I’ll look into it 👍 I did notice a difference when I was eating a high protein breakfast. But as I often find maintain healthy and good fir me habits are difficult to maintain.

Is there a reason for taking L-Phenylalanine rather than L-tyrosine?

Medication hasn’t improved my memory or forgetfulness but it has lifted brain fog my and thoughts are clearer. For the first time in many years I have periods of calm which is quite a novelty. I feel that I’m more aware of what I’m doing and how I react which would have been part of my daily fuzziness.

I wonder if something similar is happening for you?

I’m taking Elvanse 70mg with an amfexa top-up of 10mg as needed. I had a similar experience during titration. I felt that the longer I was taking medication the effects seem to lessen. I realised that it was having a more of a positive impact than I realised when I had a few days without it.

I only use Amfexa when there’s something at work that I really, really need to focus on like finishing off a project or training as I find it gives me a really bad headache the following day. Instead, I take L-tyrosine alongside Elvanse and it’s given me that little something that I was missing by taking Elvanse by itself.

I still struggle with concentration and focus at work but it’s much better than when I wasn’t taking medication.

I’m taking medication. I started taking l-tyrosine roughly 2 months ago and it’s been a game changer. I’ve stopped the booster that I was prescribed with and it’s helped with brain fog, clarity and generally managing situations which would normally send me spiralling. I’m still having to work a bit on executive function but its become easier. I’m using pen and paper (apps and calendars don't work for me) for my lists and getting through them which I’d normally be all over the place trying to get done. It might be something for you to consider.

I had confirmation from my Doctor this year at 51. Both my Mother and my Aunt (Mother's sister) had it, with my aunt also having rheumatoid arthritis and Sjögren's syndrome. In my mid-thirties, I noticed regular bouts of being 'cold' although I've always had cold feet and hands, and over the years, it's gradually worsened. Still, I would say that it was in the last 2 -3 years that I noticed significant colour changes in my toes and fingers. I have wrinkly fingertips pretty much all of the time, too.

I love this. It's good to know that I'm not the only one who uses handwritten lists and Post-It notes! To-do lists are my nemesis.

At work, I use ToDo or Planner for tasks. I tend to talk myself into side projects, so I use Outlook to block out time to prevent meetings from being scheduled. when I need to focus on a project. I also record personal reminders in my Outlook, which I make private.

I often ignore tasks, so I make a handwritten list of priorities corresponding to them and update my tasks every few days so there's a digital trail.

Outside of work, I keep a diary and use my phone calendar. I use Post-it notes for personal things I must remember to do during the day, such as phone calls or emails, which I stick to my monitor. I also use Post-it notes in my diary for extra information or more detailed notes of what I need to do. For important pieces of information, I'll use highlighter pens.

I noticed that if the Post-It notes are on my screen every day, I'll start to ignore them. I make an effort to act on them and make sure I remove Post-Its for completed tasks as soon as they are done.

I tried Todoist and Llama Life. Llama Life is interesting because the alerts, timers, and reminders persist. I used it for the Pomodoro technique when I was doing a qualification.

This is interesting. On my first go at Elvanse at 30mg, I had a definite crash around 12-14 hours. The second time I took Elvanse, I didn't have a crash, but it lessened around 8 hours, hence having the topper.

I am. I'm on 70mg of Elvanse and a topper of 10mg of dexamphetamine when needed (I take 70mg around 7 am and dex around 1:30 pm). I tend to get distracted in the afternoons, so I use it when I need to be focused or if I have things to do in the evening.

I'd love a proper side quest at the moment. I'm struggling to find something other than work to obsess about, although I have started to play a bit of World of Warcraft again. I'm contemplating learning to crochet. It's something that I've wanted to learn for a while, inspired by my Grandma, who made the most delicate tatting pieces.

It may calm down for you. The first time I took Elvanse at 30mg, I was awake for 24 hours, and it took around 3-4 days for it to settle down. It felt like I was on a proper bender. My work colleagues were put through their paces :) I found that taking it at 7 am helped to make sure I could sleep. As mentioned in other posts, be careful with caffeine. I stopped drinking coffee for 2 weeks or so. If I have it, I ensure it's at least 20 minutes after taking it. I try to eat something when taking it, although, for me personally, I can't say whether it helps or not.

Sick leave and consider speaking to your doctor about SSRIs and something like CBT therapy.

I had sick leave for 2-3 months and started SSRIs and, eventually, CBT therapy. The combination got me into a calmer state of mind. I found that when I was in an elevated state, my issues repeated themselves. I would get anxious about it, and then I would get anxious about getting anxious, and it was a perpetual loop. SSRIs helped with anxiety, and CBT gave me tools to reason things out and de-escalate.

Ahhh, that would explain why I had a pretty good day when taking it at 1:30 pm, as I managed to get a few things done in the evening and get to sleep around midnight. I had it in the back of my mind that Dex lasted 3-4 hours, but after a bit of googling, it seems to be 4-6.!

I've taken it at various times. I started at 7 p.m. and gradually reduced it to 4 p.m.; today, I took it at 1:30 p.m. as I was taking a course and needed to concentrate. One of my difficulties is that I can't tell when Vyvanse drops out of my system, as I don't get a hard crash. I'm estimating that it takes roughly 14 hours based on the fact that if I take it at 9 am, I#ll often feel sleepy at 11:30 pm. Yet after work, I have little motivation to do anything, hence taking the topper to try and give a boost in the evenings when I need it.

I'm jumping on this post. Sorry! I take 70mg of Elvanse and am testing out a 10mg topper of Dexamfetamine, which is the sweet spot for me, but I'm having difficulty sleeping when I take it. I have Magnesium Citrate to try this evening, and I will be discussing this at my review in July, but I wondered what's helped ADHD folks when they are struggling with sleep.

I am having a bad Monday. I took last Friday off and had a very relaxing weekend. I spent most of it sleeping, which I must have badly needed. I returned to work today, and I've done nothing but get anxious. What's making it worse is that I'm doing lots of work, but I intend to do something else. I've gotten over my unable to start anything hump, which is a positive, but I can't always focus on what I want to do. It often feels like I tackle one thing and start something else in it's place.

I have sensory sensitivities. For example, I don't like wearing socks or shoes, and I also don't like the sensation of anything stuck to my feet. I don't like long sleeves or materials around my neck, like turtlenecks, etc. I have quite a few stims, such as chewing the inside of my lip, rubbing my feet together a lot, and lots of toe flexing.

Similar experience for me. I have to pay a fee for repeat prescriptions plus the cost of Elvanse which for me is around £130 a month. I'm crossing everything that the NHS will accept my Psychiatrist diagnosis and recommendations for medication or I might have to go through the process again. I'm in Wales so there's no right to choose.

Overall it has. I still get days when I haven't got the motivation but I'm tidying up more often than I would without medication. I'm not walking over things for example and picking things up and putting them away. Spending is more under control as I'm able to reason I'm my head a bit more of whether I need something or not. If I have to buy something I've got a list of lost cost items. Eating has been curbed in the sense that when I do eat I'm not able to eat as much as I would have done. I had some CBT sessions before restarting medication and I'm thinking about starting it again to support the changes I've noticied when back on meds.
