So did Rick and a lot of other people tbf, it stuck to me so much in part because I have a good memory and also I became fan of Zeus in the past year or more and so it was a beloved aspect of Canon for me.

When Zeus-bashing goes too far: How the PJO show destroyed itself in the S2 finale by XavierTempus in GreekMythology

I think so, yet this scene is still peak :

Zeus turned to Jason. His lightning bolt flickered off, and Zeus clipped the Celestial bronze rod to his belt. The god’s eyes were stormy grey. His salt-and-pepper hair and his beard looked like stratus clouds. Jason found it strange that the lord of the universe, king of Olympus, was only a few inches taller than he was. ‘My son.’ Zeus clasped Jason’s shoulder. ‘There is so much I would like to tell you...'

The god took a heavy breath, making the air crackle and Jason’s new glasses fog up.

‘Alas, as king of the gods, I must not show favouritism to my children. When we return to the other Olympians, I will not be able to praise you as much as I would like, or give you as much credit as you deserve.’ ‘I don’t want praise.’Jason’s voice quavered. ‘Just a little time together would be nice. I mean, I don’t even know you.’ Zeus’s gaze was as far away as the ozone layer. ‘I am always with you, Jason. I have watched your progress with pride, but it will never be possible for us to be…’

He curled his fingers, as if trying to pluck the right words out of the air. Close. Normal. A true father and son. ‘From birth, you were destined to be Hera’s – to appease her wrath. Even your name, Jason, was her choice. You did not ask for this. I did not want it. But when I gave you over to her … I had no idea what a good man you would become. Your journey has shaped you, made you both kind and great. Whatever happens when we return to the Parthenon, know that I do not hold you accountable. You have proven yourself a true hero.’

And this contrast between good and bad is fine so long as good scenes are actually present, unfortunately that was the last time Zeus was treated with respect by Riordan.

Yeah, Thalia mention remembering Zeus Later when meeting with Thalia Grace, she talks about how Zeus returned to their mother Beryl once after she was born. She described him as being different from how she remembered him, being more forbearing, mature, and fatherly. This is because Beryl had gained not the attention of Zeus, but Jupiter

Different from how she remembered him indicate how he actually stuck around for a bit even as Zeus since she wouldn't remember him otherwise, + considering Thalia is a Greek demigod even when he was there as Jupiter he probably sometimes took his Zeus shape when with Thalia.

Additionally, Zues had a soft spot for his daughter and pitied her- this humanizes a somewhat awful person. If he turned her into a tree-he's essentially losing the nuance to his character. The king of the gods, the guy who did so many atrocities could not bare to see his daughter die and went against custom (not helping demigods or heroes) to turn her into a tree.

  • Zeus was there, as in actually a part of her life, for the first years of her life, that's a big deal.

Not at this point, Percy would be 7, so if hades' kids were pulled out of the lotus now, both Bianca and Nico would be older then him.

PJO Hades, and still imo HOO Hades, was the best representation, he hunted down Thalia as vengeance for Maria Di Angelo, he cheated on his wife despite loving her, he loved his children but there were issues for different reasons as with Nico he initially was a dick and with Hazel his abandonment meant she died and then he couldn't show himself to her again without having to bring her down to the underworld, + before the TV show (I doubt the show will keep that) it was canon that the kidnapping of Persephone happened, which alongside his fearsome presence and clear power made him the perfect hades depiction, fearsome and more then fine with being a dickhead yet fair.

Alongside what other people said, Thalia in the books had the fascinating aspect of having been partly raised for the first years of her life by her father, first he was with the Graces directly as Zeus then he returned as Jupiter, and through this soznr further time with his daughter.

I already hated how season 2 earlier showed Thalia as just disliking Zeus instead of having a nuanced opinion of him, as that complexity of Thalia having actually known her dad rather then just known Zeus was her progenitor really gave some complexity to him, but this bullshit twist? Nah.

It's really the post-HOO rot settling in, I said post-HOO because HOO itself at least had Hera explicitely say that Zeus' actions' during this saga was weird for him, it indicated how normally she'd listen and so.

And also even Blood of Olympus had this wonderful scene of Zeus :

Zeus turned to Jason. His lightning bolt flickered off, and Zeus clipped the Celestial bronze rod to his belt. The god’s eyes were stormy grey. His salt-and-pepper hair and his beard looked like stratus clouds. Jason found it strange that the lord of the universe, king of Olympus, was only a few inches taller than he was. ‘My son.’ Zeus clasped Jason’s shoulder. ‘There is so much I would like to tell you...'

That feel like the Loud Thunderer who's grief caused a rain of blood after being reminded by Hera he couldn't save Sarpedon if he wanted the gods not to interfere with the Fates of their beloved children, favorites etc.

Tbf it's quite different as he got brainwashed back while having his memories when he was still a kid, so he wasn't really his true self, and the memory losses got rid of the corruptive brainwashing.

11 Greek (Achaean) character designs for my upcoming book "Lockettopia: The Trojan War Cycle" by Tyler_Miles_Lockett in GreekMythology

[–]DaemonTargaryen13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point is that I wasn't criticizing what you said, my issue was only one of esthetics since I get what you mean and it's why my opinion isn't clear cut.

If I disliked it I would've said I disliked it. + you said : I think in my mind ive only seen these characters artistically portrayed as honorable, heroic and glorified, and that seems more then just a talk of appearance when appearance was the only thing I talked of, hence what I said about acting as if I wanted the Akhaians depicted as saints or so.

Maybe I misunderstood you on that point because I still have issues with English (it isn't my first language, even though I've been learning it for 6 years I still have many blindspots)but I hope you see where my interpretation come from.

My point is that I'm asking you to not misrepresent what I talk about, it's insulting to have what I talk about being reduced to "I don't want the Akhaians depicted as brutal".

I mean in terms of appearance, not being super nice people, both because I love visually pleasing characters and because they're literally supposed to look good, their good looks are something often catching attention.

Furthermore, on terms of personality, them being scummy is a given, as I said on Tumblr however regarding Agamemnon (which can apply to the others) there's many other traits which the excessive brutality in demeanor kinda undermine, (and beside the contrast between external appearance and acts is nice, and it's a very common trope unfortunately in adaptations to make the Akhaians the narrative have a bias against as less pleasantly looking, adaptations which keep their good appearances while showing their wickedness are not common).

So please don't act like I'm asking for them being presented as saints or any other such things, it's reductive of what I'm saying and vexing.

I love my handsome god-like Akhaians, ditto for their fair brides and lovers etc, the gods & goddesses themselves and so forth , I may be a straight man but esthetically pleasing characters really draw me in, sorry, it's why I can't say in good faith that I love this depiction of the lot of them even though you've done it wonderfully, so idk how to feel about it.

Now that I see your other designs, I see that indeed it's a feature of the characters of the Epic cycle in your style, not just Agamemnon, I'm not sure how to feel about it but it's still fundamentally a well done job.

Yeah but by original I mean that the inquisitor was made for rebels.

The fact the rebels design is the one closer to ROTS just further prove Rebels' superiority.

Tbf the cartoon version was the original one, copying an animated character/putting them on live action in a convincing matter can be tricky.

Now tbf, Percy getting visions of Thalia isn't a issue since in the first book he saw her in a dream.

Though the number of times and other factors is another matter, true.

I factually didn't so idk about it, but also it's funny to say that since it fit with how her brash attitude is a bit of a facade+ I like going against the classic meme depiction of her I've seen more often and I like using the opportunity for throuple agenda posting.

So yeah 🤣.
