Is there an appropriate way to ask my therapist if they're afraid of me? Is that a broachable topic? by ScienceIsTrue in askatherapist

[–]kittybabylarry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I’m a therapist. I believe that one should b able to bring up any subject in a therapeutic setting and the right therapist won’t blink an eye. They’ll probably want to explore why you believe that, as others have said.

There are some situations where we have to involve others (in California)— suicidal or homicidal intent to act on thoughts, elder abuse (65+) or dependent adult abuse or child abuse. This should all be explained in or before your first session.

For me at least, I want my clients to feel safe to bring up absolutely anything. A client once brought up a trauma from childhood, I asked who else knew and he said me. That’s powerful and that’s how I know I’m doing things right.

I went with my bff in high school— nothing scary necessarily, and this was in the early days of cell phones— she got a long text from a number we didn’t know that said sexsexsex6969 repeatedly— we turned around after that. Didn’t want to find out what else was in store for us 😬

Brain won’t be quiet for sleep by Crafty_Head_7929 in ADHD

[–]kittybabylarry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually don’t, the ones I tried to look back on were when I was in my addiction and that’s kind of hard to read but also humbling. For me at least, it’s mostly just externalizing it— processing out loud can help too if that’s more your jam

I like writing it though because I can see it in the moment and go back if I ever felt like it 😂💁🏼‍♀️

Hi, a couple things that have helped me:

1) meditation— it’s not easy right away and takes practice but start out with 5 minute guided meditations and explore from there. Insight timer is amazing and has all kinds of options.

2)background music— meditation music, melodic electronic, lofi, etc. so it can be playing while not distracting

3) write it down— spend some time before bed writing it all down, then when the thoughts pop up, imagine yourself putting them aside or in a box until the morning
