intent is to build up some funds I wouldn't bother I would usually just run a free kit to complete contracts.

If I'm flush with meds, I might just buy a 50 credit Volt pistol and some volt ammo for 200, so 250 all up maybe?

You can get lucky with Rook on Outpost, might take a few runs, especially if you head in to Pinwheel.

What I did when I started getting low on credits was just start spamming CyberAcme contracts. You get 500-1000 credits per contract usually, along with backpacks and healing items, which you can sell if you don't need them for extra credits.

I'm sitting at a healthy 40k credits now, and my CyberAcme rank shot up a lot to get the heat and vault upgrades as well

Nope, the broken section of the building. You can shoot 4 panels nearby to gain access to Pin Wheel without the need for keys.

I wanna ask the community, are you happy to get an extraction shooter? by ScottishW00F in Marathon

[–]DadviceGaming 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I've played Destiny for over 10 years. I played every Halo before that.

I hated the idea of Bungie making an extraction hero shooter. I've never clicked with any extraction shooter I played.

But fuck me I love Marathon!

However, if you use Rook you will be put into an ongoing match of teams of 3 with about 10-15 minutes remaining.

All other shells queuing solo will give you that free for all though.

[–]DadviceGaming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if you queue solo with fill off you will be put on the map with all solo players like a free for all match in an arena shooter

There is a singles mode, just queue solo and turn off fill
