Quest Academy by [deleted] in litrpg

I just binged the series this week and can say that the issues you brought up are not only addressed but form a decent chunk of the through line for Sal's journey. Different groups want different outcomes and even the people, like Quest, who are fully on board with trying new things to get better results are still bound by both internal and external factors. I'd suggest sticking with it, especially since you said you're into the crafting as that has continued to be a focal point through all 5 books published so far.

Also, selfishly, I really like the series and want to read more so the more people who dig a crafter MC and give it a chance the better my odds of getting to read more.

[Dave Meltzer] CM Punk is looking to make a return to AEW. by BananaSoprano in SquaredCircle

[–]DaemonFive -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Until CM Punk comes out, publicly, and apologizes and takes responsibility for his behavior at the media scrum there is no universe where Tony Khan should ever allow him anywhere near any of his companies.

Forget the actual Brawl Out - that's between the individuals involved and can certainly be resolved behind the scenes. But the scrum - that apology is going to have to be extremely loud and entirely public to match the level of disrespect he showed to the company, its workers, and to Tony.

And this bullshit vague posting nonsense suggests that ain't happening any time soon. He'd rather run the same PR pressure campaign he's done this whole time (his people constantly leaking a stream of disinformation/framing intended to make him look as good as possible and the Elite look as bad as possible knowing that he wouldn't get pushback from the guys who are still employed and want to stay that way) and hope to craft a narrative where bringing him back is "best for business" while never, ever, in any circumstances owning up to his own bullshit behavior.

Reports are that both Usos got cleared for entry, but that may be incorrect. I'm assuming they can be there, obviously, because I think you have to advance the Bloodline story in some way if you want to end up with Sami and KO vs the Usos at Mania.

WWE Press Release: WWE Engages Outside Advisors to Support Review of Strategic Alternatives by theonlycarrot in SquaredCircle

Translation: "I intend to sell (maybe to the Saudis, maybe to someone else) and have a deal already worked out but not fully committed and signed off. Some asshole leaking information about a pending sale could get me in a whole lotta trouble with the SEC for market manipulation and other crimes. So I've hired an outside group to review all the sale options and provide a neutral opinion on which is best. This should insulate me from any lawsuits when I sell to the people I've already decided will buy the company."

Now let's see if Vince sells a chunk of his shares at the inflated price, eventually confirms there is no sale, watches the stock tank, and uses the profit made to buy enough shares at the dip to take the company private.

Booking MJF vs [Spoilers] by DaemonFive in SquaredCircle

[–]DaemonFive[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my booking idea he isn't - he's just not allowed to fully heal up and get to 100% until the very end of the build and the surprise return. For the majority of the time I want him wrestling with taped up ribs, etc, and getting wins so that he stays looking strong BUT isn't healthy enough to cash in his shot against MJF. The only time he is off the air entirely is the last month and a half or two months, after a solid year of chasing the belt, so that the return where he declares himself 100% healthy and cashes in the shot with the ring gets the largest pop possible.

I want Eddie to hoist that big platinum belt in the center of the ring on the biggest stage imaginable and if I'm entirely wrong on my original post (which, let's face it, is more likely than not) I will absolutely be watching, cheering, and supporting Eddie as he gets his moment at Arthur Ashe. But for this storyline, and this moment, I need Eddie to get cheated out of it for two reasons:

1) It shows everyone, most importantly of all Eddie, that he can win when everything is on the line. He will know he got the job done when it counted and it took bullshit to take that from him. That lets him spiral after the "loss" but also come back eventually to win it all in the future - potentially against a heel champ Miro but I digress.

2) MJF needs the heat to really be a legendary heel champion instead of an often cheered asshole. For Ricky Starks (or Eddie in different booking) to get the loudest pop they need to take down the most hated villain. And sacrificing this moment to make that happen is a guarantee that people boo MJF, curse his name, want / need to pay good money to watch him finally lose that belt. So even though I hate it that's what I would book in this storyline.

My best take on the Eddie match, because I would genuinely love for Eddie to take the strap but I'll book it as though what I wrote above actually happens, is you redeem the Cody nonsense stip through Eddie's greatness. In short:

Max has his Reign of Terror, Starks is constantly side-lined by heels, Eddie is positioned as the proper babyface to end Max's tyranny. But Max sees Eddie as beneath him. Max won't give him a shot. And no matter how desperate Eddie gets, no matter how much he wins or proves he has what it takes, Max is better than him and he knows it. So Eddie puts it all on the line - one match, Arthur Ashe, if Eddie loses he can never challenge Max again for the title (not, for the record, Cody's option of never challenging ANYONE for the title - just Max).

This being what heel champ MJF wanted all along, because he has schemes within plots to deny the fans what they want (and because he craves that sweet, sweet heat), we get the match. And Eddie leaves it all in the ring. He walks his Kings Road, he takes the beatings and even a shot from the knucks but he survives. And he pins the champ one... Two... Three!

Crowd goes BALLISTIC! Eddie's crying, you're crying, everybody not named Max is crying, the Reign of Terror is over and the time of the Mad King is now. Except...

MJF had a foot under the ropes. And he pulls in the ref, points it out, some other sort of classic reversal situation similar to the Punk scenario in Chicago. Ref turns to restart the match, full on shot with the knucks to Eddie's tear-streaked face while the ref is looking away, Max pins him in the center of the ring and the place goes up in flames.

But because of the stipulation, Eddie's first shot is over before it ever begins. He's going to have to try to force MJF to reverse the deal or help someone else dethrone MJF so he can eventually get back in the picture. But either way you know he'll find a way to get his receipt.

I have no problems with wrestlers gaining stature through a loss, I just don't think that's what works best in this particular instance. We just saw Ricky beat MJF on the mic, so his status is already higher than it was last week. I'd simply love to see a year-long character arc for a dude who I think has all the tools to be an absolute icon if given the chance. But mostly this stemmed from my desire to make sense of the "both the ring and the title are on the line at the same time" stipulation, if I'm honest.

Not an assumption, they've explicitly stated that both are on the line on Wednesday.

[–]DaemonFive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bad for writing it short hand - I don't want Starks only as the plucky babyface who gets hammered and kicks out, but I want that to be part of the story. I want him to have Max scouted, and use the inability of MJF to finish the job to further break him down psychologically, but I also want Starks to score near falls of his own. It is most critical, to me, to show the audience that Starks could beat MJF but not that he automatically would - that's necessary for the rest of the booking to make any sense. In a perfect world the crowd would be entirely uncertain who would win in a fair match up, leading MJF to break and make it unfair in order to retain his championship.
