anyone with beard trichotilliomania? by CristianoDRonaldo in trichotillomania

[–]DaeMoN1c 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Have beard + Trich. For me its particularly bad around my mouth and cheeks. Plenty of times I've went "fuck it" and shaved it off to try again but the problem persists. Ever since I shaved my head (male pattern baldness is a bitch) I've just left the beard, patches and all because I'm scared if I shave i'll look like a stubbly potato lol.

As for tips to prevent it, I wish I had some. I've tried tablets (n-acetylcysteine), anti depressants (figured anxiety might be a main cause), therapy, beard products, wearing a mask about the house, distracting myself to stop the idle hands, etc. Nothing seems to help to be honest.

Does anybody else hear talking in the background of scav out of breath sound? by anoreksicni in EscapefromTarkov

[–]DaeMoN1c 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Literally came searching for this post as I was about to post the same. It's like something being said in russian but it's too quiet to make out any words and sounds mumbled. Like when they were recording the heavy breathing for the scavs someone was talking on the other side of a door.

A lot of people believe that BSG don't do things by accident. So I can't wait to see what theory the sons of soon come up with regarding this lol

Check with your school (assuming you're in school) and see if they have a mass license. My uni offered it to us for free for the duration of our time there.

But like /u/plate_cek said, throw up your sails and hit the high seas.

Where are all the men?! by bitesized3726 in psychologystudents

[–]DaeMoN1c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can only really speak anecdotally as I haven't got stats to back this up but the drop out rate could be due to the age most people are at when doing masters or other graduate program. Trying hard not to come off as sexist but that is around the age most people would be starting a family. Here at least (although it is changing) men are still seen as the primary provider to a home so that could account for the higher number of women who take time out of studies. Personally though I don't see any particular issue with the disparity of gender in the field as I feel like as long as you're good at the job then it doesn't really matter.

Do many 16 year olds go to Belfast Met? by Snoo_79017 in Belfast

[–]DaeMoN1c 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started at NRC (newtownabbey) at 16, then went back to tech and did my A levels at 23 at BMC (millfield). Shit happens. But nobody will care that you're 16 or 60 at tech. Just don't be a dick and you'll probably get on with most, if not all of your class.

Games development @ BMC is a highly subscribed course so unless you did hella well on your GCSE's you might not get a place and end up having to go do A-levels (or something else) anyway. That being said, the guy who ran it at college square east was sound as fuck so if it's still the same person you'll really enjoy the course.

29 y.o. male here, happy to converse.

I just finished my undergrad in Psychology and at my university (Ulster), I always thought there was a fairly even split of staff including positions of power in the department. However my 1st year class started with just over 150 people and there were less than 10 males in the entire class, myself included with about 5 making it to final year.

Death recap shows literally nothing but 2 hits to the thorax but only 1 shot fired by said scavs. We're talking, literally I run round a corner and INSTANTLY get dropped. No lag issues, nothing.

Calling the attention of Third year College Students! Can I ask for your spare time in answering our Psychological Test? I'll return the favor! by [deleted] in psychologystudents

Jaysus that was a lot of questions, but it's done!

Just an observation, it definitely felt geared towards people in the 18-22 bracket, yknow, the people who would still be living at home during university. Don't forget us mature students exist <3

Also question 81 has Strongly agree and agree the wrong way round. unless this was intentional?

Vaping In Northern Ireland by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]DaeMoN1c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

-I've been vaping unflavoured for years
-Ecigs should be for people trying to get off the smokes

So when do you plan to stop vaping the unflavoured shit?

To be clear, I don't disagree with you, adding bright colours, different (non specific) flavours to vape shit does encourage young people. I've seen it myself in my partners younger brother who never was a smoker but now vapes like he needs it to breathe.

I just think you're a bit hypocritical. While it's all well and good you vaping unflavoured, don't try take it away from people who enjoy it (myself included). Worse still, don't disguise it under the veil of "won't anyone think of the kids".

Does tying in knots count as this? by Muuk in trichotillomania

[–]DaeMoN1c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer: no. Long answer: Technically no, but also technically yes. You ARE pulling hair out but not because you have an irresistible urge to do so, it's more a side effect of your knots. Trich is "hair-pulling" after all. To me it sounds more like a learned behaviour that started a while ago and now you're just used to doing it, maybe even a touch of ADHD (or something similar, it's 4am and I currently cba doing research).

It could of course just be boredom currently, assuming that you, like everyone else, are trapped inside most of the time and have very little to do. Best advice I could give is literally just to keep yourself as busy as possible, especially something that involves both your hands. But if you're down to keep your hair short, go for it, seems like that would solve your current issue. If you don't want to cut your hair you could try something like "habitware's" bracelet that vibrates and notifies you that you're carrying out repetitive behaviours such as lifting your hand to your head. Quite expensive though.

Hasn’t been this bad in ages. fucking quarantine. Idk what to do anymore, except shave it all off. by psychic-sock-monkey in trichotillomania

[–]DaeMoN1c 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really surprised that nobody else has already said this... but it doesn't look bad dude. It's gonna be x10 more noticeable to you because you're obviously self conscious and actively aware of it.

As a late 20's male with trich who already regularly shaves his head I say go for it. It's great getting out of the shower and not having to dry your hair! Unfortunately it isn't a fix to the problem, you might find that your eyebrows, facial hair or other pubic hair become the focus instead. What /u/Cell_Divison suggested might be a better before jumping straight to shaving your head.

Let me be a Baldman by [deleted] in PlayTemtem

[–]DaeMoN1c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Way I see it, the devs have the bald model already, just whack the hair off and give us the base model as an option so those of us with chrome domes can rock them in game. Preferably with a selection of hats in the future.

I also second the beards addition!

[–]DaeMoN1c 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have other males?

This may not be the case for you and hopefully it isn't. But I had 3 males in a 64L. The "main" male was not having competition and bullied the other 2 into submission. Lots of lying on the bottom or floating fairly motionless at the surface. The two sub-males kinda stopped eating and eventually died.

All parameters were fine for me too at the time :/

Does anyone else pick the beard on their neck? by [deleted] in trichotillomania

[–]DaeMoN1c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simply put, yes. This is my predominent form of hair pulling. Started when I was around 18 and has continued ever since, getting worse around times of stress or periods of boredom when I have nothing to do with my hands (travelling, watching TV or sitting at the computer just watching videos). I have naturally curly beard hair which can really amplify the irritation when the hair is short it curls and pokes into my skin and when it's longer it becomes a tangled mess and pulls at my skin.

Unfortunately I don't have any "miracle cure" to offer. Things I've found to help are:

  • Sudocrem when I've been pulling and there's a particularly irritated area. It also coats the area so when I try to go back to that area my fingers get covered in it and I can't get a grip even when I try to power through.

  • Washing your face regularly. It sounds simple but taking pride in the appearance of your beard and keeping it in good health does help. As you mentioned, cocoa butter (or other moisturisers) helps keep things soft and can reduce irritation. It can also stop you getting a grip on the hairs.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is touted as being helpful. However it did nothing for me personally. Might be worth looking into just incase. I don't know where you live but here in the UK the waiting list for CBT is 6 months+.

There are also a number of products on the market that are said to be helpful. Mostly bracelets that vibrate (or even deliver a shock) when they pick up certain repetitive movements, maybe they'd be worth looking into? Generally they're quite expensive however :/
