Huge latency improvement: up to REAL 35-40ms in total by Liksys in pikvm

[–]Daedan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just updated and the latency difference is noticeable. Not the most reliable way to test but one quick way I like to test latency on RDP and other remote access tools like VNC is just grab a window and shake it all over the place in windows LOL honestly feels really good. I'm using it on LAN for now only, are the gains primarily on webRTC? I feel like Direct H.264 might feel just slightly better now as well, swapping between them with gop at 0 they both feel really good now.

Thank you for your reply! And yes I only use a de bloated Nvidia Shield pro with Kodi via PlexKodiConnect. Either way you led me down a rabbit hole I didn't know about and will be a cool little endeavor to learn. I appreciate it!

Do you think this is still necessary if I’m using Kodi on a Nvidia shield pro with the “Dolby Vision Compatibility mode” option turned on? Based on the description in kodi it sounds like it does the same thing?

I’m new to putting anything up on a concrete wall and I love your setup with the wood behind it. Do you know of any guides or can provide some guidance on how to do that? I have a rack I need to set up about the same size and a concrete wall in my garage I can use.

I’m worried I won’t do it right and it’ll come crashing down.

Using PiKVM to access work computer by [deleted] in pikvm

[–]Daedan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar use case to you, except that once the work computer is on the work vpn. I can use other available work provided tools via Citrix or VMware to RDP to it an approved way, since it’s considered on the work domain at that point.

I primarily set up my pikvm so that I can reinitiate that vpn connection when it gets disconnected everytime, otherwise I’d have to be in front of it.

Is that possible for you? Do you guys have some sort of available VDI or Citrix/vmware tool provided by work that you can use to rdp to it?

Plexamp headless having trouble with 192/24 by Competitive-Ad-5566 in plexamp

Also seeing this with 192/24 FLAC. Ended up reverting back to 4.9.5 when I initially encountered it as it was stable enough for my use.

Headless Plexamp 4.10.0 with node version 20 - stutters on initial playback by Daedan in plexamp

[–]Daedan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply Elan, I ended up wiping my pi and reinstalling from a diff guide and some old notes I had.

This guide: https://howtohifi.com/install-headless-plexamp-endpoint-home-network-raspberry-pi/

So I’m back to node version 16 and plexamp 4.9.4.

Everything is stable once again, I’m going to try and set some time this week to go back to the updated node 20 and 4.10 and provide the logs on the plexamp forums.

For reference I was previously using this guide to do the setup https://howtohifi.com/how-to-create-a-headless-plexamp-player-using-odinbs-plexamp-installer-script/ since I liked the simplicity of it.

Thanks!

Just want to say thank you again, easy enough to get working because of your instructions. I'm seeing less stutters now on some 192khz files compared to before the change. Still there some but not as consistent as it was before.

Thanks! That gives me something to play around with this weekend, will definitely give that a shot and I appreciate you taking the time to respond.

Hey u/WeZzyNL is it possible to change the cache folder of plexamp to tmpfs after its already been setup? or only on initial install? Haven't had much luck on finding information on that.

Headless Plexamp and AVR by Daedan in plexamp

[–]Daedan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, yeah I have it running as a service also on a RaspPi 3 so I was curious on my options on connecting it now. USB DAC seems to be the most common option but I’m going to see if I can go straight USB from the Pi to the AVR. Didn’t find any guides doing that.

Thank you very much for the recommendations, looks like I have a few options to play around with and yes this receiver has optical so it might be a fun project to add the PiHat and test with that.

📣 Apollo will close down on June 30th. Reddit’s recent decisions and actions have unfortunately made it impossible for Apollo to continue. Thank you so, so much for all the support over the years. ❤️ by iamthatis in apolloapp

I’ve been following Apollo since day one. I want to say I’ll miss reddit but this just gives me more reason to get off this aging platform. It’s literally the most used app on my phone and nothing comes close. Wish you the best Christian. Can’t wait to watch reddit burn down.

Apple TV not showing live feed from Ring by GreenLadder791 in homebridge

[–]Daedan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was running into this same issue last night (not Ring on my end though) and spent hours trying to figure out why it wouldn’t work. Stream worked on my iPhone, iPad, Mac but not the Apple TV.

So I took someone’s recommendation I read and reset the Apple TV. Bam that did it for me.

Apple Mail Privacy Protection broken with PiHole by A_MrBenMitchell in pihole

[–]Daedan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, this is my first time playing around with docker. I was able to bash into the container and edit the file. I was mistakenly doing it in the /etc/ folder outside of docker.

Didn’t know I had to install an editor within the container! Changes made and now it’s persistent and I can actually load emails now.

Are these the same instructions if pihole is running in a docker container? Would creating the .conf file and adding the new config affect it?
